Exodus 22

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 'If a thief is caught breaking in and is struck a mortal blow, his blood may not be avenged,	1 Si le voleur surpris à percer un mur reçoit un coup mortel, son sang ne sera pas vengé.
2 but if it happens after sunrise, his blood may be avenged. He wil make ful restitution; if he has not themeans, he will be sold to pay for what he has stolen.	2 Mais si le soleil était déjà levé, son sang sera vengé. Il devra restituer, et s'il n'a pas de quoi, on levendra pour rembourser ce qu'il a volé.
3 If the stolen animal is found alive in his possession, be it ox, donkey or animal from the flock, he wilpay back double.	3 Si l'animal volé, boeuf, âne ou tête de petit bétail, est retrouvé vivant en sa possession, il restitueraau double.
4 'If anyone puts his animals out to graze in a field or vineyard and lets them graze in someone else'sfield, he wil make restitution for the part of the field that has been grazed on the basis of its yield. But if he haslet the whole field be grazed, he wil make restitution in proportion to the best crop of the field or vineyard.	4 "Si quelqu'un fait brouter un champ ou une vigne et laisse brouter le champ d'autrui, il restituera lapartie broutée de ce champ d'après ce qu'il rapporte. S'il a laissé brouter le champ entier, il restituera sur la basede la meilleure récolte du champ ou de la vigne.
5 'If a fire breaks out, setting light to thorn bushes and burning stacks, standing corn or the field as aresult, the person who started the fire wil make ful restitution.	5 Si un feu prend et rencontre des buissons épineux et qu'il consume meules, moissons ou champs,l'auteur de l'incendie restituera ce qui a brûlé.
6 'If anyone entrusts money or goods to someone else's keeping and these are stolen from that person'shouse, the thief, if he can be discovered, wil repay double.	6 Si quelqu'un donne en garde à un autre de l'argent ou des objets, et qu'on les vole chez celui-ci, levoleur, si on le découvre, devra restituer au double.
7 Should the thief not be discovered, the owner of the house will come into the presence of God, todeclare that he has not laid hands on the other person's property.	7 Si on ne découvre pas le voleur, le maître de la maison s'approchera de Dieu pour attester qu'il n'apas porté la main sur le bien de l'autre.
8 'In every case of law-breaking involving an ox, donkey, animal from the flock, clothing or lost propertyof any sort, the ownership of which is disputed, both parties wil lay their case before God. The party whom Godpronounces guilty wil pay back double to the other.	8 Dans toute cause litigieuse relative à un boeuf, à un âne, à une tête de petit bétail, à un vêtement ouà n'importe quel objet perdu dont on dit: C'est bien lui, le différend sera porté devant Dieu. Celui que Dieu auradéclaré coupable restituera le double à l'autre.
9 'If anyone entrusts a donkey, ox, animal from the flock or any other animal to someone else's keeping,and it dies or breaks a limb or is carried off without anyone seeing,	9 Si quelqu'un confie à la garde d'un autre un âne, un taureau, une tête de petit bétail ou tout autreanimal, et que la bête crève, se brise un membre ou est enlevée sans témoins,
10 an oath by Yahweh wil decide between the two parties whether the keeper has laid hands on theother's property or not. The owner wil take what remains, the keeper wil not have to make good the loss.	10 un serment par Yahvé décidera entre les deux parties si le gardien a porté la main sur le bien del'autre ou non. Le propriétaire prendra ce qui reste et le gardien n'aura pas à restituer.
11 Only if the animal has been stolen from him, will he make restitution to the owner.	11 Mais si l'animal volé se trouvait auprès de lui, il le restituera à son propriétaire.
12 If it has been savaged by a wild animal, he must bring the savaged remains of the animal asevidence, and wil then not have to make restitution.	12 Si l'animal est déchiqueté par une bête de proie, il apportera en témoignage l'animal déchiqueté etn'aura pas à restituer.
