1 Kings 22

1 There was a lul of three years, with no fighting between Aram and Israel.	1 Passarono tre anni senza guerra tra la Siria e Israele.
2 Then, in the third year, Jehoshaphat king of Judah paid a visit to the king of Israel.	2 Ma il terzo anno, essendo Giosafat re di Giuda andato a trovare il re d'Israele,
3 The king of Israel said to his officers, 'You are aware that Ramoth in Gilead belongs to us? And yet wedo nothing to wrest it away from the king of Aram.'	3 questi disse ai suoi servi: « Non sapete che Ramot Galaad è nostra? Perchè non ci curiamo di toglierla al re di Siria? »
4 He said to Jehoshaphat, 'Wil you come with me to attack Ramoth in Gilead?' Jehoshaphat replied tothe king of Israel, 'I will be as you, my men as yours, my horses as yours.'	4 Poi disse a Giosafat: « Verresti tu con me a combattere contro Ramot Galaad? »
5 Jehoshaphat, however, said to the king of Israel, 'First, please enquire what the word of Yahweh is.'	5 Giosafat rispose al re d'Israele: « Tu sei quel che son io; il mio popolo e il tuo sono una medesima cosa, la mia cavalleria è la tua cavalleria. Però, aggiunse Giosafat al re d'Israele, ti prego di consultare oggi la parola del Signore ».
6 The king of Israel then cal ed the prophets together, about four hundred of them. 'Should I go andattack Ramoth in Gilead,' he asked, 'or should I hold back?' 'Go ahead,' they replied, 'for Yahweh has alreadygiven it to the king.'	6 Allora il re d'Israele fece radunare i profeti, in numero di circa quattrocento, e disse loro: « Debbo andare a combattere contro Ramot Galaad, o non muovermi? » Essi risposero: « Va: il Signore la darà nelle mani del re ».
7 Jehoshaphat, however, said, 'Is there no other prophet of Yahweh here, so that we can enquirethrough him?'	7 Ma Giosafat disse: « Non v'è qui nessun profeta del Signore da consultare per mezzo di lui? »
8 The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, 'There is one more man through whom we can consultYahweh, but I hate him because he never has a favourable prophecy for me, only unfavourable ones; he isMicaiah son of Imlah.' 'I hope the king's words are unjustified,' said Jehoshaphat.	8 Il re d'Israele rispose a Giosafat: «E' rimasto un uomo per il quale possiamo consultare il Signore; ma io non lo posso patire, perchè invece di profetizzarmi del bene, mi profetizza del male: egli è Michea figlio di Iemla ». Giosafat gli disse: « O re, non parlare in questa maniera ».
9 The king of Israel then summoned a court official and said, 'Bring Micaiah son of Imlah immediately.'	9 Allora il re d'Israele, chiamato un eunuco, gli disse: « Fa venir subito Michea figlio di Iemla ».
10 The king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah were sitting each on his throne, wearing their robes,in an open space just outside the gate of Samaria, with al the prophets in a state of ecstasy before them.	10 Il re d'Israele e Giosafat re di Giuda sedevano, ciascuno sul suo trono, vestiti con regale magnificenza, nella piazza vicina alla porta di Samaria, e tutti i profeti profetavano alla loro presenza.
11 Zedekiah son of Kenaanah, who had made himself some iron horns, said, 'Yahweh says, "With hornslike these you wil gore the Aramaeans til you make an end of them." '	11 Anzi, Sedecia, figlio di Canaana, fattosi dei corni di ferro, si mise a dire: « Così dice il Signore: Con questi butterai all'aria la Siria, finché tu non l'abbia distrutta ».
12 And all the prophets cried ecstatical y in the same vein, saying, 'March on Ramoth in Gilead! Success is sure, for Yahweh has already given it to the king!'	12 E tutti i profeti profetavano nella stessa maniera, dicendo: « Sali a Ramot Galaad, va a vincere; il Signore la darà nelle mani del re ».
13 The messenger who had gone to summon Micaiah said to him, 'Look here, what the prophets aresaying is uniformly favourable to the king. I hope you wil say the same as they do and speak favourably.'	13 Il messo che era andato a chiamare Michea gli disse nel parlare: « Ecco che le parole dei profeti annunziano concordemente buone cose al re: sia adunque il tuo parlare simile al loro e predici del bene! »
14 Micaiah said, 'As Yahweh lives, I shal speak as Yahweh tel s me!'	14 Michea gli rispose: « Viva il Signore! Qualunque cosa mi dirà il Signore, quella io annunzierò ».
15 When he came to the king, the king said, 'Micaiah, should we go and attack Ramoth in Gilead, orshould we hold back?' He replied, 'Go ahead! Success is sure, for Yahweh has already given it to the king!'	15 Giunto che fu davanti al re, il re gli disse: « Michea, dobbiamo noi andare contro Ramot Galaad o star fermi? » Michea gli rispose: « Va pure, va felicemente, e il Signore la darà nelle mani del re ».
