1 'If a thief is caught breaking in and is struck a mortal blow, his blood may not be avenged,	1 - Se uno avrà rubato un bove o una pecora, e l'avrà uccisa o venduta, renderà cinque bovi per un bove, e quattro pecore per una pecora.
2 but if it happens after sunrise, his blood may be avenged. He wil make ful restitution; if he has not themeans, he will be sold to pay for what he has stolen.	2 Se un ladro sarà trovato a sforzare una porta o sfondare un muro, e verrà ferito e morto, il feritore non sarà colpevole del sangue di lui.
3 If the stolen animal is found alive in his possession, be it ox, donkey or animal from the flock, he wilpay back double.	3 Ma se l'avrà fatto dopo levato il sole, il suo è un omicidio, ed egli morrà. Se il ladro non avrà che rendere per il suo furto, sarà venduto egli stesso.
4 'If anyone puts his animals out to graze in a field or vineyard and lets them graze in someone else'sfield, he wil make restitution for the part of the field that has been grazed on the basis of its yield. But if he haslet the whole field be grazed, he wil make restitution in proportion to the best crop of the field or vineyard.	4 Se quel ch'egli ha rubato si troverà vivo presso di lui, bove, asino o pecora che sia, restituirà il doppio.
5 'If a fire breaks out, setting light to thorn bushes and burning stacks, standing corn or the field as aresult, the person who started the fire wil make ful restitution.	5 Se uno danneggerà un campo o una vigna, lasciando che il suo animale vada a pascere in quella degli altri, renderà di quel che ha di meglio nel suo campo o vigna, secondo la stima fatta del danno.
6 'If anyone entrusts money or goods to someone else's keeping and these are stolen from that person'shouse, the thief, if he can be discovered, wil repay double.	6 Se del fuoco, allargandosi, trova delle siepi, e di lì s'attacca ai mucchi delle biade, o alla mèsse ancora in piedi nel campo, colui che accese il fuoco ripari il danno.
7 Should the thief not be discovered, the owner of the house will come into the presence of God, todeclare that he has not laid hands on the other person's property.	7 Se uno ha affidato del denaro o un oggetto in custodia ad un amico, e vengono rubati a chi li aveva ricevuti, il ladro, se si trova, renderà il doppio.
8 'In every case of law-breaking involving an ox, donkey, animal from the flock, clothing or lost propertyof any sort, the ownership of which is disputed, both parties wil lay their case before God. The party whom Godpronounces guilty wil pay back double to the other.	8 Se il ladro rimane sconosciuto, il padrone della casa comparirà dinanzi agli uomini di Dio, e giurerà di non aver messo la mano su cosa del prossimo suo,
9 'If anyone entrusts a donkey, ox, animal from the flock or any other animal to someone else's keeping,and it dies or breaks a limb or is carried off without anyone seeing,	9 per frodarlo del bove, dell'asino, della pecora, della veste, o di qualsiasi altra cosa danneggiata; la causa d'ambedue sarà portata innanzi agli uomini di Dio, e se essi giudicheranno così, [il depositario] renderà al prossimo suo il doppio.
10 an oath by Yahweh wil decide between the two parties whether the keeper has laid hands on theother's property or not. The owner wil take what remains, the keeper wil not have to make good the loss.	10 Se alcuno affiderà ad un suo prossimo un asino, un bove, una pecora, o un animale qualsiasi perché glielo guardi, e questo verrà morto o reso inutile o rapito dai nemici, senza che nessuno abbia veduto,
11 Only if the animal has been stolen from him, will he make restitution to the owner.	11 [il guardiano] giurerà di non aver steso la mano alla roba del prossimo suo; il padrone accetterà questo giuramento, e l'altro non sarà obbligato a restituzione.
12 If it has been savaged by a wild animal, he must bring the savaged remains of the animal asevidence, and wil then not have to make restitution.	12 Se invece l'animale gli sarà stato rubato, ne risarcirà il danno al padrone.
