1 'If a thief is caught breaking in and is struck a mortal blow, his blood may not be avenged,	1 Se uno ruberà un bue, o una pecora, e l'avrà uccisa, o venduta, renderà cinque bovi per uno, e quattro pecore per una.
2 but if it happens after sunrise, his blood may be avenged. He wil make ful restitution; if he has not themeans, he will be sold to pay for what he has stolen.	2 Se un ladro è trovato a sforzare la porta, o a rompere la muraglia della casa, e ferito venga a morire, il feritore non sarà reo d’uccisione.
3 If the stolen animal is found alive in his possession, be it ox, donkey or animal from the flock, he wilpay back double.	3 Ma se ciò egli fa dopo che è nato il sole, egli è reo di omicidio, ed egli pure morrà. Se (il ladro) non avrà di che pagare il furto, sarà venduto.
4 'If anyone puts his animals out to graze in a field or vineyard and lets them graze in someone else'sfield, he wil make restitution for the part of the field that has been grazed on the basis of its yield. But if he haslet the whole field be grazed, he wil make restitution in proportion to the best crop of the field or vineyard.	4 Se il bue rubato, o l'asino, o la pecora sarà trovato vivo presso di lui, restituirà il doppio.
5 'If a fire breaks out, setting light to thorn bushes and burning stacks, standing corn or the field as aresult, the person who started the fire wil make ful restitution.	5 Se alcuno farà danno a un campo, o a una vigna, e lascerà andare il suo giumento a pascere l'altrui; renderà il meglio, che abbia nel proprio campo, o vigna secondo le stime del danno.
6 'If anyone entrusts money or goods to someone else's keeping and these are stolen from that person'shouse, the thief, if he can be discovered, wil repay double.	6 Se dilatandosi il fuoco si attacca alle spine, e si appicca ai covoni delle biade, o ai grani, che sono in piede ne' campi, pagherà il danno colui che accese il fuoco.
7 Should the thief not be discovered, the owner of the house will come into the presence of God, todeclare that he has not laid hands on the other person's property.	7 Se uno confiderà a un amico del denaro, o altra cosa da custodire, e questa sia rubata presso il depositario; trovatosi il ladro, questi renderà il doppio.
8 'In every case of law-breaking involving an ox, donkey, animal from the flock, clothing or lost propertyof any sort, the ownership of which is disputed, both parties wil lay their case before God. The party whom Godpronounces guilty wil pay back double to the other.	8 Se il ladro è ignoto, il padrone di casa comparirà dinanzi ai giudici, e farà giuramento di non aver messo la mano sulla roba del suo prossimo
9 'If anyone entrusts a donkey, ox, animal from the flock or any other animal to someone else's keeping,and it dies or breaks a limb or is carried off without anyone seeing,	9 Per defraudarlo di un bue, o di un asino, o di una pecora, o di un vestimento, o di qualunque cosa, che siasi perduta: la causa dell'uno e dell'altro anderà dinanzi ai giudici: e se questi Io condanneranno, renderà il doppio al suo prossimo.
10 an oath by Yahweh wil decide between the two parties whether the keeper has laid hands on theother's property or not. The owner wil take what remains, the keeper wil not have to make good the loss.	10 Se uno avrà dato in custodia al suo prossimo un asino, un bue, una pecora, o qualunque siasi giumento, e questo sia morto, o resti stroppiato, o portato via da' nemici, e nissuno abbia ciò veduto,
11 Only if the animal has been stolen from him, will he make restitution to the owner.	11 Si deverrà al giuramento, come quegli non ha posta la mano sulla roba del suo prossimo: e il padrone sì contenterà del giuramento, e quegli non sarà tenuto a restituzione.
12 If it has been savaged by a wild animal, he must bring the savaged remains of the animal asevidence, and wil then not have to make restitution.	12 Che se la cosa è stata rubata, indennizzerà il padrone.
