1 There was a lul of three years, with no fighting between Aram and Israel.	1 Tre anni adunque passarono senza guerra tralla Siria, e Israele.
2 Then, in the third year, Jehoshaphat king of Judah paid a visit to the king of Israel.	2 Ma il terzo anno Josaphat re di Giuda andò a trovare il re d'Israele.
3 The king of Israel said to his officers, 'You are aware that Ramoth in Gilead belongs to us? And yet wedo nothing to wrest it away from the king of Aram.'	3 Or il re d'Israele avea detto a' suoi servi: Non sapete voi, che Ramoth di Galaad è nostra, e noi trascuriamo di levarla di mano al re di Siria?
4 He said to Jehoshaphat, 'Wil you come with me to attack Ramoth in Gilead?' Jehoshaphat replied tothe king of Israel, 'I will be as you, my men as yours, my horses as yours.'	4 Egli perciò disse a Josaphat: Sarai tu con me a portar la guerra a Ramoth di Galaad?
5 Jehoshaphat, however, said to the king of Israel, 'First, please enquire what the word of Yahweh is.'	5 E Josaphat disse al re d'Israele: Quel, che son io, lo se' tu: il popol mio, e il popol tuo sono una stessa cosa: e i miei soldati a cavallo son tuoi. E soggiunse Josaphat al re d'Israele: Consulta, ti prego, oggi il Signore.
6 The king of Israel then cal ed the prophets together, about four hundred of them. 'Should I go andattack Ramoth in Gilead,' he asked, 'or should I hold back?' 'Go ahead,' they replied, 'for Yahweh has alreadygiven it to the king.'	6 Raunò pertanto il re d'Israele i profeti in numero di circa quattrocento, e disse loro: Debb'io andare a far guerra a Ramoth di Galaad, o starmene tranquillo? E quelli risposero: Va,che il Signore daralla nelle mani del re.
7 Jehoshaphat, however, said, 'Is there no other prophet of Yahweh here, so that we can enquirethrough him?'	7 Ma Josaphat disse: Non v'ha egli qui nissun profeta del Signore, affine di consultare per mezzo di esso?
8 The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, 'There is one more man through whom we can consultYahweh, but I hate him because he never has a favourable prophecy for me, only unfavourable ones; he isMicaiah son of Imlah.' 'I hope the king's words are unjustified,' said Jehoshaphat.	8 E disse il Re d'Israele a Josaphat: E rimase un uomo, per mezzo di cui possiamo interrogare il Signore; ma io l'ho in aversione, perchè non mi predice nulla di buono, ma sì del male: egli è Michea figliuolo di Jemla. Rispose a lui Josaphat: Non parlar cosi, o re.
9 The king of Israel then summoned a court official and said, 'Bring Micaiah son of Imlah immediately.'	9 Il re d'Israele pertanto chiamò un eunuco, e dissegli: Va presto, e conduci Michea figliuolo di Jemla.
10 The king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah were sitting each on his throne, wearing their robes,in an open space just outside the gate of Samaria, with al the prophets in a state of ecstasy before them.	10 Or il re d'Israele, e Josaphat re di Giuda sedevano ciascuno sul loro trono vestiti alla reale, nella piazza vicina alla porta di Samaria, e tutti i profeti profetavano dinanzi ad essi.
11 Zedekiah son of Kenaanah, who had made himself some iron horns, said, 'Yahweh says, "With hornslike these you wil gore the Aramaeans til you make an end of them." '	11 Oltre a ciò Sedecia figliuolo di Chanaana si fece de' corni di ferro, e disse: Queste cose dice il Signore: Con questi tu metterai in Scompiglio la Siria, sino che la abbi distrutta.
12 And all the prophets cried ecstatical y in the same vein, saying, 'March on Ramoth in Gilead! Success is sure, for Yahweh has already given it to the king!'	12 E tutti i profeti allo stesso modo profetavano, dicendo: Va a Ramoth di Galaad, va felicemente, e il Signore daralla nelle mani del re.
13 The messenger who had gone to summon Micaiah said to him, 'Look here, what the prophets aresaying is uniformly favourable to the king. I hope you wil say the same as they do and speak favourably.'	13 Or il messo, che era andato a chiamare Michea, parlò a lui, e disse: Sappi, che i profeti tutti d'accordo colle loro parole annunziano felicità al re: sia adunque il tuo parlare simile al loro, e predici buoni successi.
14 Micaiah said, 'As Yahweh lives, I shal speak as Yahweh tel s me!'	14 E Michea disse a lui: Viva il Signore: qualunque cosa mi dirà il Signore, quella io ridirò.
15 When he came to the king, the king said, 'Micaiah, should we go and attack Ramoth in Gilead, orshould we hold back?' He replied, 'Go ahead! Success is sure, for Yahweh has already given it to the king!'	15 Giunse pertanto dinanzi al re, e il re gli disse: Michea, dobbiam noi andare a portar la guerra contro Ramoth di Galaad, ovvero restar tranquilli? E quegli rispose a lui: Va pure, va felicemente, e il Signore daralla in potere del re.
