Sirach 10

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 A sagacious ruler educates his people, and he makes his subjects understand order.	1 Un gobernante sabio educa a su pueblo y la autoridad del hombre inteligente se ejerce con orden.
2 As the magistrate is, so will his officials be, as the governor is, so wil be the inhabitants of his city.	2 Como el gobernante de un pueblo, así son sus ministros, y como el jefe de la ciudad, así son sus habitantes.
3 An undisciplined king wil be the ruin of his people, a city owes its prosperity to the intel igence of itsleading men.	3 Un rey ignorante es la ruina de su pueblo y una ciudad prospera por la inteligencia de los príncipes.
4 The government of the earth is in the hands of the Lord, he sets the right leader over it at the right time.	4 En manos del Señor está el dominio de la tierra y, en el momento preciso, le envía el hombre que conviene.
5 Human success is in the hands of the Lord. He invests the scribe with honour.	5 En manos del Señor está el éxito de un hombre y él infundirá su gloria a la persona del legislador.
6 Do not resent your neighbour's every offence, and never act in a fit of passion.	6 No guardes rencor a tu prójimo por ninguna injuria ni hagas nada en un arrebato de violencia.
7 Pride is hateful to God and humanity, and injustice is abhorrent to both.	7 La soberbia es odiosa al Señor y a los hombres y la injusticia es ofensiva para ambos.
8 Sovereignty passes from nation to nation because of injustice, arrogance and money.	8 La realeza pasa de una nación a otra, a causa de la injusticia, la prepotencia y la codicia.
9 What has dust and ashes to pride itself on? Even in life its entrails are repel ent.	9 ¿De qué se ensoberbece el que es polvo y ceniza, si aún en vida sus entrañas están llenas de podredumbre?
10 A long illness makes a fool of the doctor; a king today is a corpse tomorrow.	10 Una larga enfermedad desconcierta al médico, y el que hoy es rey, mañana morirá.
11 For in death the portion of al alike wil be insects, wild animals and worms.	11 Cuando un hombre muere, recibe como herencia larvas, fieras y gusanos.
12 The first stage of pride is to desert the Lord and to turn one's heart away from one's Maker.	12 El orgullo comienza cuando el hombre se aparta del Señor y su corazón se aleja de aquel que lo creó.
13 Since the first stage of pride is sin, whoever clings to it will pour forth filth. This is why the Lord inflictsunexpected punishments on such people, utterly destroying them.	13 Porque el comienzo del orgullo es el pecado y el que persiste en él, hace llover la abominación: por eso el Señor envió calamidades imprevistas y arrasó a los soberbios hasta aniquilarlos.
14 The Lord has turned mighty princes off their thrones and seated the humble there instead.	14 El Señor derribó los tronos de los poderosos y entronizó a los mansos en lugar de ellos.
15 The Lord has plucked up the proud by the roots, and planted the lowly in their place.	15 El Señor arrancó de raíz a las naciones y plantó a los humildes en lugar de ellos.
16 The Lord has overthrown the lands of the nations and destroyed them to the very foundations of theearth.	16 El Señor arrasó los territorios de las naciones y las destruyó hasta los cimientos de la tierra.
17 Sometimes he has taken them away and destroyed them, and blotted out their memory from the earth.	17 A Algunos las arrasó y las hizo desaparecer, y borró hasta su recuerdo de la tierra.
18 Pride was not created for human beings, nor furious rage for those born of woman.	18 El orgullo no fue creado para el hombre ni el arrebato de la ira para los nacidos de mujer.
19 What race deserves honour? The human race. What race deserves honour? Those who fear the Lord.What race deserves contempt? The human race. What race deserves contempt? Those who break the Law.	19 ¿Qué raza es digna de honor? La raza humana. ¿Qué raza es digna de honor? Los que temen al Señor. ¿Qué raza es despreciable? La raza humana. ¿Qué raza es despreciable? Los que no cumplen la Ley.
20 A leader is honoured by his brothers, and those who fear the Lord are honoured by him.	20 Entre los hermanos se honra al que es su jefe, pero el Señor honra a los que lo temen.
21	21 [El comienzo de la aceptación es el temor del Señor, y el comienzo del rechazo es el endurecimiento y el orgullo.]
22 The rich, the noble, the poor, let them pride themselves on fearing the Lord.	22 Para el rico, el ilustre o el pobre la única gloria es el temor del Señor.
23 It is not right to despise one who is poor but intel igent, and it is not good to honour one who is asinner.	23 No es justo despreciar a un pobre inteligente ni está bien glorificar a un hombre pecador.
24 Magnate, magistrate, potentate, all are to be honoured, but none is greater than the one who fears theLord.	24 El grande, el magistrado y el poderoso son dignos de honra, pero el que teme al Señor es superior a todos ellos.
25 A wise slave wil have free men waiting on him, and the enlightened wil not complain.	25 Hombres libres servirán a un esclavo sabio y el hombre que entiende no lo tomará a mal.
26 Do not try to be smart when you do your work, do not put on airs when you are in difficulties.	26 No te hagas el sabio cuando realizas tu tarea ni te gloríes en el momento de la penuria.
27 Better the hardworking who has plenty of everything, than the pretentious at a loss for a meal.	27 Mas vale el que trabaja y vive en la abundancia que el que anda gloriándose y no tiene qué comer.
28 My child, be modest in your self-esteem, and value yourself at your proper worth.	28 Hijo mío, gloríate con la debida modestia y estímate según tu justo valor.
29 Who can justify one who inflicts injuries on himself, or respect one who is ful of self-contempt?	29 ¿Quién justificará al que se daña a sí mismo y quién glorificará al que se desprecia?
30 The poor is honoured for wit, and the rich for wealth.	30 Al pobre se lo honra por su saber y al rico por sus riquezas.
31 Honoured in poverty, how much the more in wealth! Dishonoured in wealth, how much the more inpoverty!	31 El que es glorificado en la pobreza, ¡cuánto más lo será en la riqueza! El que es menospreciado en la riqueza, ¡cuánto más lo será en la pobreza!
