1 'If a thief is caught breaking in and is struck a mortal blow, his blood may not be avenged,	1 Ha éjszaka kapják rajta a tolvajt a ház betörése vagy aláásása közben, és az olyan sebet kap, hogy meghal: aki megölte, nem felelős a vérért.
2 but if it happens after sunrise, his blood may be avenged. He wil make ful restitution; if he has not themeans, he will be sold to pay for what he has stolen.	2 Ha azonban napkelte után tette, gyilkosságot követett el, és haljon meg ő maga is. Ha a tolvajnak nincs miből megtéríteni a lopást, el kell adni őt magát.
3 If the stolen animal is found alive in his possession, be it ox, donkey or animal from the flock, he wilpay back double.	3 Ha azt, amit ellopott, élve találják meg nála, akár ökör, akár szamár, akár juh: a kétszeresét térítse meg.
4 'If anyone puts his animals out to graze in a field or vineyard and lets them graze in someone else'sfield, he wil make restitution for the part of the field that has been grazed on the basis of its yield. But if he haslet the whole field be grazed, he wil make restitution in proportion to the best crop of the field or vineyard.	4 Ha valaki kárt tesz a mezőben vagy a szőlőben, azáltal, hogy jószágát a máséra ereszti legelni: mezejének és szőlőjének javával fizessen a megbecsült kár szerint.
5 'If a fire breaks out, setting light to thorn bushes and burning stacks, standing corn or the field as aresult, the person who started the fire wil make ful restitution.	5 Ha tűz támad, tövisbe kap, és megemészti az asztagokat vagy az álló gabonát a mezőn: térítse meg a kárt, aki a tüzet gyújtotta.
6 'If anyone entrusts money or goods to someone else's keeping and these are stolen from that person'shouse, the thief, if he can be discovered, wil repay double.	6 Ha valaki pénzt vagy ingóságot bíz felebarátjára megőrzés végett, s annak házából ellopják: ha a tolvaj megkerül, kétannyit térítsen meg.
7 Should the thief not be discovered, the owner of the house will come into the presence of God, todeclare that he has not laid hands on the other person's property.	7 Ha a tolvaj nem kerül meg, állítsák a ház gazdáját Isten elé, és esküdjék meg, hogy nem nyújtotta ki kezét felebarátja holmijára.
8 'In every case of law-breaking involving an ox, donkey, animal from the flock, clothing or lost propertyof any sort, the ownership of which is disputed, both parties wil lay their case before God. The party whom Godpronounces guilty wil pay back double to the other.	8 Csalárdság elkövetése ügyében, akár ökörről, akár szamárról, akár juhról, akár ruháról, akár bármiféle kártételről van szó: Isten elé kell vinni mindkét ember ügyét, s akit Isten elítél, az térítsen meg kétannyit felebarátjának.
9 'If anyone entrusts a donkey, ox, animal from the flock or any other animal to someone else's keeping,and it dies or breaks a limb or is carried off without anyone seeing,	9 Ha valakire szamarat, ökröt, juhot vagy bármiféle jószágot bíz felebarátja megőrzés végett, s az elhull, megsérül vagy az ellenség elhajtja, de senki sem látta:
10 an oath by Yahweh wil decide between the two parties whether the keeper has laid hands on theother's property or not. The owner wil take what remains, the keeper wil not have to make good the loss.	10 eskü bizonyítsa kettejük között, hogy nem nyújtotta ki kezét felebarátja jószágára, s a tulajdonos fogadja el az esküt, amazt pedig ne kötelezzék kártérítésre.
11 Only if the animal has been stolen from him, will he make restitution to the owner.	11 Ha azonban ellopták, térítse meg a kárt a tulajdonosnak.
12 If it has been savaged by a wild animal, he must bring the savaged remains of the animal asevidence, and wil then not have to make restitution.	12 Ha vad tépte szét: vigye el hozzá a széttépett állatot, és ne térítse meg.
