1 Kings 22

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 There was a lul of three years, with no fighting between Aram and Israel.	1 On fut tranquille pendant trois ans, sans combat entre Aram et Israël.
2 Then, in the third year, Jehoshaphat king of Judah paid a visit to the king of Israel.	2 La troisième année, Josaphat, roi de Juda, vint visiter le roi d'Israël.
3 The king of Israel said to his officers, 'You are aware that Ramoth in Gilead belongs to us? And yet wedo nothing to wrest it away from the king of Aram.'	3 Le roi d'Israël dit à ses officiers: "Vous savez bien que Ramot de Galaad est à nous, et nous nefaisons rien pour l'arracher des mains du roi d'Aram."
4 He said to Jehoshaphat, 'Wil you come with me to attack Ramoth in Gilead?' Jehoshaphat replied tothe king of Israel, 'I will be as you, my men as yours, my horses as yours.'	4 Il dit à Josaphat: "Viendras-tu avec moi combattre à Ramot de Galaad?" Josaphat répondit au roid'Israël: "Il en sera pour moi comme pour toi, pour mes gens comme pour tes gens, pour mes chevaux commepour tes chevaux."
5 Jehoshaphat, however, said to the king of Israel, 'First, please enquire what the word of Yahweh is.'	5 Cependant Josaphat dit au roi d'Israël: "Je te prie, consulte d'abord la parole de Yahvé."
6 The king of Israel then cal ed the prophets together, about four hundred of them. 'Should I go andattack Ramoth in Gilead,' he asked, 'or should I hold back?' 'Go ahead,' they replied, 'for Yahweh has alreadygiven it to the king.'	6 Le roi d'Israël rassembla les prophètes au nombre d'environ 400, et leur demanda: "Dois-je allerattaquer Ramot de Galaad, ou dois-je y renoncer?" Ils répondirent: "Monte, Yahvé la livrera aux mains du roi."
7 Jehoshaphat, however, said, 'Is there no other prophet of Yahweh here, so that we can enquirethrough him?'	7 Mais Josaphat dit: "N'y a-t-il donc ici aucun autre prophète de Yahvé, par qui nous puissions leconsulter?"
8 The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, 'There is one more man through whom we can consultYahweh, but I hate him because he never has a favourable prophecy for me, only unfavourable ones; he isMicaiah son of Imlah.' 'I hope the king's words are unjustified,' said Jehoshaphat.	8 Le roi d'Israël répondit à Josaphat: "Il y a encore un homme par qui on peut consulter Yahvé, maisje le hais, car il ne prophétise jamais le bien à mon sujet, rien que le mal, c'est Michée fils de Yimla." Josaphatdit: "Que le roi ne parle pas ainsi!"
9 The king of Israel then summoned a court official and said, 'Bring Micaiah son of Imlah immediately.'	9 Le roi d'Israël appela un eunuque et dit: "Fais vite venir Michée fils de Yimla."
10 The king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah were sitting each on his throne, wearing their robes,in an open space just outside the gate of Samaria, with al the prophets in a state of ecstasy before them.	10 Le roi d'Israël et Josaphat, roi de Juda, étaient assis chacun sur son siège, en grand costume, surl'aire devant la porte de Samarie, et tous les prophètes se livraient à leurs transports devant eux.
11 Zedekiah son of Kenaanah, who had made himself some iron horns, said, 'Yahweh says, "With hornslike these you wil gore the Aramaeans til you make an end of them." '	11 Sédécias fils de Kenaana se fit des cornes de fer et dit: "Ainsi parle Yahvé. Avec cela tuencorneras les Araméens jusqu'au dernier."
12 And all the prophets cried ecstatical y in the same vein, saying, 'March on Ramoth in Gilead! Success is sure, for Yahweh has already given it to the king!'	12 Et tous les prophètes faisaient la même prédiction, disant: "Monte à Ramot de Galaad! Turéussiras, Yahvé la livrera aux mains du roi."
13 The messenger who had gone to summon Micaiah said to him, 'Look here, what the prophets aresaying is uniformly favourable to the king. I hope you wil say the same as they do and speak favourably.'	13 Le messager qui était allé chercher Michée lui dit: Voici que les prophètes n'ont qu'une seulebouche pour parler en faveur du roi. Tâche de parler comme l'un d'eux et prédis le succès."
14 Micaiah said, 'As Yahweh lives, I shal speak as Yahweh tel s me!'	14 Mais Michée répondit: "Par Yahvé vivant! Ce que Yahvé me dira, c'est cela que j'énoncerai!"
15 When he came to the king, the king said, 'Micaiah, should we go and attack Ramoth in Gilead, orshould we hold back?' He replied, 'Go ahead! Success is sure, for Yahweh has already given it to the king!'	15 Il arriva près du roi, et le roi lui demanda: "Michée, devons-nous aller à Ramot de Galaad pourcombattre, ou devons-nous y renoncer?" Il lui répondit: "Monte! Tu réussiras. Yahvé la livrera aux mains duroi."