16 The king then said, 'How often must I put you on oath to tell me nothing but the truth in the name ofYahweh?'	16 Ma il re gli disse: « Ti scongiuro più e più volte di non dirmi se non ciò che è vero nel nome del Signore ».
17 Then he spoke out: I saw al Israel scattered on the mountains like sheep without a shepherd. AndYahweh said, 'These have no master, let them all go safely home!'	17 Michea allora disse: « Ho veduto tutto Israele disperso per le montagne come pecore senza pastore; e il Signore ha detto: Costoro non han padrone : se ne torni ciascuno in pace a casa sua».
18 At this the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, 'Did I not tell you that he never gives me favourableprophecies, but only unfavourable ones?'	18 Il re d'Israele disse a Giosafat: « Non te l'avevo detto che non mi profetizza del bene; ma sempre del male ? »
19 Micaiah went on, 'Now listen to the word of Yahweh. I saw Yahweh seated on his throne with thewhole array of heaven standing by him, on his right and on his left.	19 Ma Michea continuò a dire: « Or dunque ascolta la parola del Signore: Io ho veduto il Signore seduto sopra il suo trono; tutto l'esercito del cielo gli stava d'intorno, a destra e a sinistra.
20 Yahweh said, "Who will entice Ahab into marching to his death at Ramoth in Gilead?" At which someanswered one way, and some another.	20 Il Signore disse: Chi andrà a ingannare Acab re d'Israele, affinchè salga a Ramot Galaad a morire? Chi disse una cosa e chi un'altra.
21 A spirit then came forward and stood before Yahweh and said, "I wil entice him."	21 Ma ecco uscire uno spirito, presentarsi al Signore e dire: Andrò io a ingannarlo. E il Signore a lui: Come?
22 "How?" Yahweh asked. He replied, "I shal go and be a deceptive spirit in the mouths of al hisprophets." Yahweh said, "You wil succeed in enticing him. Go and do it."	22 E lo spirito: Io uscirò fuori, e sarò spirito di menzogna nella bocca di tutti i suoi profeti. Il Signore disse: Tu lo ingannerai, e prevarrai: va pure a far come hai detto.
23 And now, you see, Yahweh has put a deceptive spirit into the mouths of al your prophets here, for infact Yahweh has pronounced disaster on you.'	23 Ecco dunque che il Signore ha posto uno spirito di menzogna nella bocca di tutti i tuoi profeti qui presenti; ma il Signore ha pronunziate sciagure contro di te ».
24 Zedekiah son of Chenaanah then came up, struck Micaiah on the cheek and said, 'Which way didYahweh's spirit leave me, to speak to you?'	24 Allora Sedecia figlio di Canaana, accostatosi a Michea, lo percosse sulla guancia, dicendo: « Lo Spirito del Signore ha dunque abbandonato me per parlare a te? »
25 'That is what you will find out,' Micaiah retorted, 'the day you go from room to room, trying to hide.'	25 Michea rispose: « Lo vedrai in quel giorno in cui tu fuggirai da una ad un'altra camera per nasconderti ».
26 The king of Israel said, 'Seize Micaiah and hand him over to Amon, governor of the city, and Joash,the king's son,	26 Il re d'Israele disse: « Prendete Michea che deve stare presso Amon governatore della città, e presso Gioas figlio di Amelec,
27 and say, "These are the king's orders: Put this man in prison and feed him on nothing but bread andwater until I am safely home." '	27 a cui direte: Queste cose dice il re: Mettete questo uomo in prigione e tenetelo a pane di tribolazione e ad acqua d'angoscia, finché io non son ritornato in pace ».
28 Micaiah said, 'If you ever do get home safely, Yahweh has not spoken through me.'	28 Michea disse: « Se tu morrai in pace, il Signore non avrà parlato per mezzo di me ». Ed aggiunse: « Popoli tutti, ascoltate ».
29 The king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah marched on Ramoth in Gilead.	29 Il re d'Israele salì adunque con Giosafat re di Giuda contro Ramot Galaad.
30 The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, 'I shal disguise myself to go into battle, but you put on yourrobes.' So the king of Israel disguised himself and went into battle.	30 Il re d'Israele disse a Giosafat : « Prendi le armi, ed entra nella battaglia colle tue vesti ». Ma il re d'Israele entrò nella mischia, cambiate le vesti,
31 Now, the king of Aram had given his chariot commanders the fol owing order, 'Do not attack anyoneof whatever rank, except the king of Israel.'	31 Or il re di Siria aveva dato quest'ordine ai trentadue comandanti dei suoi carri: « Voi non combatterete contro nessuno, piccolo o grande che sia, ma soltanto contro il re d'Israele ».
32 So, when the chariot commanders saw Jehoshaphat, they thought, 'That is obviously the king ofIsrael,' and surrounded him to attack. But when Jehoshaphat shouted his war cry	32 Quando adunque i comandanti dei carri ebbero visto Giosafat, pensando che fosse il re d'Israele, lo attaccarono con tutto l'impeto; ma avendo Giosafat dato un grido,
33 the chariot commanders, realising that he was not the king of Israel, broke off their pursuit.	33 i comandanti dei carri, riconosciuto che non era il re d'Israele, lo lasciarono.