13 'If anyone borrows an animal from someone else, and it breaks a limb or dies in the owner's absence,he wil make ful restitution.	13 Ha valaki kölcsön kér valami ilyesmit embertársától, s az megsérül vagy elhull: ha a tulajdonos nem volt jelen, akkor az illetőt kötelezzék a kártérítésre.
14 But if the animal's owner has been present, he wil not have to make good the loss. If the owner hashired it out, he wil get the cost of its hire.	14 Ha azonban a tulajdonos jelen volt, nem kell megtérítenie. Ha bérbe adták, csak a bért köteles megtéríteni.
15 'If a man seduces a virgin who is not engaged to be married, he wil pay her bride-price and make herhis wife.	15 Ha valaki elcsábít egy szűz lányt, aki még nem volt eljegyezve, és lefekszik vele: adja meg érte a jegyajándékot, és vegye feleségül.
16 If her father absolutely refuses to let him have her, he will pay a sum equivalent to the bride-price of avirgin.	16 Ha a szűz apja nem akarja odaadni, akkor is adja meg érte azt a pénzt, amit a szüzek jegyajándékul kapni szoktak.
17 'You wil not al ow a sorceress to live.	17 Varázslót ne hagyj életben.
18 'Anyone who has intercourse with an animal will be put to death.	18 Aki állattal közösül, halállal lakoljon.
19 'Anyone who sacrifices to other gods wil be put under the curse of destruction.	19 Aki az isteneknek áldozik, nem egyedül az Úrnak, azt meg kell ölni.
20 'You wil not molest or oppress aliens, for you yourselves were once aliens in Egypt.	20 A jövevényhez ne légy kegyetlen és ne sanyargasd, hiszen ti is jövevények voltatok Egyiptom földjén.
21 You wil not il -treat widows or orphans;	21 Az özvegyet vagy árvát ne nyomorgassátok.
22 if you il -treat them in any way and they make an appeal to me for help, I shal certainly hear theirappeal,	22 Ha sanyargatjátok őket, hozzám kiáltanak. Én meghallgatom kiáltásukat,
23 my anger wil be roused and I shal put you to the sword; then your own wives will be widows andyour own children orphans.	23 felizzik haragom, és megöllek titeket karddal, úgyhogy feleségeitek özvegyekké lesznek és a fiaitok árvákká.
24 'If you lend money to any of my people, to anyone poor among you, you wil not play the usurer withhim: you will not demand interest from him.	24 Ha pénzt adsz kölcsön az én népemből való szegénynek, aki közötted lakik, ne szorongasd, mint az uzsorás, és ne vess ki rá kamatot.
25 'If you take someone's cloak in pledge, you wil return it to him at sunset.	25 Ha zálogba vetted embertársad köpenyét, naplemente előtt add vissza neki.
26 It is al the covering he has; it is the cloak he wraps his body in; what else wil he sleep in? If heappeals to me, I shall listen. At least with me he will find compassion!	26 Hiszen az az egyetlen takarója, testének öltözete, és nincs egyebe, amiben alhatna. Ha hozzám kiált, meghallgatom, mert én irgalmas vagyok.
27 'You wil not revile God, nor curse your people's leader.	27 Istent ne rágalmazd, és néped fejedelmét ne átkozd.
28 'Do not be slow about making offerings from your abundance and your surplus. You wil give me thefirst-born of your children;	28 Tizedeidet és zsengéidet ne halogasd megadni. Fiaid közül az elsőszülöttet nekem add.
29 you will do the same with your flocks and herds. For the first seven days the first-born wil stay withits mother; on the eighth day you wil give it to me.	29 Hasonlóképp cselekedj marháddal és aprójószágoddal: hét napig maradjon anyjánál, a nyolcadik napon add nekem.
30 'You must be people consecrated to me. You wil not eat the meat of anything in the countrysidesavaged by wild animals; you wil throw it to the dogs.'	30 Szentek legyetek számomra! Mezőn széttépett állat húsából ne egyetek: a kutyának vessétek.
