NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Then again, I contemplate al the oppression that is committed under the sun. Take for instance thetears of the oppressed. No one to comfort them! The power their oppressors wield. No one to comfort them!	1 Yo volví mis ojos a todas las opresiones que se cometen bajo el sol: ahí están las lágrimas de los oprimidos, y no hay quien los consuele. La fuerza está del lado de los opresores, y no hay nadie que les dé su merecido.
2 So, rather than the living who stil have lives to live, I congratulate the dead who have already metdeath;	2 Entonces tuve por más felices a los muertos, porque ya están muertos, que a los vivos, porque viven todavía;
3 happier than both of these are those who are yet unborn and have not seen the evil things that are doneunder the sun.	3 y consideré más feliz aún al que todavía no ha existido, porque no ha visto las infamias que se cometen bajo el sol.
4 I see that al effort and all achievement spring from mutual jealousy. This too is futility and chasing afterthe wind.	4 Yo vi que todo el esfuerzo y toda la eficacia de una obra no son más que rivalidad de unos contra otros. También esto es vanidad y correr tras el viento.
5 The fool folds his arms and eats his own flesh away.	5 El necio se cruza de brazos y se devora a sí mismo.
6 Better one hand full of repose than two hands ful of achievements to chase after the wind.	6 Más vale un puñado con tranquilidad, que las dos manos bien llenas a costa de fatigas y de correr tras el viento.
7 And something else futile I observe under the sun:	7 Luego volví mis ojos a otra cosa vana bajo el sol:
8 a person is quite alone -- no child, no brother; and yet there is no end to his efforts, his eyes can neverhave their fil of riches. For whom, then, do I work so hard and grudge myself pleasure? This too is futile, a sorry business.	8 un hombre está completamente solo, no tiene hijo ni hermano, pero nunca pone fin a su esfuerzo ni se sacia de ambicionar riquezas. Entonces, ¿para quién me esfuerzo y me privo del bienestar? También esto es vanidad y una tarea ingrata.
9 Better two than one alone, since thus their work is real y rewarding.	9 Valen más dos juntos que uno solo, porque es mayor la recompensa del esfuerzo.
10 If one should fal , the other helps him up; but what of the person with no one to help him up when hefal s?	10 Si caen, uno levanta a su compañero; pero ¡pobre del que está solo y se cae, sin tener a nadie que lo levante!
11 Again: if two sleep together they keep warm, but how can anyone keep warm alone?	11 Además, si se acuestan juntos, sienten calor, pero uno solo ¿cómo se calentará?
12 Where one alone would be overcome, two wil put up resistance; and a threefold cord is not quicklybroken.	12 Y a uno solo se lo domina, pero los dos podrán resistir, porque la cuerda trenzada no se rompe fácilmente.
13 Better a youngster poor and wise than a monarch old and sil y who wil no longer take advice-	13 Más vale un joven pobre y sabio que un rey viejo y necio, que ya no es capaz de hacerse aconsejar.
14 even though stepping from prison to the throne, even though born a beggar in that kingdom.	14 Aunque aquel salió de la cárcel para reinar y había sido pobre en su propio reino,
15 I observe that al who live and move under the sun support the young newcomer who takes over.	15 yo vi a todos los vivientes que caminan bajo el sol ponerse de parte del joven sucesor, que se erigió en lugar del otro.
16 He takes his place at the head of innumerable subjects; but his successors wil not think the morekindly of him for that. This too is futile and chasing after the wind.	16 Era una multitud interminable la que él encabezaba. Pero los que vendrán después tampoco estarán contentos con él, porque también esto es vanidad y correr tras el viento.
17 Watch your step when you go to the House of God: drawing near to listen is better than the offering ofa sacrifice by fools, though they do not know that they are doing wrong.	17 Vigila tus pasos cuando vayas a la Casa de Dios. Acércate dispuesto a escuchar, más bien que a ofrecer el sacrificio de los insensatos, porque ellos no se dan cuenta que obran mal.
