1 There was a lul of three years, with no fighting between Aram and Israel.	1 La paix entre Aram et Israël dura trois ans.
2 Then, in the third year, Jehoshaphat king of Judah paid a visit to the king of Israel.	2 La troisième année, comme Josaphat roi de Juda était descendu chez le roi d’Israël,
3 The king of Israel said to his officers, 'You are aware that Ramoth in Gilead belongs to us? And yet wedo nothing to wrest it away from the king of Aram.'	3 celui-ci dit à ses serviteurs: “Avez-vous oublié que Ramot de Galaad est à nous? Nous ne faisons rien pour la reprendre au roi d’Aram.”
4 He said to Jehoshaphat, 'Wil you come with me to attack Ramoth in Gilead?' Jehoshaphat replied tothe king of Israel, 'I will be as you, my men as yours, my horses as yours.'	4 Il dit alors à Josaphat: “Viendras-tu combattre avec moi à Ramot de Galaad?” Josaphat répondit au roi d’Israël: “Moi, mon peuple et mes chevaux, nous ne ferons qu’un avec toi, ton peuple et tes chevaux.”
5 Jehoshaphat, however, said to the king of Israel, 'First, please enquire what the word of Yahweh is.'	5 Cependant Josaphat dit au roi d’Israël: “J’aimerais consulter la parole de Yahvé.”
6 The king of Israel then cal ed the prophets together, about four hundred of them. 'Should I go andattack Ramoth in Gilead,' he asked, 'or should I hold back?' 'Go ahead,' they replied, 'for Yahweh has alreadygiven it to the king.'	6 Le roi d’Israël rassembla les prophètes - ils étaient bien 400 - et il leur dit: “Faut-il que j’attaque Ramot de Galaad ou faut-il que j’y renonce?” Ils répondirent: “Pars en campagne et le Seigneur la livrera entre les mains du roi.”
7 Jehoshaphat, however, said, 'Is there no other prophet of Yahweh here, so that we can enquirethrough him?'	7 Josaphat dit alors: “N’y a-t-il pas ici un prophète de Yahvé par lequel nous puissions le consulter?”
8 The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, 'There is one more man through whom we can consultYahweh, but I hate him because he never has a favourable prophecy for me, only unfavourable ones; he isMicaiah son of Imlah.' 'I hope the king's words are unjustified,' said Jehoshaphat.	8 Le roi d’Israël répondit à Josaphat: “Si, il y a encore un homme par qui l’on pourrait consulter Yahvé, mais je le déteste car il ne me prophétise jamais rien de bon, seulement le mal; c’est Michée fils de Yimla.” Josaphat dit: “Que le roi ne parle pas ainsi!”
9 The king of Israel then summoned a court official and said, 'Bring Micaiah son of Imlah immediately.'	9 Le roi d’Israël appela un serviteur et lui dit: “Va tout de suite chercher Michée fils de Yimla.”
10 The king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah were sitting each on his throne, wearing their robes,in an open space just outside the gate of Samaria, with al the prophets in a state of ecstasy before them.	10 Le roi d’Israël et Josaphat, roi de Juda, étaient assis chacun sur son trône, en costume de cérémonie, sur l’aire qui est à l’entrée de la porte de Samarie, et tous les prophètes continuaient de prophétiser devant eux.
11 Zedekiah son of Kenaanah, who had made himself some iron horns, said, 'Yahweh says, "With hornslike these you wil gore the Aramaeans til you make an end of them." '	11 Sédécias fils de Kénaana s’était fait des cornes de fer, il disait: “Voici ce que dit Yahvé: Je te les donne pour frapper les Araméens jusqu’au dernier.”
12 And all the prophets cried ecstatical y in the same vein, saying, 'March on Ramoth in Gilead! Success is sure, for Yahweh has already given it to the king!'	12 Et tous les prophètes ne faisaient qu’un pour dire: “Pars en campagne contre Ramot de Galaad, tu seras vainqueur, Yahvé la livrera entre les mains du roi!”