16 The king then said, 'How often must I put you on oath to tell me nothing but the truth in the name ofYahweh?'	16 E il re gli disse: Ti scongiuro una, e due volte nel nome del Signore, che tu non mi dica se non la verità.
17 Then he spoke out: I saw al Israel scattered on the mountains like sheep without a shepherd. AndYahweh said, 'These have no master, let them all go safely home!'	17 E quegli disse: Ho veduto tutto Israele disperso pelle montagne, come tante pecore senza pastore: e il Signore ha detto: Costoro non hanno un signore: se ne torni ciascuno in pace a casa sua.
18 At this the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, 'Did I not tell you that he never gives me favourableprophecies, but only unfavourable ones?'	18 E il re d'Israele disse a Josaphat: Non te l'ho io detto, che egli non mi profetizza del bene, ma sempre del male?
19 Micaiah went on, 'Now listen to the word of Yahweh. I saw Yahweh seated on his throne with thewhole array of heaven standing by him, on his right and on his left.	19 E quegli soggiunse, e disse: Per questo ascolta la parola del Signore: Io ho veduto il Signore, che sedeva sopra il suo trono, e tutta la milizia celeste, che gli stava attorno da destra, e di sinistra:
20 Yahweh said, "Who will entice Ahab into marching to his death at Ramoth in Gilead?" At which someanswered one way, and some another.	20 E il Signore disse: Chi ingannerà Achab re d'Israele, affinchè vada, e perisca a Ramoth di Galaad? E uno disse una cosa, e l'altro un' altra.
21 A spirit then came forward and stood before Yahweh and said, "I wil entice him."	21 Ma uno spirito andò, e si presentò dinanzi al Signore, e disse: Io lo ingannerò. E il Signore disse a costui:E come?
22 "How?" Yahweh asked. He replied, "I shal go and be a deceptive spirit in the mouths of al hisprophets." Yahweh said, "You wil succeed in enticing him. Go and do it."	22 E quegli disse: Io anderò, e sarò spirito di menzogna nelle bocche di tutti i profeti di lui. E il Signore disse: Lo ingannerai, e avrai tuo intento: va, e fa cosi.
23 And now, you see, Yahweh has put a deceptive spirit into the mouths of al your prophets here, for infact Yahweh has pronounced disaster on you.'	23 Ora pertanto vedi, come il Signore ha posto lo spirito di menzogna in bocca di tutti i tuoi profeti, che son qui, e il Signore ha pronunziate sciagure contro di te.
24 Zedekiah son of Chenaanah then came up, struck Micaiah on the cheek and said, 'Which way didYahweh's spirit leave me, to speak to you?'	24 Allor Sedecia figliuolo di Chanaana si accostò, e diede uno schiaffo a Michea, e disse: Me adunque ha abbandonato lo Spirito del Signore, e a te ha parlato?
25 'That is what you will find out,' Micaiah retorted, 'the day you go from room to room, trying to hide.'	25 E Michea disse: Te ne accorgerai in quel giorno, quando entrerai da una in un'altra camera, per nasconderti.
26 The king of Israel said, 'Seize Micaiah and hand him over to Amon, governor of the city, and Joash,the king's son,	26 E disse il re d'Israele: Prendete Michea, ed egli stia sotto la custodia di Amon principe della città, e di Gioas figliuolo di Amalech,
27 and say, "These are the king's orders: Put this man in prison and feed him on nothing but bread andwater until I am safely home." '	27 E dite loro: Queste cose dice il re: Mettete quest'uomo in prigione, e alimentatelo con pane di tribolazione, e con acqua di afflizione, per sino a tanto ch'io torni colla vittoria.
28 Micaiah said, 'If you ever do get home safely, Yahweh has not spoken through me.'	28 E Michea disse: Se tu tornerai colla vittoria, il Signore non avrà par lato per bocca mia. E soggiunse: Popoli tutti, poneteci mente.
29 The king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah marched on Ramoth in Gilead.	29 Si mosse adunque il re d'Israele,e Josaphat re di Giuda contro Ramothdi Galaad.
30 The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, 'I shal disguise myself to go into battle, but you put on yourrobes.' So the king of Israel disguised himself and went into battle.	30 Disse adunque il re d'Israele a Josaphat: Prendi le tue armi, ed entra in battaglia vestito delle tue vesti: ma il re d'Israele cambiò di vestito, ed entrò nella mischia.
31 Now, the king of Aram had given his chariot commanders the fol owing order, 'Do not attack anyoneof whatever rank, except the king of Israel.'	31 Ora il re di Siria avea detto a' trentadue capitani de' suoi cocchi: Voi non combatterete contro veruno o piccolo, o grande, ma contro il solo re d'Israele
32 So, when the chariot commanders saw Jehoshaphat, they thought, 'That is obviously the king ofIsrael,' and surrounded him to attack. But when Jehoshaphat shouted his war cry	32 Quindi i capitani de' cocchi aven do veduto Josaphat, si pensarono, ch'ei fosse il re d'Israele, e si scagliarono contro di lui per combatterlo, e Josaphat diede uno strido.
