1 There was a lul of three years, with no fighting between Aram and Israel.	1 - Passarono adunque tre anni senza che vi fosse guerra tra la Siria ed Israele.
2 Then, in the third year, Jehoshaphat king of Judah paid a visit to the king of Israel.	2 Al terzo anno però Josafat, re di Giuda, venne dal re d'Israele.
3 The king of Israel said to his officers, 'You are aware that Ramoth in Gilead belongs to us? And yet wedo nothing to wrest it away from the king of Aram.'	3 (Il re d'Israele disse ai suoi servi: «Non sapete voi che Ramot di Galaad è nostra e che abbiamo trascurato di toglierla dalle mani del re di Siria?»).
4 He said to Jehoshaphat, 'Wil you come with me to attack Ramoth in Gilead?' Jehoshaphat replied tothe king of Israel, 'I will be as you, my men as yours, my horses as yours.'	4 Disse perciò a Josafat: «Verresti con me a combattere in Ramot di Galaad?».
5 Jehoshaphat, however, said to the king of Israel, 'First, please enquire what the word of Yahweh is.'	5 Rispose Josafat al re d'Israele: «Quel che sono io, lo sei anche tu. Il mio popolo e il tuo popolo sono una cosa sola e i miei cavalieri sono i tuoi cavalieri». Poi Josafat disse al re d'Israele: «Consulta, te ne prego, oggi la parola del Signore».
6 The king of Israel then cal ed the prophets together, about four hundred of them. 'Should I go andattack Ramoth in Gilead,' he asked, 'or should I hold back?' 'Go ahead,' they replied, 'for Yahweh has alreadygiven it to the king.'	6 Il re d'Israele riunì i profeti, circa quattrocento, e disse loro: «Devo io andare in Ramot di Galaad a combattere o starmene quieto?». Essi risposero: «Va' e il Signore la darà nelle mani del re».
7 Jehoshaphat, however, said, 'Is there no other prophet of Yahweh here, so that we can enquirethrough him?'	7 Disse allora Josafat: «Non havvi qui qualche profeta del Signore da interrogare?».
8 The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, 'There is one more man through whom we can consultYahweh, but I hate him because he never has a favourable prophecy for me, only unfavourable ones; he isMicaiah son of Imlah.' 'I hope the king's words are unjustified,' said Jehoshaphat.	8 Disse il re di Israele a Josafat: «Ne è restato uno solo e per mezzo suo noi possiamo interrogare il Signore: ma io lo odio, perchè non mi annunzia mai nulla di buono, ma soltanto del male, Michea figliuolo di Jemla». Ma Josafat rispose così: «Non parlare a questo modo, o re».
9 The king of Israel then summoned a court official and said, 'Bring Micaiah son of Imlah immediately.'	9 Chiamò adunque il re d'Israele un eunuco e gli disse: «Fa' venire subito Michea figlio di Jemla».
10 The king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah were sitting each on his throne, wearing their robes,in an open space just outside the gate of Samaria, with al the prophets in a state of ecstasy before them.	10 Il re d'Israele e Josafat, re di Giuda, stavano seduti ciascuno sul suo trono, rivestiti dei loro abiti regali, nell'aia che è all'ingresso della porta di Samaria e tutti i profeti profetavano al loro cospetto.
11 Zedekiah son of Kenaanah, who had made himself some iron horns, said, 'Yahweh says, "With hornslike these you wil gore the Aramaeans til you make an end of them." '	11 Sedecia figliuolo di Canaana si era fatto fare dei corni di ferro, e diceva: «Così dice il Signore: - Con questi tu agiterai la Siria, sino a che non l'abbia distrutta -».
12 And all the prophets cried ecstatical y in the same vein, saying, 'March on Ramoth in Gilead! Success is sure, for Yahweh has already given it to the king!'	12 Similmente profetavano gli altri profeti, dicendo: «Ascendi a Ramot di Galaad e vattene sicuro. Il Signore la darà nelle mani del re».
13 The messenger who had gone to summon Micaiah said to him, 'Look here, what the prophets aresaying is uniformly favourable to the king. I hope you wil say the same as they do and speak favourably.'	13 Il messo che era andato a chiamare Michea, gli parlò così: «Ecco i profeti ad una voce predicono al re cose felici: anche la tua parola sia simile alla loro e annunzia del bene!».
14 Micaiah said, 'As Yahweh lives, I shal speak as Yahweh tel s me!'	14 Michea gli rispose: «Viva il Signore! qualsiasi cosa dirà a me il Signore, io dirò».
15 When he came to the king, the king said, 'Micaiah, should we go and attack Ramoth in Gilead, orshould we hold back?' He replied, 'Go ahead! Success is sure, for Yahweh has already given it to the king!'	15 Venuto dinanzi al re, questi gli disse: «Michea, dobbiamo noi andare a Ramot di Galaad a combattere o dobbiamo restare?». Michea gli rispose: «Ascendi e vai pure liberamente e il Signore la darà nella mani del re».
