1 Here are some more of Solomon's proverbs, transcribed at the court of Hezekiah king of Judah:	1 - Anche queste sentenze sono di Salomone che stralciaronogli uomini di Ezechia, re di Giuda.
2 To conceal a matter, this is the glory of God, to sift it thoroughly, the glory of kings.	2 È gloria di Dio occultare la parola, e gloria del re, investigare la parola.
3 The heavens for height and the earth for depth, unfathomable, as are the hearts of kings.	3 Il cielo in altezza e la terra in profonditàe il cuore dei re sono imperscrutabili.
4 From silver remove the dross and it emerges wholly purified;	4 Togli la scoria dall'argento e ne uscirà un vaso finissimo.
5 from the king's presence remove the wicked and on uprightness his throne is founded.	5 Togli l'empietà dal cospetto del re e si stabilirà sopra la giustizia e il suo trono.
6 In the presence of the king do not give yourself airs, do not take a place among the great;	6 Non far pompa di te in presenza del re e non collocarti al posto dei grandi;
7 better to be invited, 'Come up here', than be humiliated in the presence of the prince.	7 perchè è meglio ti si dica: «Sali qua», che esser umiliato davanti al principe.
8 What your eyes have witnessed do not produce too quickly at the trial, for what are you to do at theend should your neighbour confute you?	8 Ciò che hanno visto gli occhi tuoinon metterlo fuori subito nel contrasto, e non avvenga che tu non possa più rimediare, quando avessi disonorato il tuo prossimo.
9 Have the quarrel out with your neighbour. but do not disclose another's secret,	9 Tratta la tua causa col tuo amico, ma il secreto non rivelarlo ad altri;
10 for fear your listener put you to shame, and the loss of repute be irremediable.	10 affinchè se l'ode, non t'insultie non cessi più dal rinfacciartelo. La grazia e l'amicizia liberano e tu conservale per non riuscire biasimevole.
11 Like apples of gold inlaid with silver is a word that is aptly spoken.	11 Pomi d'oro in legature d'argentoè una parola detta a suo tempo.
12 A golden ring, an ornament of finest gold, is a wise rebuke to an attentive ear.	12 Un orecchino d'oro e una gemma brillantechi dà ammonimenti a un sapiente e a un orecchio docile.
13 The coolness of snow in harvest time, such is a trustworthy messenger to those who send him: herevives the soul of his master.	13 Come il fresco della neve in giorno di mietitura, così l'ambasciatore fedele a colui che l'ha mandato, gli fa provare un ristoro all'animo.

16 Eat to your satisfaction what honey you may find, but not to excess or you wil bring it up again.	16 Hai trovato del miele? mangiane quanto ti basta, affinchè se ti satolli non l'abbia a vomitare.
17 Do not set foot too often in your neighbour's house, for fear the neighbour tire of you and come tohate you.	17 Trattieni il piede dall'andare in casa del tuo prossimo, affinchè non si nausei e t'aborrisca.
18 A mace, a sword, a piercing arrow, such is anyone who bears false witness against a companion.	18 Un dardo, una spada, una sa etta acutaè l'uomo che depone contro al suo prossimo in falso testimonio.
19 Decaying tooth, lame foot, such is the fickle when trusted in time of trouble:	19 Un dente cariato e un piede cascanteè la fiducia di chi spera in uno sleale nel giorno dell'angustia.
20 as well take off your coat in bitter weather. You are pouring vinegar on a wound when you sing songsto a sorrowing heart.	20 Perde il mantello in giorno di freddo.... Aceto sul nitrochi canta arie allegre ad un cuore triste. Come la tignuola al panno e il tarlo al legno, così nuoce la tristezza al cuore dell'uomo.
21 If your enemy is hungry, give him something to eat; if thirsty, something to drink.	21 Se il tuo nemico avrà fame dagli da mangiare, se avrà sete dagli acqua da bere,
22 By this you will be heaping red-hot coals on his head, and Yahweh wil reward you.	22 così facendo, radunerai sul suo capo carboni accesi, e il Signore te ne renderà il merito.
23 The north wind begets the rain, and a backbiting tongue, black looks.	23 Il vento di tramontana sgomina la pioggia, e una faccia severa, la lingua maledica.
24 Better the corner of a roof to live on than a house shared with a quarrelsome woman.	24 È meglio stare in un angolo del solaio, che con una donna litigiosa e far camera comune.
25 Cold water to a thirsty throat; such is good news from a distant land.	25 Acqua fresca ad una persona assetataè un buon messaggio di terra lontana.
26 A churned -- up spring, a fountain fouled; such is the upright person trembling before the wicked.	26 Una fontana sciupata coi piedi, una sorgente intorbidataè il giusto che cede davanti all'empio.
27 It is not good to eat too much honey, nor to seek for glory on top of glory.	27 Come a colui che mangia troppo miele non gli fa bene, così chi si fa scrutatore della ma està, sarà oppresso dalla gloria.
28 An open town, and without defences: such is anyone who lacks self-control.	28 Come una città aperta e senza cinta di muro, tal è l'uomo che parlando non può metter ritegno al suo spirito.
