Exodus 22

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 'If a thief is caught breaking in and is struck a mortal blow, his blood may not be avenged,	1 Si el ladrón, sorprendido en el momento de forzar una casa, es herido de muerte, no hay delito de homicidio.
2 but if it happens after sunrise, his blood may be avenged. He wil make ful restitution; if he has not themeans, he will be sold to pay for what he has stolen.	2 Pero si ya había salido el sol, entonces hay delito de homicidio. El ladrón está obligado a restituir la totalidad de lo robado; si no dispone de medios para hacerlo, deberá ser vendido para compensar por su robo.
3 If the stolen animal is found alive in his possession, be it ox, donkey or animal from the flock, he wilpay back double.	3 Si lo robado –un buey, un asno o una oveja– se encuentra vivo en su poder, tendrá que restituir el doble.
4 'If anyone puts his animals out to graze in a field or vineyard and lets them graze in someone else'sfield, he wil make restitution for the part of the field that has been grazed on the basis of its yield. But if he haslet the whole field be grazed, he wil make restitution in proportion to the best crop of the field or vineyard.	4 Si alguien hace pastar su ganado en un campo o una viña, y lo deja suelto de manera que este va a pastar también en campo ajeno, deberá indemnizar con los mejores productos de su campo y de su viña.
5 'If a fire breaks out, setting light to thorn bushes and burning stacks, standing corn or the field as aresult, the person who started the fire wil make ful restitution.	5 Si un fuego se propaga y alcanza los matorrales, y así se destruye la cosecha ya amontonada o la que aún no había sido segada o el campo, el causante del incendio deberá indemnizar.
6 'If anyone entrusts money or goods to someone else's keeping and these are stolen from that person'shouse, the thief, if he can be discovered, wil repay double.	6 Si un hombre entrega a otro en depósito dinero o algún objeto, y alguien los roba de la casa de este último, el ladrón, si es descubierto, restituirá el doble.
7 Should the thief not be discovered, the owner of the house will come into the presence of God, todeclare that he has not laid hands on the other person's property.	7 Si no se logra descubrir al ladrón, el dueño de la casa se presentará ante Dios para atestiguar que no ha puesto su mano sobre los bienes del otro.
8 'In every case of law-breaking involving an ox, donkey, animal from the flock, clothing or lost propertyof any sort, the ownership of which is disputed, both parties wil lay their case before God. The party whom Godpronounces guilty wil pay back double to the other.	8 En todo asunto delictivo referente a un buey, un asno, una oveja, un traje o cualquier objeto desaparecido, del cual su propietario pueda decir: «Indudablemente es este», el litigio será llevado ante Dios; y aquel a quien Dios declare culpable, restituirá al otro el doble.
9 'If anyone entrusts a donkey, ox, animal from the flock or any other animal to someone else's keeping,and it dies or breaks a limb or is carried off without anyone seeing,	9 Si alguien entrega a otra persona un asno, un buey, una oveja o cualquier otro animal para su custodia, y el animal muere, sufre una fractura o es sustraído en ausencia de testigos,
10 an oath by Yahweh wil decide between the two parties whether the keeper has laid hands on theother's property or not. The owner wil take what remains, the keeper wil not have to make good the loss.	10 el depositario deber[a jurar por el Señor que no ha puesto su mano sobre la propiedad ajena. El propietario aceptará el juramento, y aquel no estará obligado a indemnizar.
11 Only if the animal has been stolen from him, will he make restitution to the owner.	11 Pero si el animal fue robado estando presente el depositario, deberá indemnizar.
12 If it has been savaged by a wild animal, he must bring the savaged remains of the animal asevidence, and wil then not have to make restitution.	12 Si el animal ha sido despedazado por una fiera, traerá como testimonio los despojos y no tendrá que indemnizar por él.
13 'If anyone borrows an animal from someone else, and it breaks a limb or dies in the owner's absence,he wil make ful restitution.	13 Si alguien pide prestado un animal, y este sufre una fractura o muere en ausencia de su dueño, el que lo recibió en préstamo deberá indemnizar.
14 But if the animal's owner has been present, he wil not have to make good the loss. If the owner hashired it out, he wil get the cost of its hire.	14 Si su dueño estaba presente, no estará obligado a hacerlo. Si lo había alquilado, le pagara el precio del alquiler.
15 'If a man seduces a virgin who is not engaged to be married, he wil pay her bride-price and make herhis wife.	15 Si un hombre seduce a una mujer virgen que no está desposada y se acuesta con ella, deberá tomarla por esposa pagando el precio debido.
16 If her father absolutely refuses to let him have her, he will pay a sum equivalent to the bride-price of avirgin.	16 Si el padre de la joven se niega a dársela, el seductor pagará una suma equivalente al precio estipulado para casarse con una virgen.
17 'You wil not al ow a sorceress to live.	17 No dejarás vivir a la hechicera.
18 'Anyone who has intercourse with an animal will be put to death.	18 El que tenga trato sexual con una bestia será castigado con la muerte.
19 'Anyone who sacrifices to other gods wil be put under the curse of destruction.	19 El que ofrezca sacrificios a otro dios que no sea el Señor, será condenado al exterminio.
20 'You wil not molest or oppress aliens, for you yourselves were once aliens in Egypt.	20 No maltratarás al extranjero ni lo oprimirás, porque ustedes fueron extranjeros en Egipto.
21 You wil not il -treat widows or orphans;	21 No harás daño a la viuda ni al huérfano.
22 if you il -treat them in any way and they make an appeal to me for help, I shal certainly hear theirappeal,	22 Si les haces daño y ellos me piden auxilio, yo escucharé su clamor.
23 my anger wil be roused and I shal put you to the sword; then your own wives will be widows andyour own children orphans.	23 Entonces arderá mi ira, y yo los mataré a ustedes con la espada; sus mujeres quedará viudas, y sus hijos huérfanos.
24 'If you lend money to any of my people, to anyone poor among you, you wil not play the usurer withhim: you will not demand interest from him.	24 Si prestas dinero a un miembro de mi pueblo, al pobre que vive a tu lado, no te comportarás con él como un usurero, no le exigirás interés.
25 'If you take someone's cloak in pledge, you wil return it to him at sunset.	25 Si tomas en prenda el manto de tu prójimo, devuélveselo antes que se ponga el sol,
26 It is al the covering he has; it is the cloak he wraps his body in; what else wil he sleep in? If heappeals to me, I shall listen. At least with me he will find compassion!	26 porque ese es su único abrigo y el vestido de su cuerpo. De lo contrario, ¿con qué dormirá? Y si él me invoca, yo lo escucharé, porque soy compasivo.
27 'You wil not revile God, nor curse your people's leader.	27 No blasfemarás contra Dios, ni maldecirás a un jefe de tu pueblo.
28 'Do not be slow about making offerings from your abundance and your surplus. You wil give me thefirst-born of your children;	28 No demorarás en ofrecer las primicias de la cosecha y de la vendimia. Me darás a tu hijo primogénito.
29 you will do the same with your flocks and herds. For the first seven days the first-born wil stay withits mother; on the eighth day you wil give it to me.	29 Lo mismo deberás hacer con tu ganado mayor y tu ganado menor: el primogénito estará siete días con su madre, y al octavo día me lo darás.
30 'You must be people consecrated to me. You wil not eat the meat of anything in the countrysidesavaged by wild animals; you wil throw it to the dogs.'	30 Ustedes estarán consagrados a mí. No coman carne de un animal despedazado por una fiera, sino arrójenla a los perros.
