[Song of Ascents *{* The Songs of Ascents (Pss 120-134) were sung by pilgrims on their way up toJerusalem.} ] To Yahweh when I am in trouble I call and he answers me.1 A Canticle in steps. I have lifted up my eyes to the mountains; from thence help will come to me.
Yahweh, save me from lying lips and a treacherous tongue!2 My help is from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.
What will he repay you, what more, treacherous tongue?3 May he not allow your foot to be moved, and may he not slumber, who guards you.
War-arrows made sharp over red-hot charcoal.4 Behold, he who guards Israel will neither sleep, nor slumber.
How wretched I am, living in Meshech, dwel ing in the tents of Kedar!5 The Lord is your keeper, the Lord is your protection, above your right hand.
Too long have I lived among people who hate peace.6 The sun will not burn you by day, nor the moon by night.
When I speak of peace they are all for war!7 The Lord guards you from all evil. May the Lord guard your soul.
May the Lord guard your entrance and your exit, from this time forward and even forever.
