Psalms 18

NEW JERUSALEM	NOVA VULGATA
1 [For the choirmaster Of David, the servant of Yahweh, who addressed the words of this song toYahweh when Yahweh had delivered him from all his enemies and from the clutches of Saul. He said:] I loveyou, Yahweh, my strength (my Saviour, you have saved me from violence).	1 Magistro chori. David, servi Domini, qui locutus est ad Dominum verba huius cantici, quando Dominus eum liberaverat e potestate omnium inimicorum suorum
2 Yahweh is my rock and my fortress, my deliverer is my God. I take refuge in him, my rock, my shield,my saving strength, my stronghold, my place of refuge.	2 et e manu Saul. Dixit igitur: Diligam te, Domine, fortitudo mea.
3 I call to Yahweh who is worthy of praise, and I am saved from my foes.	3 Domine, firmamentum meum et refugium meum et liberator meus; Deus meus, adiutor meus, et sperabo in eum; protector meus et cornu salutis meae et susceptor meus.
4 With Death's breakers closing in on me, Belial's torrents ready to swal ow me,	4 Laudabilem invocabo Dominum, et ab inimicis meis salvus ero.
5 Sheol's snares every side of me, Death's traps lying ahead of me,	5 Circumdederunt me fluctus mortis, et torrentes Belial conturbaverunt me;
6 I called to Yahweh in my anguish, I cried for help to my God; from his Temple he heard my voice, mycry came to his ears.	6 funes inferni circumdederunt me, praeoccupaverunt me laquei mortis.
7 Then the earth quaked and rocked, the mountains' foundations shuddered, they quaked at his blazinganger.	7 In tribulatione mea invocavi Dominum et ad Deum meum clamavi; exaudivit de templo suo vocem meam, et clamor meus in conspectu eius introivit in aures eius.
8 Smoke rose from his nostrils, from his mouth devouring fire (coals were kindled at it).	8 Commota est et contremuit terra; fundamenta montium concussa sunt et commota sunt, quoniam iratus est.
9 He parted the heavens and came down, a storm-cloud underneath his feet;	9 Ascendit fumus de naribus eius, et ignis de ore eius devorans; carbones succensi processerunt ab eo.
10 riding one of the winged creatures, he flew, soaring on the wings of the wind.	10 Inclinavit caelos et descendit, et caligo sub pedibus eius.
11 His covering he made the darkness, his pavilion dark waters and dense cloud.	11 Et ascendit super cherub et volavit, ferebatur super pennas ventorum.
12 A brightness lit up before him, hail and blazing fire.	12 Et posuit tenebras latibulum suum, in circuitu eius tabernaculum eius, tenebrosa aqua, nubes aeris.
13 Yahweh thundered from the heavens, the Most High made his voice heard.	13 Prae fulgore in conspectu eius nubes transierunt, grando et carbones ignis.
14 He shot his arrows and scattered them, he hurled his lightning and routed them.	14 Et intonuit de caelo Dominus, et Altissimus dedit vocem suam: grando et carbones ignis.
15 The very springs of ocean were exposed, the world's foundations were laid bare, at your roaring,Yahweh, at the blast of breath from your nostrils!	15 Et misit sagittas suas et dissipavit eos, fulgura iecit et conturbavit eos.
16 He reached down from on high, snatched me up, pulled me from the watery depths,	16 Et apparuerunt fontes aquarum, et revelata sunt fundamenta orbis terrarum ab increpatione tua, Domine, ab inspiratione spiritus irae tuae.
17 rescued me from my mighty foe, from my enemies who were stronger than I.	17 Misit de summo et accepit me et assumpsit me de aquis multis;
18 They assailed me on my day of disaster but Yahweh was there to support me;	18 eripuit me de inimicis meis fortissimis et ab his, qui oderunt me, quoniam confortati sunt super me.
19 he freed me, set me at large, he rescued me because he loves me.	19 Oppugnaverunt me in die afflictionis meae, et factus est Dominus fulcimentum meum;
20 Yahweh rewards me for my uprightness, as my hands are pure, so he repays me,	20 et eduxit me in latitudinem, salvum me fecit, quoniam voluit me.
21 since I have kept the ways of Yahweh, and not fallen away from my God.	21 Et retribuet mihi Dominus secundum iustitiam meam et secundum puritatem manuum mearum reddet mihi,
22 His judgements are al before me, his statutes I have not put away from me.	22 quia custodivi vias Domini nec impie recessi a Deo meo.
