Proverbs 25

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Here are some more of Solomon's proverbs, transcribed at the court of Hezekiah king of Judah:	1 Estos también son proverbios de Salomón, coleccionados por los hombres de Ezequías, rey de Judá.
2 To conceal a matter, this is the glory of God, to sift it thoroughly, the glory of kings.	2 Es gloria de Dios mantener oculta una cosa, y gloria de los reyes investigarla.
3 The heavens for height and the earth for depth, unfathomable, as are the hearts of kings.	3 El cielo por su altura, la tierra por su profundidad, y el corazón de los reyes son impenetrables.
4 From silver remove the dross and it emerges wholly purified;	4 Quita las escorias de la plata, y saldrá un vaso para el orfebre;
5 from the king's presence remove the wicked and on uprightness his throne is founded.	5 quita al malvado de la presencia del rey, y su trono se afianzará en la justicia.
6 In the presence of the king do not give yourself airs, do not take a place among the great;	6 No te des importancia en la presencia del rey ni te pongas en el lugar de los grandes:
7 better to be invited, 'Come up here', than be humiliated in the presence of the prince.	7 más vale que te digan: «Sube aquí», que verte humillado ante un noble. Lo que han visto tus ojos,
8 What your eyes have witnessed do not produce too quickly at the trial, for what are you to do at theend should your neighbour confute you?	8 no te apresures a llevarlo a juicio; porque ¿qué harás al final, cuando tu prójimo te cubra de confusión?
9 Have the quarrel out with your neighbour. but do not disclose another's secret,	9 Defiende tu causa contra tu prójimo, pero no reveles el secreto de otro,
10 for fear your listener put you to shame, and the loss of repute be irremediable.	10 no sea que te eche en cara el que lo oye y tu infamia sea irreparable.
11 Like apples of gold inlaid with silver is a word that is aptly spoken.	11 Manzanas de oro con filigranas de plata es la palabra dicha oportunamente.
12 A golden ring, an ornament of finest gold, is a wise rebuke to an attentive ear.	12 Anillo de oro y collar de oro fino es el sabio que reprende al que sabe escuchar.

15 With patience a judge may be cajoled: a soft tongue breaks bones.	15 Con mucha paciencia se convence a un magistrado, y la lengua suave quiebra hasta un hueso.
16 Eat to your satisfaction what honey you may find, but not to excess or you wil bring it up again.	16 ¿Has encontrado miel? Come lo indispensable, no sea que te hartes y la tengas que vomitar.
17 Do not set foot too often in your neighbour's house, for fear the neighbour tire of you and come tohate you.	17 Pon tu pie raramente en la casa de tu vecino, no sea que se harte de ti y te aborrezca.
18 A mace, a sword, a piercing arrow, such is anyone who bears false witness against a companion.	18 Maza, espada y flecha puntiaguda es el que atestigua falsamente contra su prójimo.
19 Decaying tooth, lame foot, such is the fickle when trusted in time of trouble:	19 Diente picado, pie que vacila es confiar en el traidor cuando llega la adversidad.
20 as well take off your coat in bitter weather. You are pouring vinegar on a wound when you sing songsto a sorrowing heart.	20 Quitar el manto en un día de frío, echar vinagre sobre una llaga es entonar canciones a un corazón afligido.
21 If your enemy is hungry, give him something to eat; if thirsty, something to drink.	21 Si tu enemigo tiene hambre, dale de comer; si tiene sed, dale de beber:
22 By this you will be heaping red-hot coals on his head, and Yahweh wil reward you.	22 así acumulas carbones encendidos sobre tu cabeza y el Señor te recompensará.
23 The north wind begets the rain, and a backbiting tongue, black looks.	23 El viento del norte engendra la lluvia y la lengua simuladora, un rostro irritado.
24 Better the corner of a roof to live on than a house shared with a quarrelsome woman.	24 Más vale habitar en un rincón del techo que compartir la casa con una mujer pendenciera.
25 Cold water to a thirsty throat; such is good news from a distant land.	25 Agua fresca para una garganta reseca es una buena noticia que llega de un país lejano.
26 A churned -- up spring, a fountain fouled; such is the upright person trembling before the wicked.	26 Fuente enturbiada y manantial contaminado es el justo que vacila ante el malvado.
27 It is not good to eat too much honey, nor to seek for glory on top of glory.	27 No es bueno comer mucha miel ni buscar excesivos honores.
28 An open town, and without defences: such is anyone who lacks self-control.	28 Ciudad desmantelada y sin muralla es el hombre que no domina su genio.
