1 Chronicles 15

1 After he had put up buildings for himself in the City of David, he prepared a place for the ark of Godand pitched a tent for it.	1 ויעש לו בתים בעיר דויד ויכן מקום לארון האלהים ויט לו אהל
2 David then said, 'No one but the Levites should carry the ark of God, since Yahweh has chosen themto carry the ark of Yahweh and to minister to him for ever.'	2 אז אמר דויד לא לשאת את ארון האלהים כי אם הלוים כי בם בחר יהוה לשאת את ארון יהוה ולשרתו עד עולם
3 David then summoned al Israel to Jerusalem, to move the ark of Yahweh to the place which he hadprepared for it.	3 ויקהל דויד את כל ישראל אל ירושלם להעלות את ארון יהוה אל מקומו אשר הכין לו
4 David also cal ed the sons of Aaron and the Levites together:	4 ויאסף דויד את בני אהרן ואת הלוים
5 of the sons of Kohath: Uriel the chief and his hundred and twenty kinsmen;	5 לבני קהת אוריאל השר ואחיו מאה ועשרים
6 of the sons of Merari: Asaiah the chief and his two hundred and twenty kinsmen;	6 לבני מררי עשיה השר ואחיו מאתים ועשרים
7 of the sons of Gershom: Joel the chief and his hundred and thirty kinsmen;	7 לבני גרשום יואל השר ואחיו מאה ושלשים
8 of the sons of Elizaphan: Shemaiah the chief and his two hundred kinsmen;	8 לבני אליצפן שמעיה השר ואחיו מאתים
9 of the sons of Hebron: Eliel the chief and eighty kinsmen;	9 לבני חברון אליאל השר ואחיו שמונים
10 of the sons of Uzziel: Amminadab the chief and his hundred and twelve kinsmen.	10 לבני עזיאל עמינדב השר ואחיו מאה ושנים עשר
11 David then sent for the priests Zadok and Abiathar, and the Levites Uriel, Asaiah, Joel, Shemaiah,Eliel and Amminadab.	11 ויקרא דויד לצדוק ולאביתר הכהנים וללוים לאוריאל עשיה ויואל שמעיה ואליאל ועמינדב
12 To them he said, 'You are the heads of the levitical families. Sanctify yourselves, you and yourkinsmen, so that you can move the ark of Yahweh, God of Israel, to the place which I have prepared for it.	12 ויאמר להם אתם ראשי האבות ללוים התקדשו אתם ואחיכם והעליתם את ארון יהוה אלהי ישראל אל הכינותי לו
13 Because you were not there the first time, Yahweh our God broke out at us because we did nothandle it properly.'	13 כי למבראשונה לא אתם פרץ יהוה אלהינו בנו כי לא דרשנהו כמשפט
14 So the priests and the Levites sanctified themselves, to move the ark of Yahweh, God of Israel,	14 ויתקדשו הכהנים והלוים להעלות את ארון יהוה אלהי ישראל
15 and the Levites carried the ark of God with the shafts on their shoulders, as Moses had ordered inaccordance with the word of Yahweh.	15 וישאו בני הלוים את ארון האלהים כאשר צוה משה כדבר יהוה בכתפם במטות עליהם
16 David also told the heads of the Levites to appoint their kinsmen as singers with the accompanimentof musical instruments, lyres, harps, and cymbals to play joyful y.	16 ויאמר דויד לשרי הלוים להעמיד את אחיהם המשררים בכלי שיר נבלים וכנרות ומצלתים משמיעים להרים בקול לשמחה
17 The Levites then appointed Heman son of Joel, Asaph son of Berechiah, one of his brothers, Ethanson of Kushaiah, one of their Merarite kinsmen;	17 ויעמידו הלוים את הימן בן יואל ומן אחיו אסף בן ברכיהו ומן בני מררי אחיהם איתן בן קושיהו
18 and with them their kinsmen of the second rank: Zechariah, Uzziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab,Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, and Obed-Edom and Jehiel the gatekeepers.	18 ועמהם אחיהם המשנים זכריהו בן ויעזיאל ושמירמות ויחיאל ועני אליאב ובניהו ומעשיהו ומתתיהו ואליפלהו ומקניהו ועבד אדם ויעיאל השערים
19 The singers, Heman, Asaph and Ethan, were to play the bronze cymbals.	19 והמשררים הימן אסף ואיתן במצלתים נחשת להשמיע
20 Zechariah, Uzziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Maaseiah and Benaiah were to play the lyre.	20 וזכריה ועזיאל ושמירמות ויחיאל ועני ואליאב ומעשיהו ובניהו בנבלים על עלמות
21 Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, Obed-Edom, Jehiel and Azaziah, giving the beat, were to play theharp.	21 ומתתיהו ואליפלהו ומקניהו ועבד אדם ויעיאל ועזזיהו בכנרות על השמינית לנצח
22 Chenaniah, the levitical director of transport was in charge of the transport, being skilful at it.	22 וכנניהו שר הלוים במשא יסר במשא כי מבין הוא
23 Berechiah and Elkanah were gatekeepers for the ark.	23 וברכיה ואלקנה שערים לארון
24 The priests Shebaniah, Joshaphat, Nethanel, Amasai, Zechariah, Benaiah and Eliezer blew trumpetsbefore the ark of God, while Obed-Edom and Jehiah were also gatekeepers for the ark.	24 ושבניהו ויושפט ונתנאל ועמשי וזכריהו ובניהו ואליעזר הכהנים מחצצרים בחצצרות לפני ארון האלהים ועבד אדם ויחיה שערים לארון
25 David, the elders of Israel and the commanders of the thousands accordingly went, amid greatrejoicing, to bring the ark of the covenant of Yahweh up from Obed-Edom's house,	25 ויהי דויד וזקני ישראל ושרי האלפים ההלכים להעלות את ארון ברית יהוה מן בית עבד אדם בשמחה
26 and since God was helping the Levites who carried the ark of the covenant of Yahweh, theysacrificed seven bul s and seven rams.	26 ויהי בעזר האלהים את הלוים נשאי ארון ברית יהוה ויזבחו שבעה פרים ושבעה אילים
27 David, al the Levites who carried the ark, the singers and Chenaniah, director of transport, worecloaks of fine linen. David also wore a linen ephod.	27 ודויד מכרבל במעיל בוץ וכל הלוים הנשאים את הארון והמשררים וכנניה השר המשא המשררים ועל דויד אפוד בד
28 Thus, with war-cries and the sounding of the horn, the trumpets and the cymbals, and the music oflyres and harps, al Israel transported the ark of the covenant of Yahweh.	28 וכל ישראל מעלים את ארון ברית יהוה בתרועה ובקול שופר ובחצצרות ובמצלתים משמעים בנבלים וכנרות
29 Now, as the ark of the covenant of Yahweh entered the City of David, Michal daughter of Saul waswatching from the window and, when she saw King David dancing and playing, the sight of him filled her withcontempt.	29 ויהי ארון ברית יהוה בא עד עיר דויד ומיכל בת שאול נשקפה בעד החלון ותרא את המלך דויד מרקד ומשחק ותבז לו בלבה