13 'If anyone borrows an animal from someone else, and it breaks a limb or dies in the owner's absence,he wil make ful restitution.	13 Se (il giumento) fu divorato da una fiera, riporti al padrone il cadavere, e non farà altra restituzione.
14 But if the animal's owner has been present, he wil not have to make good the loss. If the owner hashired it out, he wil get the cost of its hire.	14 Chi alcuna di tali cose prenderà in prestito dal suo prossimo, è questa perisca, o resti stroppiata, non essendo presente il padrone, sarà astretto a far restituzione.
15 'If a man seduces a virgin who is not engaged to be married, he wil pay her bride-price and make herhis wife.	15 Ma se il padrone si troverà presente, non farà restituzione, e massimamente se l'uvea presa a nolo pagando l'uso, che ne faceva.
16 If her father absolutely refuses to let him have her, he will pay a sum equivalent to the bride-price of avirgin.	16 Se uno sedurrà una fanciulla, che non abbia ancora contratti sponsali, e dormirà con lei; la doterà, e la sposerà.
17 'You wil not al ow a sorceress to live.	17 Se il padre della fanciulla non vorrà dargliela, darà una somma di denaro secondo la somma della dote, che soglion ricevere le fanciulle.
18 'Anyone who has intercourse with an animal will be put to death.	18 Non lascerai vivere gli stregoni.
19 'Anyone who sacrifices to other gods wil be put under the curse of destruction.	19 Chi peccherà con una bestia, sarà messo a morte.
20 'You wil not molest or oppress aliens, for you yourselves were once aliens in Egypt.	20 Chi offerirà sacrifizio ad altri dei, fuori che al solo Signore, sarà ucciso.
21 You wil not il -treat widows or orphans;	21 Non farai torto, e non affliggerai il forestiero: perocché voi ancora foste stranieri nella terra d'Egitto.
22 if you il -treat them in any way and they make an appeal to me for help, I shal certainly hear theirappeal,	22 Non porterete danno alla vedova, e al pupillo.
23 my anger wil be roused and I shal put you to the sword; then your own wives will be widows andyour own children orphans.	23 Se gli offenderete, alzeranno a me le loro strida, e io esaudirò i loro clamori:
24 'If you lend money to any of my people, to anyone poor among you, you wil not play the usurer withhim: you will not demand interest from him.	24 E si accenderà il mio furore, ed io vi sterminerò colla spada, e le vostre mogli resteran vedove, e i figliuoli vostri pupilli.
25 'If you take someone's cloak in pledge, you wil return it to him at sunset.	25 Se presterai denaro al popolo mio povero, che abita con te, non lo vesserai come un esattore, né l'opprimerai coll'usure.
26 It is al the covering he has; it is the cloak he wraps his body in; what else wil he sleep in? If heappeals to me, I shall listen. At least with me he will find compassion!	26 Se riceverai in pegno dal tuo prossimo la veste, gliela renderai prima che il sol tramonti:
27 'You wil not revile God, nor curse your people's leader.	27 Perché questa sola egli ha per coprirsi, e porsi sopra la sua carne, e altra non ne ha, sotto di cui prender sonno. Se egli alzerà le sue grida verso di me, io lo esaudirò, perché sono misericordioso.
28 'Do not be slow about making offerings from your abundance and your surplus. You wil give me thefirst-born of your children;	28 Non dirai male de' giudici; e non maledirai il principe del popol tuo.
29 you will do the same with your flocks and herds. For the first seven days the first-born wil stay withits mother; on the eighth day you wil give it to me.	29 Non sarai lento a dare le tue decime, e le tue primizie: tu darai a me il primogenito de' tuoi figliuoli.
30 'You must be people consecrated to me. You wil not eat the meat of anything in the countrysidesavaged by wild animals; you wil throw it to the dogs.'	30 E lo stesso ancora farai de' bovi, e delle pecore: per sette dì stieno colla lor madre; l'ottavo giorno gli offerirai a me.
	31 Voi sarete uomini consacrati a me: non mangerete carne, che sia già stata gustata da bestie; ma la getterete ai cani.