13 'If anyone borrows an animal from someone else, and it breaks a limb or dies in the owner's absence,he wil make ful restitution.	13 Si quelqu'un emprunte une bête à un autre et qu'elle se brise un membre ou crève en l'absence deson propriétaire, il devra restituer.
14 But if the animal's owner has been present, he wil not have to make good the loss. If the owner hashired it out, he wil get the cost of its hire.	14 Mais si le propriétaire est auprès de l'animal, il n'aura pas à restituer. Si le propriétaire est unloueur, il touchera son prix de louage.
15 'If a man seduces a virgin who is not engaged to be married, he wil pay her bride-price and make herhis wife.	15 "Si quelqu'un séduit une vierge non encore fiancée et couche avec elle, il versera le prix et laprendra pour femme.
16 If her father absolutely refuses to let him have her, he will pay a sum equivalent to the bride-price of avirgin.	16 Si son père refuse de la lui donner, il versera une somme équivalente au prix fixé pour les vierges.
17 'You wil not al ow a sorceress to live.	17 "Tu ne laisseras pas en vie la magicienne.
18 'Anyone who has intercourse with an animal will be put to death.	18 Quiconque s'accouple avec une bête sera mis à mort.
19 'Anyone who sacrifices to other gods wil be put under the curse of destruction.	19 Qui sacrifie à d'autres dieux sera voué à l'anathème.
20 'You wil not molest or oppress aliens, for you yourselves were once aliens in Egypt.	20 Tu ne molesteras pas l'étranger ni ne l'opprimeras car vous-mêmes avez été étrangers dans le paysd'Egypte.
21 You wil not il -treat widows or orphans;	21 Vous ne maltraiterez pas une veuve ni un orphelin.
22 if you il -treat them in any way and they make an appeal to me for help, I shal certainly hear theirappeal,	22 Si tu le maltraites et qu'il crie vers moi, j'écouterai son cri;
23 my anger wil be roused and I shal put you to the sword; then your own wives will be widows andyour own children orphans.	23 ma colère s'enflammera et je vous ferai périr par l'épée: vos femmes seront veuves et vos filsorphelins.
24 'If you lend money to any of my people, to anyone poor among you, you wil not play the usurer withhim: you will not demand interest from him.	24 Si tu prêtes de l'argent à un compatriote, à l'indigent qui est chez toi, tu ne te comporteras pasenvers lui comme un prêteur à gages, vous ne lui imposerez pas d'intérêts.
25 'If you take someone's cloak in pledge, you wil return it to him at sunset.	25 Si tu prends en gage le manteau de quelqu'un, tu le lui rendras au coucher du soleil.
26 It is al the covering he has; it is the cloak he wraps his body in; what else wil he sleep in? If heappeals to me, I shall listen. At least with me he will find compassion!	26 C'est sa seule couverture, c'est le manteau dont il enveloppe son corps, dans quoi se couchera-t-il?S'il crie vers moi je l'écouterai, car je suis compatissant, moi!
27 'You wil not revile God, nor curse your people's leader.	27 Tu ne blasphémeras pas Dieu ni ne maudiras un chef de ton peuple.
28 'Do not be slow about making offerings from your abundance and your surplus. You wil give me thefirst-born of your children;	28 "Ne diffère pas d'offrir de ton abondance et de ton surplus. Le premier-né de tes fils, tu me ledonneras.
29 you will do the same with your flocks and herds. For the first seven days the first-born wil stay withits mother; on the eighth day you wil give it to me.	29 Tu feras de même pour ton gros et ton petit bétail: pendant sept jours il restera avec sa mère, lehuitième jour tu me le donneras.
30 'You must be people consecrated to me. You wil not eat the meat of anything in the countrysidesavaged by wild animals; you wil throw it to the dogs.'	30 Vous serez pour moi des hommes saints. Vous ne mangerez pas la viande d'une bête déchiquetéepar un fauve dans la campagne, vous la jetterez aux chiens.
