1 'If a thief is caught breaking in and is struck a mortal blow, his blood may not be avenged,	1 Si un voleur surpris la nuit en train de percer le mur est frappé à mort, son sang ne sera pas vengé.
2 but if it happens after sunrise, his blood may be avenged. He wil make ful restitution; if he has not themeans, he will be sold to pay for what he has stolen.	2 Mais si le soleil était déjà levé, son sang sera vengé. Celui qui a volé devra rembourser, et s’il n’a pas de quoi payer, il sera vendu en échange de ce qu’il a volé.
3 If the stolen animal is found alive in his possession, be it ox, donkey or animal from the flock, he wilpay back double.	3 Si l’on retrouve chez lui ce qu’il a volé, que ce soit un bœuf, un âne ou un agneau, il rendra le double.
4 'If anyone puts his animals out to graze in a field or vineyard and lets them graze in someone else'sfield, he wil make restitution for the part of the field that has been grazed on the basis of its yield. But if he haslet the whole field be grazed, he wil make restitution in proportion to the best crop of the field or vineyard.	4 Si un homme laisse ses bêtes brouter dans son champ ou dans sa vigne et qu’elles broutent dans le champ d’un autre, il devra le dédommager selon ce que rapportait ce champ ou cette vigne.
5 'If a fire breaks out, setting light to thorn bushes and burning stacks, standing corn or the field as aresult, the person who started the fire wil make ful restitution.	5 Si un feu éclate, gagne les broussailles, et qu’une meule ou des épis ou un champ soient brûlés, celui qui a allumé l’incendie devra dédommager.
6 'If anyone entrusts money or goods to someone else's keeping and these are stolen from that person'shouse, the thief, if he can be discovered, wil repay double.	6 Si un homme donne à son prochain de l’argent ou des objets à garder dans sa maison, et qu’un vol y soit commis, le voleur, s’il est trouvé, rendra le double.
7 Should the thief not be discovered, the owner of the house will come into the presence of God, todeclare that he has not laid hands on the other person's property.	7 Mais si le voleur n’est pas retrouvé, le maître de la maison s’approchera de Dieu et jurera que ce n’est pas lui qui a volé le bien de son prochain.
8 'In every case of law-breaking involving an ox, donkey, animal from the flock, clothing or lost propertyof any sort, the ownership of which is disputed, both parties wil lay their case before God. The party whom Godpronounces guilty wil pay back double to the other.	8 Quelle que soit la chose volée, que ce soit un bœuf, un âne, un agneau, un vêtement ou toute autre chose, l’affaire sera portée devant Dieu et celui qui aura été condamné par Dieu rendra le double à son prochain.
9 'If anyone entrusts a donkey, ox, animal from the flock or any other animal to someone else's keeping,and it dies or breaks a limb or is carried off without anyone seeing,	9 Si un homme a donné en garde à son prochain un âne, ou un bœuf, ou une brebis, ou toute autre bête, et que l’animal est mort, ou a été blessé ou volé sans témoin,
10 an oath by Yahweh wil decide between the two parties whether the keeper has laid hands on theother's property or not. The owner wil take what remains, the keeper wil not have to make good the loss.	10 l’affaire sera réglée par un serment devant Yahvé. Celui qui gardait l’animal jurera qu’il n’a pas volé le bien de son prochain et le maître de l’animal se contentera du serment: l’autre n’aura pas à payer.
11 Only if the animal has been stolen from him, will he make restitution to the owner.	11 Mais si l’animal est trouvé en sa possession, il en donnera le prix à son maître.
12 If it has been savaged by a wild animal, he must bring the savaged remains of the animal asevidence, and wil then not have to make restitution.	12 Si l’animal a été déchiré par des fauves, il en donnera les preuves et n’aura pas à payer pour l’animal mis en pièces.