16 The king then said, 'How often must I put you on oath to tell me nothing but the truth in the name ofYahweh?'	16 Mais le roi lui dit: "Combien de fois me faudra-t-il t'adjurer de ne me dire que la vérité au nom deYahvé?"
17 Then he spoke out: I saw al Israel scattered on the mountains like sheep without a shepherd. AndYahweh said, 'These have no master, let them all go safely home!'	17 Alors il prononça: "J'ai vu tout Israël dispersé sur les montagnes comme un troupeau sans pasteur.Et Yahvé a dit: Ils n'ont plus de maître, que chacun retourne en paix chez soi!"
18 At this the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, 'Did I not tell you that he never gives me favourableprophecies, but only unfavourable ones?'	18 Le roi d'Israël dit alors à Josaphat: "Ne t'avais-je pas dit qu'il prophétisait pour moi non le bienmais le mal!"
19 Micaiah went on, 'Now listen to the word of Yahweh. I saw Yahweh seated on his throne with thewhole array of heaven standing by him, on his right and on his left.	19 Michée reprit: "Ecoute plutôt la parole de Yahvé. J'ai vu Yahvé assis sur son trône; toute l'arméedu ciel se tenait en sa présence, à sa droite et à sa gauche.
20 Yahweh said, "Who will entice Ahab into marching to his death at Ramoth in Gilead?" At which someanswered one way, and some another.	20 Yahvé demanda: Qui trompera Achab pour qu'il marche contre Ramot de Galaad et qu'il ysuccombe? Ils répondirent celui-ci d'une manière, celui-là d'une autre.
21 A spirit then came forward and stood before Yahweh and said, "I wil entice him."	21 Alors l'Esprit s'avança et se tint devant Yahvé: C'est moi, dit-il, qui le tromperai. Yahvé luidemanda: Comment?
22 "How?" Yahweh asked. He replied, "I shal go and be a deceptive spirit in the mouths of al hisprophets." Yahweh said, "You wil succeed in enticing him. Go and do it."	22 Il répondit: J'irai et je me ferai esprit de mensonge dans la bouche de tous ses prophètes. Yahvé dit:Tu le tromperas, tu réussiras. Va et fais ainsi.
23 And now, you see, Yahweh has put a deceptive spirit into the mouths of al your prophets here, for infact Yahweh has pronounced disaster on you.'	23 Voici donc que Yahvé a mis un esprit de mensonge dans la bouche de tous tes prophètes qui sontlà, mais Yahvé a prononcé contre toi le malheur."
24 Zedekiah son of Chenaanah then came up, struck Micaiah on the cheek and said, 'Which way didYahweh's spirit leave me, to speak to you?'	24 Alors Sédécias fils de Kenaana s'approcha et frappa Michée à la mâchoire, en disant: "Par oùl'esprit de Yahvé m'a-t-il quitté pour te parler?"
25 'That is what you will find out,' Micaiah retorted, 'the day you go from room to room, trying to hide.'	25 Michée repartit: "C'est ce que tu verras, le jour où tu fuiras dans une chambre retirée pour tecacher."
26 The king of Israel said, 'Seize Micaiah and hand him over to Amon, governor of the city, and Joash,the king's son,	26 Le roi d'Israël ordonna: "Saisis Michée et remets-le à Amôn, gouverneur de la ville, et au fils duroi, Yoash.
27 and say, "These are the king's orders: Put this man in prison and feed him on nothing but bread andwater until I am safely home." '	27 Tu leur diras: Ainsi parle le roi. Mettez cet homme en prison et nourrissez-le strictement de pain etd'eau jusqu'à ce que je revienne sain et sauf."
28 Micaiah said, 'If you ever do get home safely, Yahweh has not spoken through me.'	28 Michée dit: "Si tu reviens sain et sauf, c'est que Yahvé n'a pas parlé par ma bouche."
29 The king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah marched on Ramoth in Gilead.	29 Le roi d'Israël et Josaphat, roi de Juda, montèrent contre Ramot de Galaad.
30 The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, 'I shal disguise myself to go into battle, but you put on yourrobes.' So the king of Israel disguised himself and went into battle.	30 Le roi d'Israël dit à Josaphat: "Je me déguiserai pour marcher au combat, mais toi, revêts toncostume!" Le roi d'Israël se déguisa et marcha au combat.
31 Now, the king of Aram had given his chariot commanders the fol owing order, 'Do not attack anyoneof whatever rank, except the king of Israel.'	31 Le roi d'Aram avait donné cet ordre à ses commandants de chars: "Vous n'attaquerez ni petit nigrand, mais seulement le roi d'Israël."
32 So, when the chariot commanders saw Jehoshaphat, they thought, 'That is obviously the king ofIsrael,' and surrounded him to attack. But when Jehoshaphat shouted his war cry	32 Lorsque les commandants de chars virent Josaphat, ils dirent: "C'est sûrement le roi d'Israël", et ilsdirigèrent le combat de son côté; mais Josaphat poussa son cri de guerre
33 the chariot commanders, realising that he was not the king of Israel, broke off their pursuit.	33 et, lorsque les commandants de chars virent que ce n'était pas le roi d'Israël, ils s'éloignèrent de lui.
