You who live in the secret place of Elyon, spend your nights in the shelter of Shaddai, | 1 You who dwell in the shelter of the Most High, who abide in the shadow of the Almighty, |
saying to Yahweh, 'My refuge, my fortress, my God in whom I trust!' | 2 Say to the LORD, "My refuge and fortress, my God in whom I trust." |
He rescues you from the snare of the fowler set on destruction; | 3 God will rescue you from the fowler's snare, from the destroying plague, |
he covers you with his pinions, you find shelter under his wings. His constancy is shield andprotection. | 4 Will shelter you with pinions, spread wings that you may take refuge; God's faithfulness is a protecting shield. |
You need not fear the terrors of night, the arrow that flies in the daytime, | 5 You shall not fear the terror of the night nor the arrow that flies by day, |
the plague that stalks in the darkness, the scourge that wreaks havoc at high noon. | 6 Nor the pestilence that roams in darkness, nor the plague that ravages at noon. |
Though a thousand fal at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, you yourself wil remainunscathed. | 7 Though a thousand fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, near you it shall not come. |
You have only to keep your eyes open to see how the wicked are repaid, | 8 You need simply watch; the punishment of the wicked you will see. |
you who say, 'Yahweh my refuge!' and make Elyon your fortress. | 9 You have the LORD for your refuge; you have made the Most High your stronghold. |
No disaster can overtake you, no plague come near your tent; | 10 No evil shall befall you, no affliction come near your tent. |
he has given his angels orders about you to guard you wherever you go. | 11 For God commands the angels to guard you in all your ways. |
They will carry you in their arms in case you trip over a stone. | 12 With their hands they shall support you, lest you strike your foot against a stone. |
You wil walk upon wild beast and adder, you wil trample young lions and snakes. | 13 You shall tread upon the asp and the viper, trample the lion and the dragon. |
'Since he clings to me I rescue him, I raise him high, since he acknowledges my name. | 14 Whoever clings to me I will deliver; whoever knows my name I will set on high. |
He cal s to me and I answer him: in distress I am at his side, I rescue him and bring him honour. | 15 All who call upon me I will answer; I will be with them in distress; I will deliver them and give them honor. |
I shal satisfy him with long life, and grant him to see my salvation.' | 16 With length of days I will satisfy them and show them my saving power. |
