2 Kings 8

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 So Isaac summoned Jacob and blessed him; and he gave him this order: 'You are not to marry any ofthe Canaanite women.
2 Go off to Paddan-Aram, the home of Bethuel your mother's father, and there choose a wife foryourself from the daughters of Laban your mother's brother.	2 Lève-toi! Va en Paddân-Aram chez Bétuel, le père de ta mère, et choisis-toi une femme de là-bas,parmi les filles de Laban, le frère de ta mère.
3 May El Shaddai bless you; may he make you fruitful and make you multiply so that you become agroup of nations.	3 Qu'El Shaddaï te bénisse, qu'il te fasse fructifier et multiplier pour que tu deviennes une assembléede peuples.
4 May he grant you the blessing of Abraham, you and your descendants after you, so that one day youmay own the country where you are now living as a stranger -- which God gave to Abraham.'	4 Qu'il t'accorde, ainsi qu'à ta descendance, la bénédiction d'Abraham, pour que tu possèdes le paysdans lequel tu séjournes et que Dieu a donné à Abraham."
5 Then Isaac sent Jacob away, and Jacob went to Paddan-Aram, to Laban son of Bethuel theAramaean and brother of Rebekah the mother of Jacob and Esau.	5 Isaac congédia Jacob et celui-ci partit en Paddân-Aram chez Laban, fils de Bétuel l'Araméen etfrère de Rébecca, la mère de Jacob et d'Esaü.
6 When Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob and sent him to Paddan-Aram to choose a wife there,and that in blessing him he had given him this order: 'You are not to choose a wife from the Canaanite women,'	6 Esaü vit qu'Isaac avait béni Jacob et l'avait envoyé en Paddân-Aram pour y prendre femme, etqu'en le bénissant il lui avait fait ce commandement: "Ne prends pas une femme parmi les filles de Canaan."
7 and that, in obedience to his father and mother, Jacob had gone to Paddan-Aram,	7 Et Jacob avait obéi à son père et à sa mère et était parti en Paddân-Aram.
8 Esau then realised how much his father Isaac disapproved of the Canaanite women.	8 Esaü comprit que les filles de Canaan étaient mal vues de son père Isaac
9 So Esau went to Ishmael and chose for a wife, in addition to the wives he had, Mahalath daughter ofAbraham's son Ishmael and sister of Nebaioth.	9 et il alla chez Ismaël et prit pour femme -- en plus de celles qu'il avait -- Mahalat, fille d'Ismaël, lefils d'Abraham, et sœur de Nebayot.
10 Jacob left Beersheba and set out for Haran.	10 Jacob quitta Bersabée et partit pour Harân.
11 When he had reached a certain place, he stopped there for the night, since the sun had set. Takingone of the stones of that place, he made it his pil ow and lay down where he was.	11 Il arriva d'aventure en un certain lieu et il y passa la nuit, car le soleil s'était couché. Il prit une despierres du lieu, la mit sous sa tête et dormit en ce lieu.
12 He had a dream: there was a ladder, planted on the ground with its top reaching to heaven; andGod's angels were going up and down on it.	12 Il eut un songe: Voilà qu'une échelle était dressée sur la terre et que son sommet atteignait le ciel,et des anges de Dieu y montaient et descendaient!
13 And there was Yahweh, standing beside him and saying, 'I, Yahweh, am the God of Abraham yourfather, and the God of Isaac. The ground on which you are lying I shall give to you and your descendants.	13 Voilà que Yahvé se tenait devant lui et dit: "Je suis Yahvé, le Dieu d'Abraham ton ancêtre et leDieu d'Isaac. La terre sur laquelle tu es couché, je la donne à toi et à ta descendance.
14 Your descendants wil be as plentiful as the dust on the ground; you wil spread out to west and east,to north and south, and al clans on earth wil bless themselves by you and your descendants.	14 Ta descendance deviendra nombreuse comme la poussière du sol, tu déborderas à l'occident et àl'orient, au septentrion et au midi, et tous les clans de la terre se béniront par toi et par ta descendance.
15 Be sure, I am with you; I shal keep you safe wherever you go, and bring you back to this country, forI shal never desert you until I have done what I have promised you.'	15 Je suis avec toi, je te garderai partout où tu iras et te ramènerai en ce pays, car je net'abandonnerai pas tant que je n'aie accompli ce que je t'ai promis."
16 Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, 'Truly, Yahweh is in this place and I did not know!'	16 Jacob s'éveilla de son sommeil et dit: "En vérité, Yahvé est en ce lieu et je ne le savais pas!"
17 He was afraid and said, 'How awe-inspiring this place is! This is nothing less than the abode of God,and this is the gate of heaven!'	17 Il eut peur et dit: "Que ce lieu est redoutable! Ce n'est rien de moins qu'une maison de Dieu et laporte du ciel!"
18 Early next morning, Jacob took the stone he had used for his pillow, and set it up as a pil ar, pouringoil over the top of it.	18 Levé de bon matin, il prit la pierre qui lui avait servi de chevet, il la dressa comme une stèle etrépandit de l'huile sur son sommet.
19 He named the place Bethel, but before that the town had been cal ed Luz.	19 A ce lieu, il donna le nom de Béthel, mais auparavant la ville s'appelait Luz.
20 Jacob then made this vow, 'If God remains with me and keeps me safe on this journey I am making,if he gives me food to eat and clothes to wear,	20 Jacob fit ce vœu: "Si Dieu est avec moi et me garde en la route où je vais, s'il me donne du pain àmanger et des habits pour me vêtir,
21 and if I come home safe to my father's home, then Yahweh shal be my God.	21 si je reviens sain et sauf chez mon père, alors Yahvé sera mon Dieu
22 This stone I have set up as a pil ar is to be a house of God, and I shal faithful y pay you a tenth partof everything you give me.'	22 et cette pierre que j'ai dressée comme une stèle sera une maison de Dieu, et de tout ce que tu medonneras je te payeraifidèlement la dîme."
