NEW JERUSALEM	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 Then again, I contemplate al the oppression that is committed under the sun. Take for instance thetears of the oppressed. No one to comfort them! The power their oppressors wield. No one to comfort them!	1 Pus-me então a considerar todas as opressões que se exercem debaixo do sol. Eis aqui as lágrimas dos oprimidos e não há ninguém para consolá-los. Seus opressores fazem-lhes violência e não há ninguém para os consolar.
2 So, rather than the living who stil have lives to live, I congratulate the dead who have already metdeath;	2 E julguei os mortos, que estão mortos, mais felizes que os vivos que ainda estão em vida,
3 happier than both of these are those who are yet unborn and have not seen the evil things that are doneunder the sun.	3 e mais feliz que uns e outros o aborto que não chegou à existência, aquele que não viu o mal que se comete debaixo do sol.
4 I see that al effort and all achievement spring from mutual jealousy. This too is futility and chasing afterthe wind.	4 Vi que todo o trabalho, toda a habilidade numa obra, não passa de emulação de um homem diante do seu próximo. Isto é também vaidade e vento que passa.
5 The fool folds his arms and eats his own flesh away.	5 O insensato cruza as mãos e devora sua própria carne.
6 Better one hand full of repose than two hands ful of achievements to chase after the wind.	6 Mais vale uma mão cheia de tranqüilidade, que as duas mãos cheias de trabalho e de vento que passa.
7 And something else futile I observe under the sun:	7 Vi ainda outra vaidade debaixo do sol:
8 a person is quite alone -- no child, no brother; and yet there is no end to his efforts, his eyes can neverhave their fil of riches. For whom, then, do I work so hard and grudge myself pleasure? This too is futile, a sorry business.	8 eis um homem sozinho, sem alguém junto de si, nem filho, nem irmão; trabalha sem parar, e, não obstante, seus olhos não se fartam de riquezas. Para quem trabalho eu, privando-me de todo bem-estar? Eis uma vaidade e um trabalho ingrato.
9 Better two than one alone, since thus their work is real y rewarding.	9 Dois homens juntos são mais felizes que um isolado, porque obterão um bom salário de seu trabalho.
10 If one should fal , the other helps him up; but what of the person with no one to help him up when hefal s?	10 Se um vem a cair, o outro o levanta. Mas ai do homem solitário: se ele cair não há ninguém para o levantar.
11 Again: if two sleep together they keep warm, but how can anyone keep warm alone?	11 Da mesma forma, se dormem dois juntos, aquecem-se; mas um homem só, como se há de aquecer?
12 Where one alone would be overcome, two wil put up resistance; and a threefold cord is not quicklybroken.	12 Se é possível dominar o homem que está sozinho, dois podem resistir ao agressor, e um cordel triplicado não se rompe facilmente.
13 Better a youngster poor and wise than a monarch old and sil y who wil no longer take advice-	13 Mais vale um adolescente pobre, mas sábio, que um rei velho, mas insensato, que já não aceita conselhos;
14 even though stepping from prison to the throne, even though born a beggar in that kingdom.	14 porque ele sai da prisão para reinar, se bem que pobre de nascimento no seu reino.
15 I observe that al who live and move under the sun support the young newcomer who takes over.	15 Vi todos os viventes, que se acham debaixo do sol, apressarem-se junto do adolescente que o ia suceder;
16 He takes his place at the head of innumerable subjects; but his successors wil not think the morekindly of him for that. This too is futile and chasing after the wind.	16 era interminável o cortejo dessa multidão, à testa da qual ele caminhava. Contudo, a geração seguinte não se regozijará por sua causa. Tudo isso é ainda vaidade e vento que passa.
17 Watch your step when you go to the House of God: drawing near to listen is better than the offering ofa sacrifice by fools, though they do not know that they are doing wrong.
