1 [For the choirmaster Of David, the servant of Yahweh, who addressed the words of this song toYahweh when Yahweh had delivered him from all his enemies and from the clutches of Saul. He said:] I loveyou, Yahweh, my strength (my Saviour, you have saved me from violence).	1 Salmo di Davide, servitor del Signore, il qual pronunzio’ le parole di questo cantico al Signore, nel giorno che il Signore l’ebbe riscosso dalla mano di tutti I suoi nemici, e dalla mano di Saulle; dato al capo de’ Musici. Egli adunque disse: O SIGNORE, mia forza, io ti amerò affettuosamente.
2 Yahweh is my rock and my fortress, my deliverer is my God. I take refuge in him, my rock, my shield,my saving strength, my stronghold, my place of refuge.	2 Il Signore è la mia rocca, e la mia fortezza, e il mio liberatore, Il mio Dio, la mia rupe; io spererò in lui; Il mio scudo, e il corno della mia salute, il mio alto ricetto.
3 I call to Yahweh who is worthy of praise, and I am saved from my foes.	3 Io invocai il Signore, a cui si deve ogni lode; E fui salvato da’ miei nemici.
4 With Death's breakers closing in on me, Belial's torrents ready to swal ow me,	4 Doglie di morte mi avevano circondato, E torrenti di scellerati mi avevano spaventato.
5 Sheol's snares every side of me, Death's traps lying ahead of me,	5 Legami di sepolcro mi avevano intorniato, Lacci di morte mi avevano incontrato.
6 I called to Yahweh in my anguish, I cried for help to my God; from his Temple he heard my voice, mycry came to his ears.	6 Nella mia distretta io invocai il Signore, E gridai all’Iddio mio; Ed egli udì la mia voce dal suo Tempio, E il mio grido pervenne davanti a lui a’ suoi orecchi.
7 Then the earth quaked and rocked, the mountains' foundations shuddered, they quaked at his blazinganger.	7 Allora la terra fu scossa, e tremò; E i fondamenti de’ monti furono smossi E scrollati; perciocchè egli era acceso nell’ira.
8 Smoke rose from his nostrils, from his mouth devouring fire (coals were kindled at it).	8 Un fumo gli saliva per le nari, Ed un fuoco consumante per la bocca; Da lui procedevano brace accese.
9 He parted the heavens and came down, a storm-cloud underneath his feet;	9 Ed egli abbassò i cieli, e discese; E vi era una caligine sotto a’ suoi piedi.
10 riding one of the winged creatures, he flew, soaring on the wings of the wind.	10 E cavalcava sopra Cherubini, e volava; Ed era portato a volo sopra l’ale del vento.
11 His covering he made the darkness, his pavilion dark waters and dense cloud.	11 Egli aveva poste delle tenebre per suo nascondimento; Egli avea d’intorno a sè il suo padiglione, Oscurità d’acque, nubi dell’aria.
12 A brightness lit up before him, hail and blazing fire.	12 Le sue nubi si dileguarono per lo splendore che scoppiava davanti a lui, Con gragnuola e brace accese.
13 Yahweh thundered from the heavens, the Most High made his voice heard.	13 E il Signore tuonò nel cielo, E l’Altissimo diede fuori la sua voce, Con gragnuola e brace accese.
14 He shot his arrows and scattered them, he hurled his lightning and routed them.	14 Ed avventò le sue saette, e disperse coloro; Egli lanciò folgori, e li mise in rotta.
15 The very springs of ocean were exposed, the world's foundations were laid bare, at your roaring,Yahweh, at the blast of breath from your nostrils!	15 E per lo tuo sgridare, o Signore, E per lo soffiar del vento delle tue nari, I canali delle acque apparvero, E i fondamenti del mondo furono scoperti.
16 He reached down from on high, snatched me up, pulled me from the watery depths,	16 Egli da alto distese la mano e mi prese, E mi trasse, fuori di grandi acque.
17 rescued me from my mighty foe, from my enemies who were stronger than I.	17 Egli mi riscosse dal mio potente nemico, E da quelli che mi odiavano; perciocchè erano più forti di me.
18 They assailed me on my day of disaster but Yahweh was there to support me;	18 Essi erano venuti incontro a me nel giorno della mia calamità; Ma il Signore fu il mio sostegno;
19 he freed me, set me at large, he rescued me because he loves me.	19 E mi trasse fuori al largo; Egli mi liberò, perciocchè egli mi gradisce
20 Yahweh rewards me for my uprightness, as my hands are pure, so he repays me,	20 Il Signore mi ha fatta retribuzione secondo la mia giustizia; Egli mi ha renduto secondo la purità delle mie mani;
21 since I have kept the ways of Yahweh, and not fallen away from my God.	21 Perciocchè io ho osservate le vie del Signore, E non mi sono empiamente rivolto dall’Iddio mio;
22 His judgements are al before me, his statutes I have not put away from me.	22 Perciocchè io ho tenute davanti a me tutte le sue leggi, E non ho rimossi d’innanzi a me i suoi statuti.
23 I am blameless before him, I keep myself clear of evil.	23 E sono stato intiero inverso lui, E mi son guardato dalla mia iniquità.