13 'If anyone borrows an animal from someone else, and it breaks a limb or dies in the owner's absence,he wil make ful restitution.	13 Se una fiera lo ha sbranato, porti al padrone i resti, e non sarà tenuto a restituire.
14 But if the animal's owner has been present, he wil not have to make good the loss. If the owner hashired it out, he wil get the cost of its hire.	14 Chi avrà chiesto in prestito ad un suo prossimo qualcuno di questi animali, che poi resti stroppiato o morto non essendovi presente il padrone, sarà obbligato a restituirlo.
15 'If a man seduces a virgin who is not engaged to be married, he wil pay her bride-price and make herhis wife.	15 Ma se il padrone era presente, non gli farà restituzione; specialmente se l'aveva preso a nolo pagando il benefizio del lavoro.
16 If her father absolutely refuses to let him have her, he will pay a sum equivalent to the bride-price of avirgin.	16 Se uno sedurrà una vergine non ancora fidanzata, e userà con lei, la doterà, e la prenderà in moglie.
17 'You wil not al ow a sorceress to live.	17 Se il padre della famiglia non gliela vorrà dare, [il seduttore] gli sborserà una somma pari alla dote che le fanciulle soglion ricevere.
18 'Anyone who has intercourse with an animal will be put to death.	18 Non lascerai vivere gli stregoni.
19 'Anyone who sacrifices to other gods wil be put under the curse of destruction.	19 Chi farà peccato con una bestia, sarà reo di morte.
20 'You wil not molest or oppress aliens, for you yourselves were once aliens in Egypt.	20 Chi sacrifica agli dèi, e non al solo Signore, sia ucciso.
21 You wil not il -treat widows or orphans;	21 Non opprimere il forestiero, e non l'affliggere; anche voi infatti foste forestieri nella terra d'Egitto.
22 if you il -treat them in any way and they make an appeal to me for help, I shal certainly hear theirappeal,	22 Non nocerete alla vedova ed al pupillo.
23 my anger wil be roused and I shal put you to the sword; then your own wives will be widows andyour own children orphans.	23 Se farete loro del male, grideranno a me; io udirò il loro grido,
24 'If you lend money to any of my people, to anyone poor among you, you wil not play the usurer withhim: you will not demand interest from him.	24 s'accenderà il mio furore, e vi percoterò di spada; le vostre mogli rimarranno vedove, e pupilli i vostri figliuoli.
25 'If you take someone's cloak in pledge, you wil return it to him at sunset.	25 Se avrai prestato del danaro a qualche povero del mio popolo che abita con te, non lo tormenterai come un esattore, nè l'opprimerai con l'usure.
26 It is al the covering he has; it is the cloak he wraps his body in; what else wil he sleep in? If heappeals to me, I shall listen. At least with me he will find compassion!	26 Se avrai ricevuto in pegno dal tuo prossimo il suo mantello, glielo renderai prima del tramonto del sole;
27 'You wil not revile God, nor curse your people's leader.	27 perché è quello il solo indumento col quale ei cuopre la carne sua, e non ne ha altro per dormirvi; se griderà a me, io l'esaudirò, perché sono misericordioso.
28 'Do not be slow about making offerings from your abundance and your surplus. You wil give me thefirst-born of your children;	28 Non mormorerai degli uomini di Dio, e non maledirai un principe del tuo popolo.
29 you will do the same with your flocks and herds. For the first seven days the first-born wil stay withits mother; on the eighth day you wil give it to me.	29 Non indugerai a pagarmi le tue decime e le tue primizie. Offrirai a me il primogenito dei tuoi figliuoli.
30 'You must be people consecrated to me. You wil not eat the meat of anything in the countrysidesavaged by wild animals; you wil throw it to the dogs.'	30 Lo stesso farai anche dei bovi e degli armenti; sette giorni starà [il nuovo nato] con la madre sua, ed all'ottavo me l'offrirai.
	31 Voi sarete per me uomini santi. Di carne che le bestie abbiano già sbranata, non ne mangerete, ma la getterete ai cani.