13 The messenger who had gone to summon Micaiah said to him, 'Look here, what the prophets aresaying is uniformly favourable to the king. I hope you wil say the same as they do and speak favourably.'	13 Le messager qui était allé chercher Michée lui dit: “Tous les prophètes comme un seul homme encouragent le roi. Tu as intérêt à parler comme eux: annonce le succès.”
14 Micaiah said, 'As Yahweh lives, I shal speak as Yahweh tel s me!'	14 Mais Michée répondit: “Aussi vrai que Yahvé est vivant, je ne dirai que ce que Yahvé me dira.”
15 When he came to the king, the king said, 'Micaiah, should we go and attack Ramoth in Gilead, orshould we hold back?' He replied, 'Go ahead! Success is sure, for Yahweh has already given it to the king!'	15 Il arriva donc devant le roi, et le roi lui demanda: “Michée, faut-il que nous allions combattre à Ramot de Galaad, ou devons-nous y renoncer?” Michée répondit: “Pars en campagne et tu seras vainqueur; Yahvé la livrera entre les mains du roi!”
16 The king then said, 'How often must I put you on oath to tell me nothing but the truth in the name ofYahweh?'	16 Mais le roi lui dit: “Combien de fois faut-il que je te demande au nom de Yahvé de ne me dire que la vérité?”
17 Then he spoke out: I saw al Israel scattered on the mountains like sheep without a shepherd. AndYahweh said, 'These have no master, let them all go safely home!'	17 Alors Michée répondit: “J’ai vu tout Israël dispersé sur les montagnes comme des brebis qui n’ont plus de berger, et Yahvé disait: Ils n’ont plus de maître, que chacun retourne chez soi.”
18 At this the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, 'Did I not tell you that he never gives me favourableprophecies, but only unfavourable ones?'	18 Le roi d’Israël se tourna vers Josaphat: “Je te l’avais bien dit, il ne me prophétise jamais rien de bon, seulement le mal.”
19 Micaiah went on, 'Now listen to the word of Yahweh. I saw Yahweh seated on his throne with thewhole array of heaven standing by him, on his right and on his left.	19 Michée ajouta: “Écoute cette parole de Yahvé: J’ai vu Yahvé qui siégeait sur son trône, avec toute l’armée des cieux à sa droite et à sa gauche.
20 Yahweh said, "Who will entice Ahab into marching to his death at Ramoth in Gilead?" At which someanswered one way, and some another.	20 Et Yahvé a dit: ‘Qui trompera le roi d’Israël pour qu’il parte en campagne et se fasse tuer à Ramot de Galaad?’ L’un répondait d’une façon, l’autre d’une autre.
21 A spirit then came forward and stood before Yahweh and said, "I wil entice him."	21 “Alors l’Esprit s’est avancé et il s’est tenu devant Yahvé: ‘Moi, a-t-il dit, je le tromperai.’ Yahvé lui a demandé: ‘Comment cela?’
22 "How?" Yahweh asked. He replied, "I shal go and be a deceptive spirit in the mouths of al hisprophets." Yahweh said, "You wil succeed in enticing him. Go and do it."	22 Il a répondu: ‘Je vais aller et je me ferai esprit de mensonge dans la bouche de tous ses prophètes.’ Alors Yahvé lui a répondu: ‘Tu réussiras, tu arriveras à le tromper: pars et fais comme tu l’as dit.’
23 And now, you see, Yahweh has put a deceptive spirit into the mouths of al your prophets here, for infact Yahweh has pronounced disaster on you.'	23 Sache donc que Yahvé a mis un esprit de mensonge dans la bouche de tous les prophètes qui sont ici, parce que lui, Yahvé, a décidé ta perte.”
24 Zedekiah son of Chenaanah then came up, struck Micaiah on the cheek and said, 'Which way didYahweh's spirit leave me, to speak to you?'	24 À ce moment Sédécias, fils de Kénaana, s’avança et gifla Michée; il dit: “Par où l’esprit de Yahvé est-il sorti de moi pour te parler?”