34 Someone, however, drawing his bow without any special aim, shot the king of Israel between thejoints of his armour. 'Turn about!' said the king to his charioteer. 'Get me out of the fighting; I am col apsing.'	34 Or un homme banda son arc sans savoir qui il visait et atteignit le roi d'Israël entre le corselet et lesappliques de la cuirasse. Celui-ci dit à son charrier: "Tourne bride et fais-moi sortir de la mêlée, car je me sensmal."
35 But the battle grew fiercer as the day went on and the king had to be held upright in his chariot facingthe Aramaeans, the blood from the wound running into the bottom of the chariot, until in the evening he died.	35 Mais le combat devint plus violent ce jour-là, on soutint le roi debout sur son char en face desAraméens, et le soir il mourut; le sang de sa blessure coulait dans le fond du char.
36 At sundown a shout ran through the ranks, 'Every man back to his town, every man back to hiscountry!	36 Au coucher du soleil, un cri se répandit dans le camp: "Chacun à sa ville et chacun à son pays!
37 The king is dead.' He was taken to Samaria and in Samaria the king was buried.	37 Le roi est mort." On alla à Samarie et on enterra le roi à Samarie.
38 They washed the chariot at the Pool of Samaria; the dogs licked up the blood, and the prostituteswashed in it, in accordance with the word which Yahweh had spoken.	38 On lava à grande eau son char à l'étang de Samarie, les chiens lapèrent le sang et les prostituées s'ybaignèrent, selon la parole que Yahvé avait dite.
39 The rest of the history of Ahab, his entire career, the ivory house he erected, al the towns he built, isthis not recorded in the Book of the Annals of the Kings of Israel?	39 Le reste de l'histoire d'Achab, tout ce qu'il a fait, la maison d'ivoire qu'il construisit, toutes lesvilles qu'il bâtit, cela n'est-il pas écrit au livre des Annales des rois d'Israël?
40 When Ahab fel asleep with his ancestors, his son Ahaziah succeeded him.	40 Achab se coucha avec ses pères et son fils Ochozias régna à sa place.
41 Jehoshaphat son of Asa became king of Judah in the fourth year of Ahab king of Israel.	41 Josaphat fils d'Asa devint roi sur Juda en la quatrième année d'Achab, roi d'Israël.
42 Jehoshaphat was thirty-five years old when he came to the throne, and he reigned for twenty-fiveyears in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Azubah daughter of Shilhi.	42 Josaphat avait 35 ans à son avènement et il régna 25 ans à Jérusalem; sa mère s'appelait Azuba,fille de Shilhi.
43 In every way he followed the example of his father Asa undeviatingly, doing what is pleasing toYahweh.	43 Il suivit entièrement la conduite de son père Asa, sans dévier, faisant ce qui est juste au regard deYahvé.
44 The high places, however, were not abolished; the people stil offered sacrifice and incense on thehigh places.	44 Seulement, les hauts lieux ne disparurent pas; le peuple continua d'offrir des sacrifices et del'encens sur les hauts lieux.
45 Jehoshaphat was at peace with the king of Israel.	45 Josaphat fut en paix avec le roi d'Israël.
46 The rest of the history of Jehoshaphat, the valour he showed, the wars he waged, is this not recordedin the Book of the Annals of the Kings of Judah?	46 Le reste de l'histoire de Josaphat, la vaillance qu'il déploya et les guerres qu'il livra, cela n'est-il pasécrit au livre des Annales des rois de Juda?

50 Ahaziah son of Ahab then proposed to Jehoshaphat, 'Let my men go to sea with yours.' ButJehoshaphat would not agree.	50 Alors Ochozias fils d'Achab dit à Josaphat: "Mes serviteurs iront avec tes serviteurs sur lesvaisseaux"; mais Josaphat n'accepta pas.
51 When Jehoshaphat fel asleep with his ancestors he was buried in the City of his ancestor, David; hisson Jehoram succeeded him.	51 Josaphat se coucha avec ses pères et on l'enterra dans la Cité de David, son ancêtre; son fils Joramrégna à sa place.
52 Ahaziah son of Ahab became king of Israel in Samaria in the seventeenth year of Jehoshaphat king ofJudah, and reigned over Israel for two years.	52 Ochozias, fils d'Achab, devint roi sur Israël à Samarie en la dix-septième année de Josaphat, roi deJuda, et régna deux ans sur Israël.
53 He did what is displeasing to Yahweh, by following the example of his father and mother, and ofJeroboam son of Nebat who had led Israel into sin.	53 Il fit ce qui déplaît à Yahvé et suivit la voie de son père et celle de sa mère, et celle de Jéroboamfils de Nebat qui avait entraîné Israël au péché.