33 the chariot commanders, realising that he was not the king of Israel, broke off their pursuit.	33 E i capitani de' cocchi riconobbero ch'ei non era il re d'Israele, e lo lasciarono stare.
34 Someone, however, drawing his bow without any special aim, shot the king of Israel between thejoints of his armour. 'Turn about!' said the king to his charioteer. 'Get me out of the fighting; I am col apsing.'	34 Ma un uomo avendo teso il suo arco, scoccò a caso la freccia, e portò l'accidente, che egli ferì il re d'Israele tral polmone, e lo stomaco; onde egli disse al suo cocchiere: Volgi indietro, e menami fuor dell'esercito, perocché io sono ferito gravemente.
35 But the battle grew fiercer as the day went on and the king had to be held upright in his chariot facingthe Aramaeans, the blood from the wound running into the bottom of the chariot, until in the evening he died.	35 Si combattè adunque in quel giorno, e il re d'Israele se ne stava sul suo cocchio volto inverso de' Siri, e morì sulla sera: scorrendo il sangue dalla piaga nella pedana del cocchio.
36 At sundown a shout ran through the ranks, 'Every man back to his town, every man back to hiscountry!	36 E prima che il sol tramontasse, un araldo suonò la tromba per tutto l'esercito, avvisando, che ciascuno se ne tornasse alla sua città, e alla sua terra.
37 The king is dead.' He was taken to Samaria and in Samaria the king was buried.	37 Ora il re si morì, e fu portato a Samaria: e fu sepolto in Samaria.
38 They washed the chariot at the Pool of Samaria; the dogs licked up the blood, and the prostituteswashed in it, in accordance with the word which Yahweh had spoken.	38 E lavarano il suo cocchio, e lavaron le redini alla peschiera di Samaria, e i cani leccarono il suo sangue, secondo la parola detta dal Signore.
39 The rest of the history of Ahab, his entire career, the ivory house he erected, al the towns he built, isthis not recorded in the Book of the Annals of the Kings of Israel?	39 Il resto poi delle azioni di Achab, e tutto quello, che egli operò, e la casa di avorio, ch'ei fabbricò, e tutte le città, ch'ei fondò, tutte queste, cose non son elleno scritte nel diario dei re d'Israele?
40 When Ahab fel asleep with his ancestors, his son Ahaziah succeeded him.	40 Achab pertanto si addormentò co' padri suoi, e Ochozia suo figliuolo gli succedette nel regno.
41 Jehoshaphat son of Asa became king of Judah in the fourth year of Ahab king of Israel.	41 E Josaphat figliuole di Asa avea cominciato a regnare sopra Giuda l'anno quarto di Achab re a Israele.
42 Jehoshaphat was thirty-five years old when he came to the throne, and he reigned for twenty-fiveyears in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Azubah daughter of Shilhi.	42 Egli avea trentacinque anni allor ché cominciò a regnare, e regnò venticinque anni a Gerusalemme: sua madre chiamavasi Azuba figliuola di Salai.
43 In every way he followed the example of his father Asa undeviatingly, doing what is pleasing toYahweh.	43 Ed egli battè in tutto le vie di Asa suo padre, né mai torse da queste, e fece quello, che era giusto dinanzi al Signore.
44 The high places, however, were not abolished; the people stil offered sacrifice and incense on thehigh places.	44 Egli però non tolse via i luoghi eccelsi: perocché il popolo sacrificava tutt' ora, e bruciava incenso ne' luoghi eccelsi.
45 Jehoshaphat was at peace with the king of Israel.	45 E Josaphat stette in pace col re d'Israele.
46 The rest of the history of Jehoshaphat, the valour he showed, the wars he waged, is this not recordedin the Book of the Annals of the Kings of Judah?	46 Il resto poi delle azioni di Josaphat, e le opere fatte da lui, e le sue battaglie, non son elleno scritte nel diario de' fatti dei re di Giuda?

51 When Jehoshaphat fel asleep with his ancestors he was buried in the City of his ancestor, David; hisson Jehoram succeeded him.	51 E Josaphat si addormentò co' padri suoi, e fu sepolto con essi nella città di Davidde suo padre: e Joram suo figliuòlo gli succedette nel regno.
52 Ahaziah son of Ahab became king of Israel in Samaria in the seventeenth year of Jehoshaphat king ofJudah, and reigned over Israel for two years.	52 E Ochozia figliuolo di Achab avea principiato a regnare sopra Israele in Samaria, l'anno diciassettesimo di Josaphat re di Giuda, e regnò sopra Israele per due anni.
53 He did what is displeasing to Yahweh, by following the example of his father and mother, and ofJeroboam son of Nebat who had led Israel into sin.	53 Ed egli fece il male nel cospetto del Signore, e seguì le tracce di suo padre, e di sua madre, e le tracce di Jeroboam figliuolo di Nabath il quale indusse Israele a peccare,