16 The king then said, 'How often must I put you on oath to tell me nothing but the truth in the name ofYahweh?'	16 E il re gli disse: «Ti scongiuro una volta e due volte di dirmi soltanto ciò che è vero nel nome del Signore».
17 Then he spoke out: I saw al Israel scattered on the mountains like sheep without a shepherd. AndYahweh said, 'These have no master, let them all go safely home!'	17 Michea allora soggiunse: «Vidi tutto Israele disperso sulle montagne, come pecore senza pastore, e il Signore ha detto: - Costoro non hanno più padrone, ritorni ciascuno in pace alla sua casa -».
18 At this the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, 'Did I not tell you that he never gives me favourableprophecies, but only unfavourable ones?'	18 (Disse allora il re d'Israele a Josafat: «Non ti ho io detto che costui non mi preannunzia mai nulla di bene, ma sempre del male?»).
19 Micaiah went on, 'Now listen to the word of Yahweh. I saw Yahweh seated on his throne with thewhole array of heaven standing by him, on his right and on his left.	19 Ma Michea soggiunse: «Ascolta dunque la parola del Signore: Vidi il Signore sedere sopra il suo trono e tutta l'armata dei cieli stare presso di lui, chi a destra e chi a sinistra;
20 Yahweh said, "Who will entice Ahab into marching to his death at Ramoth in Gilead?" At which someanswered one way, and some another.	20 e disse il Signore: - Chi trarrà in inganno Acab, re d'Israele, per farlo salire e farlo cadere in Ramot di Galaad? - E uno disse una cosa, e l'altro un'altra.
21 A spirit then came forward and stood before Yahweh and said, "I wil entice him."	21 Si fece allora innanzi uno spirito e, messosi al cospetto del Signore, disse: - Io lo trarrò in inganno. - E il Signore gli domandò: - Con qual mezzo? -
22 "How?" Yahweh asked. He replied, "I shal go and be a deceptive spirit in the mouths of al hisprophets." Yahweh said, "You wil succeed in enticing him. Go and do it."	22 Ed egli rispose: - Uscirò e sarò spirito di menzogna nella bocca di tutti i profeti di lui. - Ed il Signore disse: - Tu lo trarrai in inganno e otterrai l'intento; vai pure, e fa' così. -
23 And now, you see, Yahweh has put a deceptive spirit into the mouths of al your prophets here, for infact Yahweh has pronounced disaster on you.'	23 Ora adunque il Signore ha messo uno spirito di menzogna nella bocca di tutti i profeti, che sono qui, e il Signore ha annunziato sciagure contro di te».
24 Zedekiah son of Chenaanah then came up, struck Micaiah on the cheek and said, 'Which way didYahweh's spirit leave me, to speak to you?'	24 Allora Sedecia figlio di Canaana si accostò e diede uno schiaffo a Michea e disse: «Dunque lo spirito del Signore ha lasciato me per parlare a te solo?».
25 'That is what you will find out,' Micaiah retorted, 'the day you go from room to room, trying to hide.'	25 Disse Michea: «Tu lo vedrai nel giorno in cui entrerai da una camera all'altra per nasconderti».
26 The king of Israel said, 'Seize Micaiah and hand him over to Amon, governor of the city, and Joash,the king's son,	26 Disse allora il re d'Israele: «Prendete Michea e resti presso Amon prefetto della città e presso Joas figlio di Amelec
27 and say, "These are the king's orders: Put this man in prison and feed him on nothing but bread andwater until I am safely home." '	27 e dite loro: - Questo è volere del re: Cacciate costui in prigione e mantenetelo col pane della tribolazione e coll'acqua della tristezza, finchè io non sia ritornato in pace -».
28 Micaiah said, 'If you ever do get home safely, Yahweh has not spoken through me.'	28 Ma Michea soggiunse: «Se tu tornerai in pace, il Signore non avrà parlato per mia bocca», poi soggiunse: «Udite, o popoli tutti».
29 The king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah marched on Ramoth in Gilead.	29 Ascese pertanto il re d'Israele e Josafat re di Giuda in Ramot di Galaad.
30 The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, 'I shal disguise myself to go into battle, but you put on yourrobes.' So the king of Israel disguised himself and went into battle.	30 Il re d'Israele disse a Josafat: «Mettiti l'armatura ed entra nel combattimento e indossa le tue vesti». Invece il re d'Israele si travestì ed entrò nella mischia.
31 Now, the king of Aram had given his chariot commanders the fol owing order, 'Do not attack anyoneof whatever rank, except the king of Israel.'	31 Il re di Siria aveva comandato ai trentadue capi dei carri, dicendo: «Voi non combatterete contro alcuno nè piccolo nè grande, ma contro il solo re d'Israele».