13 'If anyone borrows an animal from someone else, and it breaks a limb or dies in the owner's absence,he wil make ful restitution.	13 Si quelqu’un a emprunté à son prochain un animal, et que cet animal soit blessé ou meure en l’absence de son maître, celui qui l’a emprunté devra en payer le prix.
14 But if the animal's owner has been present, he wil not have to make good the loss. If the owner hashired it out, he wil get the cost of its hire.	14 Mais si le propriétaire de l’animal était sur place, il n’aura rien à payer, l’autre se contentera de la location de la bête.
15 'If a man seduces a virgin who is not engaged to be married, he wil pay her bride-price and make herhis wife.	15 Si un homme tombe amoureux d’une vierge qui n’est pas encore fiancée et couche avec elle, il en paiera le prix et elle sera sa femme.
16 If her father absolutely refuses to let him have her, he will pay a sum equivalent to the bride-price of avirgin.	16 Mais si son père refuse de la donner en mariage, l’autre versera en argent l’équivalent d’une dot.
17 'You wil not al ow a sorceress to live.	17 Tu ne laisseras pas vivre une sorcière.
18 'Anyone who has intercourse with an animal will be put to death.	18 Celui qui couche avec une bête sera mis à mort.
19 'Anyone who sacrifices to other gods wil be put under the curse of destruction.	19 Celui qui offre des sacrifices en l’honneur de dieux autres que Yahvé, sera mis à mort.
20 'You wil not molest or oppress aliens, for you yourselves were once aliens in Egypt.	20 Vous ne maltraiterez pas l’étranger et vous ne l’opprimerez pas, car vous avez été des étrangers en Égypte.
21 You wil not il -treat widows or orphans;	21 Vous ne maltraiterez pas la veuve ni l’orphelin.
22 if you il -treat them in any way and they make an appeal to me for help, I shal certainly hear theirappeal,	22 Si vous les maltraitez et qu’ils crient vers moi, j’entendrai leur cri.
23 my anger wil be roused and I shal put you to the sword; then your own wives will be widows andyour own children orphans.	23 Alors ma colère s’enflammera contre vous: je vous ferai périr par l’épée, vos femmes resteront veuves, et vos fils orphelins.
24 'If you lend money to any of my people, to anyone poor among you, you wil not play the usurer withhim: you will not demand interest from him.	24 Si tu prêtes de l’argent à quelqu’un de ton peuple, à un pauvre qui vit au milieu de vous, tu ne te conduiras pas envers lui comme un créancier, tu ne lui imposeras pas d’intérêts.
25 'If you take someone's cloak in pledge, you wil return it to him at sunset.	25 Si tu as pris en gage le manteau de ton prochain, tu le lui rendras au coucher du soleil,
26 It is al the covering he has; it is the cloak he wraps his body in; what else wil he sleep in? If heappeals to me, I shall listen. At least with me he will find compassion!	26 car il n’a pas d’autre couverture, rien d’autre que ce manteau pour se couvrir: et comment dormira-t-il? Si jamais il crie vers moi, je l’entendrai, car moi j’ai pitié.
27 'You wil not revile God, nor curse your people's leader.	27 Tu ne blasphèmeras pas le Nom de Dieu et tu ne maudiras pas le chef de ton peuple.
28 'Do not be slow about making offerings from your abundance and your surplus. You wil give me thefirst-born of your children;	28 Tu m’offriras sans tarder la sève de ton champ et le jus de ton pressoir; tu me donneras le premier-né de tes fils.
29 you will do the same with your flocks and herds. For the first seven days the first-born wil stay withits mother; on the eighth day you wil give it to me.	29 Tu feras de même pour ton bœuf et pour ton petit bétail: durant sept jours ils resteront avec la mère, et le huitième jour tu me les offriras.
30 'You must be people consecrated to me. You wil not eat the meat of anything in the countrysidesavaged by wild animals; you wil throw it to the dogs.'	30 Vous serez pour moi un peuple saint. Vous ne mangerez pas la viande d’une bête mise en pièces dans les champs, mais vous la donnerez aux chiens.