25 'That is what you will find out,' Micaiah retorted, 'the day you go from room to room, trying to hide.'	25 Michée lui répondit: “Tu le sauras le jour où tu fuiras de chambre en chambre pour te cacher.”
26 The king of Israel said, 'Seize Micaiah and hand him over to Amon, governor of the city, and Joash,the king's son,	26 Alors le roi prit la parole: “Arrête cet homme et confie-le à Amon, le gouverneur de la ville, et à Yoach, fils du roi.
27 and say, "These are the king's orders: Put this man in prison and feed him on nothing but bread andwater until I am safely home." '	27 Vous leur direz: Voici l’ordre du roi: Mettez cet homme en prison, vous ne lui donnerez qu’une maigre ration de pain et d’eau jusqu’à ce que je revienne victorieux.”
28 Micaiah said, 'If you ever do get home safely, Yahweh has not spoken through me.'	28 Michée lui dit alors: “Si tu reviens victorieux, ce sera le signe que Yahvé n’a pas parlé par moi.”
29 The king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah marched on Ramoth in Gilead.	29 Le roi d’Israël et le roi de Juda, Josaphat, partirent en campagne contre Ramot de Galaad.
30 The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, 'I shal disguise myself to go into battle, but you put on yourrobes.' So the king of Israel disguised himself and went into battle.	30 Le roi d’Israël dit à Josaphat: “Je vais me déguiser pour aller combattre, mais toi, porte ton costume.” Et le roi d’Israël se déguisa pour aller au combat.
31 Now, the king of Aram had given his chariot commanders the fol owing order, 'Do not attack anyoneof whatever rank, except the king of Israel.'	31 Or le roi d’Aram avait donné cet ordre à ses 32 chefs de chars: “N’attaquez ni petit ni grand, mais seulement le roi d’Israël.”
32 So, when the chariot commanders saw Jehoshaphat, they thought, 'That is obviously the king ofIsrael,' and surrounded him to attack. But when Jehoshaphat shouted his war cry	32 Lorsque les chefs de chars aperçurent Josaphat, ils se dirent: “Sûrement c’est le roi d’Israël.” Et ils se dirigèrent vers lui pour l’attaquer. Mais Josaphat poussa un cri;
33 the chariot commanders, realising that he was not the king of Israel, broke off their pursuit.	33 lorsque les chefs de chars virent que ce n’était pas le roi d’Israël, ils se détournèrent de lui.
34 Someone, however, drawing his bow without any special aim, shot the king of Israel between thejoints of his armour. 'Turn about!' said the king to his charioteer. 'Get me out of the fighting; I am col apsing.'	34 Au même moment un soldat tira avec son arc sans savoir sur qui, et il atteignit le roi d’Israël entre les attaches et la cuirasse. Le roi dit à son conducteur de char: “Fais demi-tour et fais-moi sortir de la mêlée, je suis blessé.”
35 But the battle grew fiercer as the day went on and the king had to be held upright in his chariot facingthe Aramaeans, the blood from the wound running into the bottom of the chariot, until in the evening he died.	35 Mais le combat était très rude ce jour-là, il fallut maintenir le roi debout sur son char face aux Araméens, et le soir il mourut. Le sang de sa blessure avait coulé à l’intérieur du char.
36 At sundown a shout ran through the ranks, 'Every man back to his town, every man back to hiscountry!	36 Au coucher du soleil, un cri parcourut le camp: “Que chacun rentre dans sa ville, que chacun retourne à sa terre:
37 The king is dead.' He was taken to Samaria and in Samaria the king was buried.	37 le roi est mort!” On le ramena à Samarie, et là on l’enterra.
38 They washed the chariot at the Pool of Samaria; the dogs licked up the blood, and the prostituteswashed in it, in accordance with the word which Yahweh had spoken.	38 On lava le char à l’étang de Samarie; les chiens léchèrent le sang et les prostituées s’y baignèrent, comme Yahvé l’avait annoncé.
