Sirach 18

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 He who lives for ever has created the sum of things.	1 Colui che vive in eterno creò tutte insieme le cose. Dio solo sarà riconosciuto giusto: Egli è re invincibile in eterno.
2 The Lord alone wil be found just.	2 Chi potrà descrivere le opere di lui?
3	3 Chi potrà investigare le sue maraviglie?
4 He has given no one the power to proclaim his works to the end, and who can fathom his magnificentdeeds?	4 La potenza della sua grandezza chi la potrà spiegare? Chi potrà giungere a raccontare le sue misericordie?
5 Who can assess his magnificent strength, and who can go further and tel al of his mercies?	5 Ne togliere nè aggiungere si può alle maraviglie di Dio, nè arrivare a scoprirle.
6 Nothing can be added to them, nothing subtracted, it is impossible to fathom the marvels of the Lord.	6 Quando l'uomo avrà finito, sarà sempre da principio, e quando si fermerà, resterà stordito.
7 When someone finishes he is only beginning, and when he stops he is as puzzled as ever.	7 Che cos'è l'uomo e a che può servire? A che si riduce il suo bene e il suo male?
8 What is a human being, what purpose does he serve? What is good and what is bad for him?	8 Il numero dei giorni dell'uomo è molto se arriva a cento anni. Come una goccia d'acqua nell'oceano, come un granello d'arena, cosi quei pochi anni da vanti al giorno dell'eternità.
9 The length of his life: a hundred years at most.	9 Per questo il Signore è paziente cogli uomini, ed effonde sopra di loro la sua misericordia.
10 Like a drop of water from the sea, or a grain of sand, such are these few years compared with eternity.	10 Egli vede bene che malvagia è la presunzione del loro cuore, che deplorevole è la loro perdizione.
11 This is why the Lord is patient with them and pours out his mercy on them.	11 Per questo con essi fa giungere al colmo la sua misericordia, e mostra loro la via dell'equità.
12 He sees and recognises how wretched their end is, and so he makes his forgiveness the greater.	12 La pietà dell'uomo è verso il suo prossimo, ma la misericordia di Dio si estende ad ogni vivente.
13 Human compassion extends to neighbours, but the Lord's compassion extends to everyone; rebuking,correcting and teaching, bringing them back as a shepherd brings his flock.	13 Essendo Egli misericordioso, ammaestra e corregge (gli uomini) come un pastore il proprio gregge.
14 He has compassion on those who accept correction, and who fervently search for his judgements.	14 Egli ha pietà di chi riceve l'ammonimento della misericordia, e di chi è sollecito nei suoi precetti.
15 My child, do not temper your favours with blame nor any of your gifts with words that hurt.	15 Figliolo, non aggiungere ai benefìzi i rimproveri, e al dono non aggiungere l'amarezza di cattive parole.
16 Does not dew relieve the heat? In the same way a word is worth more than a gift.	16 La rugiada non tempera forse il caldo? Così la buona parola val più del dono.
17 Why surely, a word is better than a good present, but a generous person is ready with both.	17 Non lo vedi che la parola vai più del dono? Ma il giusto ha l'uno e l'altra.
18 A fool wil offer nothing but insult, and a grudging gift makes the eyes smart.	18 Lo stolto farà degli sgarbati rimproveri, e il dono dell'indiscreto fa strugger gli occhi.
19 Learn before you speak, take care of yourself before you fal ill.	19 Prima del giudizio assicurati della tua giustizia e prima di parlare impara.
20 Examine yourself before judgement comes, and on the day of visitation you will be acquitted.	20 Avanti la malattia prendi il rimedio, e prima del giudizio esamina te stesso, e troverai misericordia dinanzi a Dio.
21 Humble yourself before you fall il , repent as soon as the sin is committed.	21 Prima di cader malato, umiliati, e nel tempo dell'infermità fa vedere la tua (buona) condotta.
22 Let nothing prevent your discharging a vow in good time, and do not wait till death to set matters right.	22 Nessuna cosa t'impedisca di sempre pregare, non ti peritare di conservarti giusto fino alla morte, perchè la ricompensa di Dio è eterna.
23 Prepare yourself before making a vow, and do not be like someone who tempts the Lord.	23 Avanti l'orazione prepara l'anima tua, e non voler essere come uno che tenta Dio.
24 Bear in mind the retribution of the last days, the time of vengeance when God averts his face.	24 Pensa all'ira del giorno finale e al tempo della retribuzione, quando Dio volgerà altrove la faccia.
25 In a time of plenty remember times of famine, think of poverty and want when you are rich.	25 Ricordati della povertà nel tempo dell'abbondanza e delle strettezze della miseria nel tempo di ricchezza.
26 The time slips by between dawn and dusk, everything passes quickly for the Lord.	26 Dalla mattina alla sera si cambierà il tempo, e dmanzi a Dio tutto passa veloce.
27 The wise wil be cautious in everything, in sinful times wil take care not to offend.	27 L'uomo saggio va cauto in ogni cosa, e nei giorni del peccato si guarderà dalla negligenza.
28 Every person of sense recognises wisdom, and wil respect anyone who has found her.	28 Ogni accorto riconosce la sapienza e renderà onori a chi l'ha trovata.
29 Those who understand sayings have toiled for their wisdom and have poured out accurate maxims.	29 Gli uomini di buon senso nelle parole operan pure con saggezza; avendo compresa la verità e la giustizia, fan piovere proverbi e sentenze.
30 Do not be governed by your passions, restrain your desires.	30 Non andar dietro alle tue voglie, e raffrena i tuoi appetiti.
31 If you al ow yourself to satisfy your desires, this wil make you the laughing-stock of your enemies.	31 Se accordi alla tua anima ciò che desidera, essa ti renderà la gioia dei tuoi nemici.
32 Do not indulge in luxurious living, do not get involved in such society.	32 Non aver piacere dei tumulti, anche piccoli, perchè in essi i conflitti son continui.
33 Do not beggar yourself by banqueting on credit when there is nothing in your pocket.	33 Guardati dall'impoverire prendendo ad usura per la gara (dei banchetti) quando la tua borsa è vuota, perchè por teresti invidia alla tua vita.
