1 Chronicles 15

1 After he had put up buildings for himself in the City of David, he prepared a place for the ark of Godand pitched a tent for it.	1 וַיַּעַשׂ־לֹו בָתִּים בְּעִיר דָּוִיד וַיָּכֶן מָקֹום לַאֲרֹון הָאֱלֹהִים וַיֶּט־לֹו אֹהֶל
2 David then said, 'No one but the Levites should carry the ark of God, since Yahweh has chosen themto carry the ark of Yahweh and to minister to him for ever.'	2 אָז אָמַר דָּוִיד לֹא לָשֵׂאת אֶת־אֲרֹון הָאֱלֹהִים כִּי אִם־הַלְוִיִּם כִּי־בָם ׀ בָּחַר יְהוָה לָשֵׂאת אֶת־אֲרֹון יְהוָה וּלְשָׁרְתֹו עַד־עֹולָם׃ ס
3 David then summoned al Israel to Jerusalem, to move the ark of Yahweh to the place which he hadprepared for it.	3 וַיַּקְהֵל דָּוִיד אֶת־כָּל־יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶל־יְרוּשָׁלִָם לְהַעֲלֹות אֶת־אֲרֹון יְהוָה אֶל־מְקֹומֹו אֲשֶׁר־הֵכִין לֹו
4 David also cal ed the sons of Aaron and the Levites together:	4 וַיֶּאֱסֹף דָּוִיד אֶת־בְּנֵי אַהֲרֹן וְאֶת־הַלְוִיִּם
5 of the sons of Kohath: Uriel the chief and his hundred and twenty kinsmen;	5 לִבְנֵי קְהָת אוּרִיאֵל הַשָּׂר וְאֶחָיו מֵאָה וְעֶשְׂרִים׃ ס
6 of the sons of Merari: Asaiah the chief and his two hundred and twenty kinsmen;	6 לִבְנֵי מְרָרִי עֲשָׂיָה הַשָּׂר וְאֶחָיו מָאתַיִם וְעֶשְׂרִים׃ ס
7 of the sons of Gershom: Joel the chief and his hundred and thirty kinsmen;	7 לִבְנֵי גֵּרְשֹׁום יֹואֵל הַשָּׂר וְאֶחָיו מֵאָה וּשְׁלֹשִׁים׃ ס
8 of the sons of Elizaphan: Shemaiah the chief and his two hundred kinsmen;	8 לִבְנֵי אֱלִיצָפָן שְׁמַעְיָה הַשָּׂר וְאֶחָיו מָאתָיִם׃ ס
9 of the sons of Hebron: Eliel the chief and eighty kinsmen;	9 לִבְנֵי חֶבְרֹון אֱלִיאֵל הַשָּׂר וְאֶחָיו שְׁמֹונִים׃ ס
10 of the sons of Uzziel: Amminadab the chief and his hundred and twelve kinsmen.	10 לִבְנֵי עֻזִּיאֵל עַמִּינָדָב הַשָּׂר וְאֶחָיו מֵאָה וּשְׁנֵים עָשָׂר׃ ס
11 David then sent for the priests Zadok and Abiathar, and the Levites Uriel, Asaiah, Joel, Shemaiah,Eliel and Amminadab.	11 וַיִּקְרָא דָוִיד לְצָדֹוק וּלְאֶבְיָתָר הַכֹּהֲנִים וְלַלְוִיִּם לְאוּרִיאֵל עֲשָׂיָה וְיֹואֵל שְׁמַעְיָה וֶאֱלִיאֵל וְעַמִּינָדָב
12 To them he said, 'You are the heads of the levitical families. Sanctify yourselves, you and yourkinsmen, so that you can move the ark of Yahweh, God of Israel, to the place which I have prepared for it.	12 וַיֹּאמֶר לָהֶם אַתֶּם רָאשֵׁי הָאָבֹות לַלְוִיִּם הִתְקַדְּשׁוּ אַתֶּם וַאֲחֵיכֶם וְהַעֲלִיתֶם אֵת אֲרֹון יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶל־הֲכִינֹותִי לֹו
