Proverbs 11

NEW JERUSALEM	KÁLDI-NEOVULGÁTA
1 A false balance is abhorrent to Yahweh, a just weight is pleasing to him.	1 Utálja az Úr a hamis mérleget, de kedvét leli a csorbítatlan súlyban.
2 Pride comes first; disgrace soon fol ows; with the humble is wisdom found.	2 Ahol gőg van, ott gyalázat is lesz, de ahol szerénység van, ott bölcsesség is van.
3 The honest have their own honesty for guidance, the treacherous are ruined by their own perfidy.	3 Az igazakat jámborságuk bizton vezérli, de a csalókat tönkreteszi hamisságuk.
4 In the day of retribution riches wil be useless, but uprightness delivers from death.	4 Semmit sem használ a gazdagság a harag napján, a becsületesség azonban megóv a haláltól.
5 The uprightness of the good makes their way straight, the wicked fal by their own wickedness.	5 A jámbor útját igaz volta egyengeti, a gonoszt pedig gonoszsága elejti.
6 Their uprightness sets the honest free, the treacherous are imprisoned by their own desires.	6 A becsületes embereket megmenti igaz voltuk, a csalók pedig ármányaik tőrébe esnek.
7 The hope of the wicked perishes with death, hope placed in riches comes to nothing.	7 A gonosz ember halála véget vet a reménynek, s a vagyonba vetett bizalom szertefoszlik.
8 The upright escapes affliction, the wicked incurs it instead.	8 Az igaz megmenekszik a szorongatásból, s a gonosz jut a helyébe.
9 Through his mouth the godless is the ruin of his neighbour, but by knowledge the upright aresafeguarded.	9 Az álnok tőrt vet szájával társának, de az igazakat megmenti okosságuk.
10 When the upright prosper the city rejoices, when the wicked are ruined there is a shout of joy.	10 Az igazak jó sorsának megörül a város, s a gonoszok romlásán nagy az ujjongás.
11 A city is raised on the blessing of the honest, and demolished by the mouth of the wicked.	11 Az igazak áldása által emelkedik a város, a gonoszok szája pedig lerontja azt.
12 Whoever looks down on a neighbour lacks good sense; the intelligent keeps a check on the tongue.	12 Az együgyű lenézi társát, az okos férfi pedig meghallgatja.
13 A tittle-tattler lets secrets out, the trustworthy keeps things hidden.	13 Aki pletykával házal, kibeszéli a titkot, aki pedig megbízható, elrejti, amit barátja rábízott.
14 For want of leadership a people perishes, safety lies in many advisers.	14 Ahol nincsen vezér, elvész a nép, de jólét van ott, hol bőven akad tanácsadó.
15 Whoever goes bail for a stranger does himself harm, but one who shuns going surety is safe.	15 Rosszul jár, aki idegenért jótáll, bizton csak az van, aki kerüli a kezességet.
16 A gracious woman acquires honour, violent people acquire wealth.	16 A tisztességes asszony becsületet arat, a szorgosak pedig vagyonhoz jutnak.
17 Faithful love brings its own reward, the inflexible injure their own selves.	17 A könyörületes ember magával is jót tesz, a kegyetlen pedig rokonait is eltaszítja.
18 Disappointment crowns the labours of the wicked, whoever sows uprightness reaps a solid reward.	18 Csalóka nyereségre dolgozik a gonosz, aki igazságot vet, annak lesz maradandó jutalma.
19 Whoever establishes uprightness is on the way to life, whoever pursues evil, on the way to death.	19 A jóság életet szerez, a gonosz követése pedig halált.
20 Tortuous hearts are abhorrent to Yahweh, dear to him, those whose ways are blameless.	20 Utálja az Úr az álnok szívet, de kedvét leli azokban, akiknek útja feddhetetlen.
21 Be sure of it, the wicked wil not go unpunished, but the race of the upright wil come to no harm.	21 A kezem rá, hogy a gonosznak nincsen mentsége, az igazak ivadéka azonban megmenekszik.
22 A golden ring in the snout of a pig is a lovely woman who lacks discretion.	22 Sertés orrában aranykarika: ilyen a szép nő, ha illetlen.
23 The hope of the upright is nothing but good, the expectation of the wicked is retribution.	23 Az igazak csak jót remélhetnek, a gonoszokra pedig a harag vár.
24 One scatters money around, yet only adds to his wealth, another is excessively mean, but only growsthe poorer.	24 Vannak, akik elosztják a magukét és gazdagabbak lesznek, mások elragadják a másét, és folyton nélkülöznek.
25 The soul who blesses wil prosper, whoever satisfies others wil also be satisfied.	25 Aki áldásban részesít, maga is gyarapszik, s aki itat, maga is betelik itallal.
26 The people's curse is on those who hoard the wheat, their blessing on the head of those who sel it.	26 Elátkozza a nép azt, aki visszatartja gabonáját, de áldás száll annak fejére, aki áruba bocsátja.
27 Whoever strives for good obtains favour, whoever looks for evil wil get an evil return.	27 Jókor kel reggel, aki jót akar, aki pedig rosszat tervez, maga kerül bajba.
28 Whoever trusts in riches wil have a fal , the upright wil flourish like the leaves.	28 Aki gazdagságában bízik, elbukik, az igazak pedig virulnak, mint a friss lombkorona.
29 Whoever misgoverns a house inherits the wind, and the fool becomes slave to the wise.	29 Aki megbolygatja házát, szelet vet, s a balga a bölcsnek lesz szolgája.
30 The fruit of the upright is a tree of life: the sage captivates souls.	30 Az igaznak gyümölcse az élet fája, de a gonoszság elveszti a lelkeket.
31 If here on earth the upright gets due reward, how much more the wicked and the sinner!	31 Ha az igaz is megkapja a földön a magáét, mennyivel inkább a gonosz és a bűnös!