23 I am blameless before him, I keep myself clear of evil.	23 Quoniam omnia iudicia eius in conspectu meo, et iustitias eius non reppuli a me;
24 So Yahweh repaid me for acting uprightly because he could see I was pure.	24 et fui immaculatus cum eo et observavi me ab iniquitate.
25 You are faithful to the faithful, blameless with the blameless,	25 Et retribuit mihi Dominus secundum iustitiam meam et secundum puritatem manuum mearum in conspectu oculorum eius.
26 sincere to the sincere, but cunning to the crafty,	26 Cum sancto sanctus eris et cum viro innocente innocens eris
27 you save a people that is humble and humiliate those with haughty looks.	27 et cum electo electus eris et cum perverso callidus eris.
28 Yahweh, you yourself are my lamp, my God lights up my darkness;	28 Quoniam tu populum humilem salvum facies et oculos superborum humiliabis.
29 with you I storm the rampart, with my God I can scale any wal .	29 Quoniam tu accendis lucernam meam, Domine; Deus meus illuminat tenebras meas.
30 This God, his way is blameless; the word of Yahweh is refined in the furnace, for he alone is theshield of al who take refuge in him.	30 Quoniam in te aggrediar hostium turmas et in Deo meo transiliam murum.
31 For who is God but Yahweh, who is a rock but our God?	31 Deus, impolluta via eius, eloquia Domini igne examinata; protector est omnium sperantium in se.
32 This God who girds me with strength, who makes my way free from blame,	32 Quoniam quis Deus praeter Dominum? Aut quae munitio praeter Deum nostrum?
33 who makes me as swift as a deer and sets me firmly on the heights,	33 Deus, qui praecinxit me virtute et posuit immaculatam viam meam;
34 who trains my hands for battle, my arms to bend a bow of bronze.	34 qui perfecit pedes meos tamquam cervorum et super excelsa statuit me;
35 You give me your invincible shield (your right hand upholds me) you never cease to listen to me,	35 qui docet manus meas ad proelium, et tendunt arcum aereum brachia mea.
36 you give me the strides of a giant, give me ankles that never weaken.	36 Et dedisti mihi scutum salutis tuae, et dextera tua suscepit me, et exauditio tua magnificavit me.
37 I pursue my enemies and overtake them, not turning back til they are annihilated;	37 Dilatasti gressus meos subtus me, et non sunt infirmata vestigia mea.
38 I strike them down and they cannot rise, they fall, they are under my feet.	38 Persequebar inimicos meos et comprehendebam illos et non convertebar, donec deficerent.
39 You have girded me with strength for the fight, bent down my assailants beneath me,	39 Confringebam illos, nec poterant stare, cadebant subtus pedes meos.
40 made my enemies retreat before me; and those who hate me I destroy.	40 Et praecinxisti me virtute ad bellum et supplantasti insurgentes in me subtus me.
41 They cry out, there is no one to save; to Yahweh, but no answer comes.	41 Et inimicos meos dedisti mihi dorsum et odientes me disperdidisti.
42 I crumble them like dust before the wind, trample them like the mud of the streets.	42 Clamaverunt, nec erat qui salvos faceret, ad Dominum, nec exaudivit eos.
43 You free me from the quarrels of my people, you place me at the head of the nations, a people I didnot know are now my servants;	43 Et comminui eos ut pulverem ante faciem venti, ut lutum platearum contrivi eos.
44 foreigners come wooing my favour, no sooner do they hear than they obey me;	44 Eripuisti me de contradictionibus populi, constituisti me in caput gentium. Populus, quem non cognovi, servivit mihi,
45 foreigners grow faint of heart, they come trembling out of their fastnesses.	45 in auditu auris oboedivit mihi. Filii alieni blanditi sunt mihi,
46 Life to Yahweh! Blessed be my rock! Exalted be the God of my salvation,	46 filii alieni inveterati sunt, contremuerunt in abditis suis.
47 the God who gives me vengeance, and subjects whole peoples to me,	47 Vivit Dominus, et benedictus Adiutor meus, et exaltetur Deus salutis meae.
48 who rescues me from my raging enemies. You lift me high above those who attack me, you deliverme from the man of violence.	48 Deus, qui das vindictas mihi et subdis populos sub me, liberator meus de inimicis meis iracundis;
49 For this I wil praise you, Yahweh, among the nations, and sing praise to your name.	49 et ab insurgentibus in me exaltas me, a viro iniquo eripis me.
50 He saves his king time after time, displays his faithful love for his anointed, for David and his heirs forever.	50 Propterea confitebor tibi in nationibus, Domine, et nomini tuo psalmum dicam,
	51 magnificans salutes regis sui et faciens misericordiam christo suo David et semini eius usque in saeculum.