13 Because you were not there the first time, Yahweh our God broke out at us because we did nothandle it properly.'	13 כִּי לְמַבָּרִאשֹׁונָה לֹא אַתֶּם פָּרַץ יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵינוּ בָּנוּ כִּי־לֹא דְרַשְׁנֻהוּ כַּמִּשְׁפָּט
14 So the priests and the Levites sanctified themselves, to move the ark of Yahweh, God of Israel,	14 וַיִּתְקַדְּשׁוּ הַכֹּהֲנִים וְהַלְוִיִּם לְהַעֲלֹות אֶת־אֲרֹון יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל
15 and the Levites carried the ark of God with the shafts on their shoulders, as Moses had ordered inaccordance with the word of Yahweh.	15 וַיִּשְׂאוּ בְנֵי־הַלְוִיִּם אֵת אֲרֹון הָאֱלֹהִים כַּאֲשֶׁר צִוָּה מֹשֶׁה כִּדְבַר יְהוָה בִּכְתֵפָם בַּמֹּטֹות עֲלֵיהֶם׃ פ
16 David also told the heads of the Levites to appoint their kinsmen as singers with the accompanimentof musical instruments, lyres, harps, and cymbals to play joyful y.	16 וַיֹּאמֶר דָּוִיד לְשָׂרֵי הַלְוִיִּם לְהַעֲמִיד אֶת־אֲחֵיהֶם הַמְשֹׁרְרִים בִּכְלֵי־שִׁיר נְבָלִים וְכִנֹּרֹות וּמְצִלְתָּיִם מַשְׁמִיעִים לְהָרִים־בְּקֹול לְשִׂמְחָה׃ פ
17 The Levites then appointed Heman son of Joel, Asaph son of Berechiah, one of his brothers, Ethanson of Kushaiah, one of their Merarite kinsmen;	17 וַיַּעֲמִידוּ הַלְוִיִּם אֵת הֵימָן בֶּן־יֹואֵל וּמִן־אֶחָיו אָסָף בֶּן־בֶּרֶכְיָהוּ ס וּמִן־בְּנֵי מְרָרִי אֲחֵיהֶם אֵיתָן בֶּן־קוּשָׁיָהוּ
18 and with them their kinsmen of the second rank: Zechariah, Uzziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab,Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, and Obed-Edom and Jehiel the gatekeepers.	18 וְעִמָּהֶם אֲחֵיהֶם הַמִּשְׁנִים זְכַרְיָהוּ בֵּן וְיַעֲזִיאֵל וּשְׁמִירָמֹות וִיחִיאֵל ׀ וְעֻנִּי אֱלִיאָב וּבְנָיָהוּ וּמַעֲשֵׂיָהוּ וּמַתִּתְיָהוּ וֶאֱלִיפְלֵהוּ וּמִקְנֵיָהוּ וְעֹבֵד אֱדֹם וִיעִיאֵל הַשֹּׁעֲרִים
19 The singers, Heman, Asaph and Ethan, were to play the bronze cymbals.	19 וְהַמְשֹׁרְרִים הֵימָן אָסָף וְאֵיתָן בִּמְצִלְתַּיִם נְחֹשֶׁת לְהַשְׁמִיעַ
20 Zechariah, Uzziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Maaseiah and Benaiah were to play the lyre.	20 וּזְכַרְיָה וַעֲזִיאֵל וּשְׁמִירָמֹות וִיחִיאֵל וְעֻנִּי וֶאֱלִיאָב וּמַעֲשֵׂיָהוּ וּבְנָיָהוּ בִּנְבָלִים עַל־עֲלָמֹות
21 Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, Obed-Edom, Jehiel and Azaziah, giving the beat, were to play theharp.	21 וּמַתִּתְיָהוּ וֶאֱלִיפְלֵהוּ וּמִקְנֵיָהוּ וְעֹבֵד אֱדֹם וִיעִיאֵל וַעֲזַזְיָהוּ בְּכִנֹּרֹות עַל־הַשְּׁמִינִית לְנַצֵּחַ