34 Someone, however, drawing his bow without any special aim, shot the king of Israel between thejoints of his armour. 'Turn about!' said the king to his charioteer. 'Get me out of the fighting; I am col apsing.'	34 Intanto un cert'uomo senza alcuna mira, teso il suo arco, scoccò una freccia che per caso andò a colpire il re d'Israele tra il polmone e lo stomaco. Allora egli disse al suo cocchiere: « Volta e menami fuor dell'esercito, perchè son gravemente ferito ».
35 But the battle grew fiercer as the day went on and the king had to be held upright in his chariot facingthe Aramaeans, the blood from the wound running into the bottom of the chariot, until in the evening he died.	35 Ma la battaglia allora infieriva, e il re d'Israele restò sul cocchio contro i Siri, e morì sulla sera e il sangue della piaga colava nel cavo del cocchio.
36 At sundown a shout ran through the ranks, 'Every man back to his town, every man back to hiscountry!	36 Prima che il sole tramontasse, l'araldo andò a suonare la tromba per tutto l'esercito e a dire: « Ognuno ritorni alla sua città e alla sua terra ».
37 The king is dead.' He was taken to Samaria and in Samaria the king was buried.	37 Essendo adunque morto il re, fu portato a Samaria e sepolto a Samaria.
38 They washed the chariot at the Pool of Samaria; the dogs licked up the blood, and the prostituteswashed in it, in accordance with the word which Yahweh had spoken.	38 Lavarono il suo cocchio ed anche le redini nella piscina di Samaria, e i cani leccarono il suo sangue, secondo la parola detta dal Signore.
39 The rest of the history of Ahab, his entire career, the ivory house he erected, al the towns he built, isthis not recorded in the Book of the Annals of the Kings of Israel?	39 Il resto degli atti di Acab, tutto quello ch'egli fece, la casa d'avorio che fabbricò, tutte le città che edificò, non son tutte queste cose scritte nel libro delle cronache dei re d'Israele?
40 When Ahab fel asleep with his ancestors, his son Ahaziah succeeded him.	40 Acab si addormentò coi suoi padri e gli successe nel regno il suo figlio Ocozia.
41 Jehoshaphat son of Asa became king of Judah in the fourth year of Ahab king of Israel.	41 Giosafat figlio di Asa cominciò a regnare sopra Giuda l'anno quarto di Acab re d'Israele.
42 Jehoshaphat was thirty-five years old when he came to the throne, and he reigned for twenty-fiveyears in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Azubah daughter of Shilhi.	42 Aveva trentacinque anni quando cominciò a regnare, e regnò venticinque anni in Gerusalemme. La sua madre si chiamava Azuba, figlia di Salai.
43 In every way he followed the example of his father Asa undeviatingly, doing what is pleasing toYahweh.	43 Egli camminò per tutte le vie di Asa suo padre, senza allontanarsene, e fece ciò ch'era giusto al cospetto del Signore;
44 The high places, however, were not abolished; the people stil offered sacrifice and incense on thehigh places.	44 però non tolse gli alti luoghi, sui quali il popolo sacrificava ancora e bruciava incenso.
45 Jehoshaphat was at peace with the king of Israel.	45 Giosafat stette in pace col re d'Israele.
46 The rest of the history of Jehoshaphat, the valour he showed, the wars he waged, is this not recordedin the Book of the Annals of the Kings of Judah?	46 Il resto degli atti di Giosafat, le opere che fece, le sue battaglie, tutte queste cose non sono scritte nel libro delle cronache dei re di Giuda?

50 Ahaziah son of Ahab then proposed to Jehoshaphat, 'Let my men go to sea with yours.' ButJehoshaphat would not agree.	50 Allora Ocozia figlio di Acab disse a Giosafat: « Vadano i miei servi coi tuoi servi sui navigli ». Ma Giosafat non volle.
51 When Jehoshaphat fel asleep with his ancestors he was buried in the City of his ancestor, David; hisson Jehoram succeeded him.	51 Giosafat si addormentò coi suoi padri, e fu sepolto con essi nella città di David suo padre e gli successe nel regno Ioram suo figlio.
52 Ahaziah son of Ahab became king of Israel in Samaria in the seventeenth year of Jehoshaphat king ofJudah, and reigned over Israel for two years.	52 Ocozia figlio di Acab cominciò a regnare sopra Israele, in Samaria, l'anno diciassettesimo di Giosafat re di Giuda, e regnò sopra Israele per due anni.
53 He did what is displeasing to Yahweh, by following the example of his father and mother, and ofJeroboam son of Nebat who had led Israel into sin.	53 Egli fece il male nel cospetto del Signore, camminò nella via di suo padre e di sua madre, e nella via di Geroboamo figlio di Nabat, il quale fece peccare Israele.