24 So Yahweh repaid me for acting uprightly because he could see I was pure.	24 E il Signore mi ha renduto secondo la mia giustizia, Secondo la purità delle mie mani nel suo cospetto.
25 You are faithful to the faithful, blameless with the blameless,	25 Tu ti mostri pietoso inverso l’uomo pio, Intiero inverso l’uomo intiero.
26 sincere to the sincere, but cunning to the crafty,	26 Tu ti mostri puro col puro, E procedi ritrosamente col perverso;
27 you save a people that is humble and humiliate those with haughty looks.	27 Perciocchè tu sei quel che salvi la gente afflitta, Ed abbassi gli occhi altieri;
28 Yahweh, you yourself are my lamp, my God lights up my darkness;	28 Perciocchè tu sei quel che fai risplendere la mia lampana; Il Signore Iddio mio allumina le mie tenebre;
29 with you I storm the rampart, with my God I can scale any wal .	29 Perciocchè per la tua virtù io rompo tutta una schiera; E per la virtù dell’Iddio mio salgo sopra il muro.
30 This God, his way is blameless; the word of Yahweh is refined in the furnace, for he alone is theshield of al who take refuge in him.	30 La via di Dio è intiera; La parola del Signore è purgata col fuoco; Egli è lo scudo di tutti coloro che sperano in lui.
31 For who is God but Yahweh, who is a rock but our God?	31 Perciocchè chi è Dio, fuor che il Signore? E chi è Rocca, fuor che l’Iddio nostro?
32 This God who girds me with strength, who makes my way free from blame,	32 Iddio è quel che mi cinge di prodezza, E che ha appianata la mia via.
33 who makes me as swift as a deer and sets me firmly on the heights,	33 Egli rende i miei piedi simili a quelli delle cerve, E mi fa star ritto in su i miei alti luoghi.
34 who trains my hands for battle, my arms to bend a bow of bronze.	34 Egli ammaestra le mie mani alla battaglia; E colle mie braccia un arco di rame è rotto.
35 You give me your invincible shield (your right hand upholds me) you never cease to listen to me,	35 Tu mi hai ancora dato lo scudo della tua salvezza; E la tua destra mi ha sostenuto, E la tua benignità mi ha accresciuto.
36 you give me the strides of a giant, give me ankles that never weaken.	36 Tu hai allargati i miei passi sotto di me; E le mie calcagna non son vacillate.
37 I pursue my enemies and overtake them, not turning back til they are annihilated;	37 Io ho perseguitati i miei nemici, e li ho aggiunti; E non me ne son tornato indietro, finchè non li abbia distrutti.
38 I strike them down and they cannot rise, they fall, they are under my feet.	38 Io li ho rotti, e non son potuti risorgere; Mi son caduti sotto i piedi.
39 You have girded me with strength for the fight, bent down my assailants beneath me,	39 E tu mi hai cinto di prodezza per la guerra; Ed hai abbattuti sotto di me quelli che si levavano contro a me.
40 made my enemies retreat before me; and those who hate me I destroy.	40 Ed hai fatto voltar le spalle a’ miei nemici davanti a me; Ed io ho distrutti quelli che mi odiavano.
41 They cry out, there is no one to save; to Yahweh, but no answer comes.	41 Essi gridarono, ma non vi fu chi li salvasse; Gridarono al Signore, ma egli non rispose loro.
42 I crumble them like dust before the wind, trample them like the mud of the streets.	42 Ed io li ho tritati, come polvere esposta al vento; Io li ho spazzati via, come il fango delle strade.
43 You free me from the quarrels of my people, you place me at the head of the nations, a people I didnot know are now my servants;	43 Tu mi hai scampato dalle brighe del popolo; Tu mi hai costituito capo di nazioni; Il popolo che io non conosceva mi è stato sottoposto.
44 foreigners come wooing my favour, no sooner do they hear than they obey me;	44 Al solo udir degli orecchi si son ridotti sotto la mia ubbidienza; Gli stranieri si sono infinti inverso me.
45 foreigners grow faint of heart, they come trembling out of their fastnesses.	45 Gli stranieri son divenuti fiacchi, Ed hanno tremato di paura, fin dentro a’ lor ripari.
46 Life to Yahweh! Blessed be my rock! Exalted be the God of my salvation,	46 Viva il Signore, e benedetta sia la mia Rocca; E sia esaltato l’Iddio della mia salute;
47 the God who gives me vengeance, and subjects whole peoples to me,	47 Iddio che mi dà il modo di far le mie vendette, E che mi sottomette i popoli.
48 who rescues me from my raging enemies. You lift me high above those who attack me, you deliverme from the man of violence.	48 Che mi scampa da’ miei nemici, Ed anche mi solleva d’infra quelli che mi assaltano, E mi riscuote dall’uomo violento.
49 For this I wil praise you, Yahweh, among the nations, and sing praise to your name.	49 Perciò, o Signore, io ti celebrerò fra le genti, E salmeggerò al tuo Nome;
50 He saves his king time after time, displays his faithful love for his anointed, for David and his heirs forever.	50 Il quale rende magnifiche le vittorie del suo re, Ed usa benignità inverso Davide suo unto, E inverso la sua progenie in perpetuo