32 So, when the chariot commanders saw Jehoshaphat, they thought, 'That is obviously the king ofIsrael,' and surrounded him to attack. But when Jehoshaphat shouted his war cry	32 Avendo dunque i principi visto il carro di Josafat, credettero che egli fosse il re d'Israele e lo assalirono con grande impeto, ma Josafat alzò la voce
33 the chariot commanders, realising that he was not the king of Israel, broke off their pursuit.	33 e i principi dei carri intesero che non era il re d'Israele e lo lasciarono.
34 Someone, however, drawing his bow without any special aim, shot the king of Israel between thejoints of his armour. 'Turn about!' said the king to his charioteer. 'Get me out of the fighting; I am col apsing.'	34 Ma un certo tale tirò a caso col suo arco una saetta ed essa venne a colpire il re d'Israele tra il polmone e lo stomaco. Allora il re disse al suo auriga: «Volta la mano, e conducimi fuori del campo di battaglia, poichè sono ferito gravemente».
35 But the battle grew fiercer as the day went on and the king had to be held upright in his chariot facingthe Aramaeans, the blood from the wound running into the bottom of the chariot, until in the evening he died.	35 La battaglia durò tutto quel giorno e il re d'Israele, che se ne stava nel suo carro contro i Siri, morì verso sera. Il sangue della ferita scorreva sopra il carro;
36 At sundown a shout ran through the ranks, 'Every man back to his town, every man back to hiscountry!	36 e prima che il sole tramontasse l'araldo sonò [la tromba] in mezzo a tutto l'esercito, dicendo: «Ciascuno ritorni alla sua città e al suo paese».
37 The king is dead.' He was taken to Samaria and in Samaria the king was buried.	37 Morì adunque il re e venne portato in Samaria e fu sepolto in Samaria
38 They washed the chariot at the Pool of Samaria; the dogs licked up the blood, and the prostituteswashed in it, in accordance with the word which Yahweh had spoken.	38 e lavarono il suo carro nella piscina di Samaria, e i cani leccarono il sangue di lui e lavarono le briglie secondo la parola che aveva detto il Signore.
39 The rest of the history of Ahab, his entire career, the ivory house he erected, al the towns he built, isthis not recorded in the Book of the Annals of the Kings of Israel?	39 Il resto della azioni di Acab e tutto ciò che fece e la casa d'avorio che costruì e tutte le città che edificò, non sono forse scritte nel libro delle Cronache dei re d'Israele?
40 When Ahab fel asleep with his ancestors, his son Ahaziah succeeded him.	40 Acab dormì adunque co' suoi padri e gli successe nel regno Ocozia suo figliuolo.
41 Jehoshaphat son of Asa became king of Judah in the fourth year of Ahab king of Israel.	41 Josafat figlio di Asa regnò sopra Giuda il quarto anno di Acab re d'Israele.
42 Jehoshaphat was thirty-five years old when he came to the throne, and he reigned for twenty-fiveyears in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Azubah daughter of Shilhi.	42 Josafat aveva trentacinque anni quando divenne re, e regnò venticinque anni in Gerusalemme. Sua madre si chiamava Azuba figlia di Salai.
43 In every way he followed the example of his father Asa undeviatingly, doing what is pleasing toYahweh.	43 Camminò nella via di Asa suo padre e non se ne allontanò mai, facendo ciò che era giusto al cospetto del Signore:
44 The high places, however, were not abolished; the people stil offered sacrifice and incense on thehigh places.	44 tuttavia non tolse le alture e il popolo continuava a sacrificare e a bruciare incenso sulle alture.
45 Jehoshaphat was at peace with the king of Israel.	45 Egli fu in pace col re d'Israele.
46 The rest of the history of Jehoshaphat, the valour he showed, the wars he waged, is this not recordedin the Book of the Annals of the Kings of Judah?	46 Il resto delle azioni di Josafat, le sue imprese e le sue guerre, non sono forse state scritte nel libro delle Cronache dei re di Giuda?

51 When Jehoshaphat fel asleep with his ancestors he was buried in the City of his ancestor, David; hisson Jehoram succeeded him.	51 Josafat dormì coi padri suoi e fu sepolto con essi nella città di Davide, suo padre, e regnò in sua vece suo figlio Joram.
52 Ahaziah son of Ahab became king of Israel in Samaria in the seventeenth year of Jehoshaphat king ofJudah, and reigned over Israel for two years.	52 Ocozia figliuolo di Acab aveva cominciato a regnare sopra Israele in Samaria nell'anno decimosettimo di Josafat re di Giuda e regnò due anni sopra Israele.
53 He did what is displeasing to Yahweh, by following the example of his father and mother, and ofJeroboam son of Nebat who had led Israel into sin.	53 Ma fece il male al cospetto del Signore e camminò nella via del padre suo e della madre sua e nella via di Geroboamo figliuolo di Nabat, che aveva fatto prevaricare Israele.
