Proverbs 11

1 A false balance is abhorrent to Yahweh, a just weight is pleasing to him.	1 Il Signore aborrisce la bilancia falsa, ma del peso esatto egli si compiace.
2 Pride comes first; disgrace soon fol ows; with the humble is wisdom found.	2 Dove c’è insolenza c’è anche disonore, ma la sapienza sta con gli umili.
3 The honest have their own honesty for guidance, the treacherous are ruined by their own perfidy.	3 L’integrità guida gli uomini retti, la malvagità è la rovina dei perfidi.
4 In the day of retribution riches wil be useless, but uprightness delivers from death.	4 Non giova la ricchezza nel giorno della collera, ma la giustizia libera dalla morte.
5 The uprightness of the good makes their way straight, the wicked fal by their own wickedness.	5 La giustizia dell’uomo onesto gli spiana la via, per la sua cattiveria cade il cattivo.
6 Their uprightness sets the honest free, the treacherous are imprisoned by their own desires.	6 La giustizia salva gli onesti, nella cupidigia restano presi i perfidi.
7 The hope of the wicked perishes with death, hope placed in riches comes to nothing.	7 Con la morte del malvagio svanisce ogni sua speranza, l’attesa dei ricchi scompare.
8 The upright escapes affliction, the wicked incurs it instead.	8 Il giusto è liberato dall’angoscia, al suo posto subentra il malvagio.
9 Through his mouth the godless is the ruin of his neighbour, but by knowledge the upright aresafeguarded.	9 Con la sua bocca il bugiardo rovina l’amico, i giusti con la loro scienza si salvano.
10 When the upright prosper the city rejoices, when the wicked are ruined there is a shout of joy.	10 Della prosperità dei giusti la città si rallegra, per la rovina dei malvagi si fa festa.
11 A city is raised on the blessing of the honest, and demolished by the mouth of the wicked.	11 La benedizione degli uomini retti fa prosperare una città, le parole dei malvagi la distruggono.
12 Whoever looks down on a neighbour lacks good sense; the intelligent keeps a check on the tongue.	12 Disprezza il suo prossimo chi è privo di senno, ma l’uomo prudente tace.
13 A tittle-tattler lets secrets out, the trustworthy keeps things hidden.	13 Chi va in giro sparlando svela il segreto, ma l’uomo fidato tiene nascosto ciò che sa.
14 For want of leadership a people perishes, safety lies in many advisers.	14 Dove manca una guida il popolo va in rovina; la salvezza dipende dal numero dei consiglieri.
15 Whoever goes bail for a stranger does himself harm, but one who shuns going surety is safe.	15 Chi garantisce per un estraneo si troverà male, chi rifiuta garanzie vive tranquillo.
16 A gracious woman acquires honour, violent people acquire wealth.	16 La donna avvenente ottiene onore, gli uomini laboriosi ottengono ricchezze.
17 Faithful love brings its own reward, the inflexible injure their own selves.	17 Benefica se stesso chi è buono, il crudele invece tormenta la sua carne.
18 Disappointment crowns the labours of the wicked, whoever sows uprightness reaps a solid reward.	18 L’empio realizza opere fallaci, per chi semina giustizia il salario è assicurato.
19 Whoever establishes uprightness is on the way to life, whoever pursues evil, on the way to death.	19 Chi pratica la giustizia si procura la vita, chi persegue il male va verso la morte.
20 Tortuous hearts are abhorrent to Yahweh, dear to him, those whose ways are blameless.	20 Un cuore perverso il Signore lo detesta: egli si compiace di chi ha una condotta integra.
21 Be sure of it, the wicked wil not go unpunished, but the race of the upright wil come to no harm.	21 Certamente non resterà impunito il malvagio, ma la discendenza dei giusti sarà salva.
22 A golden ring in the snout of a pig is a lovely woman who lacks discretion.	22 Un anello d’oro al naso di un maiale, tale è la donna bella ma senza cervello.
23 The hope of the upright is nothing but good, the expectation of the wicked is retribution.	23 La brama dei giusti è solo il bene, la speranza degli empi è la collera.
24 One scatters money around, yet only adds to his wealth, another is excessively mean, but only growsthe poorer.	24 C’è chi largheggia e la sua ricchezza aumenta, c’è chi risparmia oltre misura e finisce nella miseria.
25 The soul who blesses wil prosper, whoever satisfies others wil also be satisfied.	25 La persona benefica prospererà e chi disseta sarà dissetato.
26 The people's curse is on those who hoard the wheat, their blessing on the head of those who sel it.	26 Chi accaparra il grano è maledetto dal popolo, la benedizione sta sul capo di chi lo vende.
27 Whoever strives for good obtains favour, whoever looks for evil wil get an evil return.	27 Chi è sollecito del bene incontra favore e chi cerca il male, male gli accadrà.
28 Whoever trusts in riches wil have a fal , the upright wil flourish like the leaves.	28 Chi confida nella propria ricchezza cadrà, i giusti invece rinverdiranno come foglie.
29 Whoever misgoverns a house inherits the wind, and the fool becomes slave to the wise.	29 Chi crea disordine in casa erediterà vento e lo stolto sarà schiavo dell’uomo di senno.
30 The fruit of the upright is a tree of life: the sage captivates souls.	30 Il frutto del giusto è un albero di vita, il saggio conquista i cuori.
31 If here on earth the upright gets due reward, how much more the wicked and the sinner!	31 Ecco, il giusto è ripagato sulla terra: tanto più l’empio e il peccatore.