39 The rest of the history of Ahab, his entire career, the ivory house he erected, al the towns he built, isthis not recorded in the Book of the Annals of the Kings of Israel?	39 Le reste des actes d’Akab, tout ce qu’il a fait, le palais d’ivoire qu’il s’est construit, les villes qu’il a bâties, cela n’est-il pas écrit dans le livre des Chroniques des rois d’Israël?
40 When Ahab fel asleep with his ancestors, his son Ahaziah succeeded him.	40 Akab se coucha avec ses pères et son fils Okozias régna à sa place.
41 Jehoshaphat son of Asa became king of Judah in the fourth year of Ahab king of Israel.	41 Josaphat, fils d’Aza, devint roi de Juda l’an quatre du règne d’Akab d’Israël.
42 Jehoshaphat was thirty-five years old when he came to the throne, and he reigned for twenty-fiveyears in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Azubah daughter of Shilhi.	42 Josaphat avait 35 ans lorsqu’il devint roi et il régna 25 ans à Jérusalem; sa mère Azouba était fille de Chilhi.
43 In every way he followed the example of his father Asa undeviatingly, doing what is pleasing toYahweh.	43 Il suivit pas à pas les traces de son père Aza, il ne s’en détourna pas: il fit ce qui est juste aux yeux de Yahvé.
44 The high places, however, were not abolished; the people stil offered sacrifice and incense on thehigh places.	44 Cependant les Hauts-Lieux ne disparurent pas, le peuple continuait d’offrir des sacrifices et de l’encens sur les Hauts-Lieux.
45 Jehoshaphat was at peace with the king of Israel.	45 Josaphat fut en paix avec le roi d’Israël.
46 The rest of the history of Jehoshaphat, the valour he showed, the wars he waged, is this not recordedin the Book of the Annals of the Kings of Judah?	46 Le reste des actes de Josaphat, ses exploits, les guerres qu’il fit, tout cela n’est-il pas écrit dans le livre des Chroniques des rois de Juda?
47 The few male sacred prostitutes left over from the days of his father Asa, he expel ed from thecountry.	47 Il fit disparaître du pays les prostitués sacrés qui étaient restés au temps de son père Aza.
48 At the time, Edom had no king, and King	48 En ce temps-là il n’y avait pas de roi en Édom, mais seulement un gouverneur royal.
49 Jehoshaphat built ships of Tarshish to go to Ophir for gold, but they never made the voyage since theships were wrecked at Ezion-Geber.	49 Josaphat avait construit 10 vaisseaux de Tarsis pour aller chercher de l’or à Ofir, mais on n’y alla pas, car ses vaisseaux se brisèrent à Ézyon-Guéber.
50 Ahaziah son of Ahab then proposed to Jehoshaphat, 'Let my men go to sea with yours.' ButJehoshaphat would not agree.	50 À cette occasion Okozias, fils d’Akab, dit à Josaphat: “Laisse mes serviteurs s’embarquer avec les tiens sur les vaisseaux.” Mais Josaphat refusa.
51 When Jehoshaphat fel asleep with his ancestors he was buried in the City of his ancestor, David; hisson Jehoram succeeded him.	51 Lorsque Josaphat se coucha avec ses pères, on l’enterra avec ses pères dans la cité de David son ancêtre. Joram, son fils, régna à sa place.
52 Ahaziah son of Ahab became king of Israel in Samaria in the seventeenth year of Jehoshaphat king ofJudah, and reigned over Israel for two years.	52 Okozias fils d’Akab devint roi d’Israël à Samarie l’an 17 du règne de Josaphat de Juda; il régna deux ans sur Israël.
53 He did what is displeasing to Yahweh, by following the example of his father and mother, and ofJeroboam son of Nebat who had led Israel into sin.	53 Il fit ce qui est mal aux yeux de Yahvé et suivit les traces de son père et de sa mère; il imita la conduite de Jéroboam, fils de Nabat, qui avait fait pécher Israël. Il mit en colère Yahvé, Dieu d’Israël, comme l’avait fait son père, car il servait Baal et se prosternait devant lui.
54 He served Baal and worshipped him, and provoked the anger of Yahweh God of Israel just as hisfather had done.