22 Chenaniah, the levitical director of transport was in charge of the transport, being skilful at it.	22 וּכְנַנְיָהוּ שַׂר־הַלְוִיִּם בְּמַשָּׂא יָסֹר בַּמַּשָּׂא כִּי מֵבִין הוּא
23 Berechiah and Elkanah were gatekeepers for the ark.	23 וּבֶרֶכְיָה וְאֶלְקָנָה שֹׁעֲרִים לָאָרֹון
24 The priests Shebaniah, Joshaphat, Nethanel, Amasai, Zechariah, Benaiah and Eliezer blew trumpetsbefore the ark of God, while Obed-Edom and Jehiah were also gatekeepers for the ark.	24 וּשְׁבַנְיָהוּ וְיֹושָׁפָט וּנְתַנְאֵל וַעֲמָשַׂי וּזְכַרְיָהוּ וּבְנָיָהוּ וֶאֱלִיעֶזֶר הַכֹּהֲנִים [מַחֲצֹצְרִים כ] (מַחְצְרִים ק) בַּחֲצֹצְרֹות לִפְנֵי אֲרֹון הָאֱלֹהִים וְעֹבֵד אֱדֹם וִיחִיָּה שֹׁעֲרִים לָאָרֹון
25 David, the elders of Israel and the commanders of the thousands accordingly went, amid greatrejoicing, to bring the ark of the covenant of Yahweh up from Obed-Edom's house,	25 וַיְהִי דָוִיד וְזִקְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וְשָׂרֵי הָאֲלָפִים הַהֹלְכִים לְהַעֲלֹות אֶת־אֲרֹון בְּרִית־יְהוָה מִן־בֵּית עֹבֵד־אֱדֹם בְּשִׂמְחָה׃ ס
26 and since God was helping the Levites who carried the ark of the covenant of Yahweh, theysacrificed seven bul s and seven rams.	26 וַיְהִי בֶּעְזֹר הָאֱלֹהִים אֶת־הַלְוִיִּם נֹשְׂאֵי אֲרֹון בְּרִית־יְהוָה וַיִּזְבְּחוּ שִׁבְעָה־פָרִים וְשִׁבְעָה אֵילִים
27 David, al the Levites who carried the ark, the singers and Chenaniah, director of transport, worecloaks of fine linen. David also wore a linen ephod.	27 וְדָוִיד מְכֻרְבָּל ׀ בִּמְעִיל בּוּץ וְכָל־הַלְוִיִּם הַנֹּשְׂאִים אֶת־הָאָרֹון וְהַמְשֹׁרְרִים וּכְנַנְיָה הַשַּׂר הַמַּשָּׂא הַמְשֹׁרְרִים וְעַל־דָּוִיד אֵפֹוד בָּד
28 Thus, with war-cries and the sounding of the horn, the trumpets and the cymbals, and the music oflyres and harps, al Israel transported the ark of the covenant of Yahweh.	28 וְכָל־יִשְׂרָאֵל מַעֲלִים אֶת־אֲרֹון בְּרִית־יְהוָה בִּתְרוּעָה וּבְקֹול שֹׁופָר וּבַחֲצֹצְרֹות וּבִמְצִלְתָּיִם מַשְׁמִעִים בִּנְבָלִים וְכִנֹּרֹות
29 Now, as the ark of the covenant of Yahweh entered the City of David, Michal daughter of Saul waswatching from the window and, when she saw King David dancing and playing, the sight of him filled her withcontempt.	29 וַיְהִי אֲרֹון בְּרִית יְהוָה בָּא עַד־עִיר דָּוִיד וּמִיכַל בַּת־שָׁאוּל נִשְׁקְפָה ׀ בְּעַד הַחַלֹּון וַתֵּרֶא אֶת־הַמֶּלֶךְ דָּוִיד מְרַקֵּד וּמְשַׂחֵק וַתִּבֶז לֹו בְּלִבָּהּ׃ פ
