1 Kings 19

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 When Ahab told Jezebel everything that Elijah had done, and how he had put all the prophets to thesword,	1 Ajab contó a Jezabel todo lo que había hecho Elías y cómo había pasado a todos los profetas al filo de la espada.
2 Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah to say, 'May the gods bring unnameable il s on me and worse il stoo, if by this time tomorrow I have not made your life like one of theirs!'	2 Jezabel envió entonces un mensajero a Elías para decirle: «Que los dioses me castiguen si mañana, a la misma hora, yo no hago con tu vida lo que tú hiciste con la de ellos».
3 He was afraid and fled for his life. He came to Beersheba, a town of Judah, where he left his servant.	3 El tuvo miedo, y partió en seguida para salvar su vida. Llegó a Berseba de Judá y dejó allí a su sirviente.
4 He himself went on into the desert, a day's journey, and sitting under a furze bush wished he weredead. 'Yahweh,' he said, 'I have had enough. Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors.'	4 Luego caminó un día entero por el desierto, y al final se sentó bajo una retama. Entonces se deseó la muerte y exclamó: «¡Basta ya, Señor! ¡Quítame la vida, porque yo no valgo más que mis padres!».
5 Then he lay down and went to sleep. Then al of a sudden an angel touched him and said, 'Get up andeat.'	5 Se acostó y se quedó dormido bajo la retama. Pero un ángel lo tocó y le dijo: «¡Levántate, come!».
6 He looked round, and there at his head was a scone baked on hot stones, and a jar of water. He ateand drank and then lay down again.	6 El miró y vio que había a su cabecera una galleta cocida sobre piedras calientes y un jarro de agua. Comió, bebió y se acostó de nuevo.
7 But the angel of Yahweh came back a second time and touched him and said, 'Get up and eat, or thejourney will be too long for you.'	7 Pero el Angel del Señor volvió otra vez, lo tocó y le dijo: «¡Levántate, come, porque todavía te queda mucho por caminar!».
8 So he got up and ate and drank, and strengthened by that food he walked for forty days and fortynights until he reached Horeb, God's mountain.	8 Elías se levantó, comió y bebió, y fortalecido por ese alimento caminó cuarenta días y cuarenta noches hasta la montaña de Dios, el Horeb.
9 There he went into a cave and spent the night there. Then the word of Yahweh came to him saying,'What are you doing here, Elijah?'	9 Allí, entró en la gruta y pasó la noche. Entonces le fue dirigida la palabra del Señor.
10 He replied, 'I am ful of jealous zeal for Yahweh Sabaoth, because the Israelites have abandoned yourcovenant, have torn down your altars and put your prophets to the sword. I am the only one left, and now theywant to kil me.'	10 El Señor le dijo: «¿Qué haces aquí, Elías?». El respondió: «Me consumo de celo por el Señor, el Dios de los ejércitos, porque los israelitas abandonaron tu alianza, derribaron tus altares y mataron a tus profetas con la espada. He quedado yo solo y tratan de quitarme la vida».
11 Then he was told, 'Go out and stand on the mountain before Yahweh.' For at that moment Yahwehwas going by. A mighty hurricane split the mountains and shattered the rocks before Yahweh. But Yahweh wasnot in the hurricane. And after the hurricane, an earthquake. But Yahweh was not in the earthquake.	11 El Señor le dijo: «Sal y quédate de pie en la montaña, delante del Señor». Y en ese momento el Señor pasaba. Sopló un viento huracanado que partía las montañas y resquebrajaba las rocas delante del Señor. Pero el Señor no estaba en el viento. Después del viento, hubo un terremoto. Pero el Señor no estaba en el terremoto.
12 And after the earthquake, fire. But Yahweh was not in the fire. And after the fire, a light murmuring sound.	12 Después del terremoto, se encendió un fuego. Pero el Señor no estaba en el fuego. Después del fuego, se oyó el rumor de una brisa suave.
13 And when Elijah heard this, he covered his face with his cloak and went out and stood at the entranceof the cave. Then a voice came to him, which said, 'What are you doing here, Elijah?'	13 Al oírla, Elías se cubrió el rostro con su manto, salió y se quedó de pie a la entrada de la gruta. Entonces le llegó una voz, que decía: «¿Qué haces aquí, Elías?».
14 He replied, 'I am ful of jealous zeal for Yahweh, God Sabaoth, because the Israelites haveabandoned your covenant, have torn down your altars and put your prophets to the sword. I am the only one leftand now they want to kil me.'	14 El respondió: «Me consumo de celo por el Señor, el Dios de los ejércitos, porque los israelitas abandonaron tu alianza, derribaron tus altares y mataron a tus profetas con la espada. He quedado yo solo y tratan de quitarme la vida».
15 'Go,' Yahweh said, 'go back by the same way to the desert of Damascus. You must go and anointHazael as king of Aram.	15 El Señor le dijo: «Vuelve por el mismo camino, hacia el desierto de Damasco. Cuando llegues, ungirás a Jazael como rey de Aram.
16 You must anoint Jehu son of Nimshi as king of Israel, and anoint Elisha son of Shaphat, of Abel-Meholah, as prophet to succeed you.	16 A Jehú, hijo de Nimsí, lo ungirás rey de Israel, y a Eliseo, hijo de Safat, de Abel Mejolá, lo ungirás profeta en lugar de ti.
17 Anyone who escapes the sword of Hazael wil be put to death by Jehu; and anyone who escapes thesword of Jehu wil be put to death by Elisha.	17 Al que escape de la espada de Jazael, lo hará morir Jehú; al que escape de la espada de Jehú, lo hará morir Eliseo.
18 But I shal spare seven thousand in Israel; all the knees that have not bent before Baal, al the mouthsthat have not kissed him.'	18 Pero yo preservaré en Israel un resto de siete mil hombres: todas las rodillas que no se doblaron ante Baal y todas las bocas que no lo besaron».
19 Leaving there, he came on Elisha son of Shaphat as he was ploughing behind twelve yoke of oxen,he himself being with the twelfth. Elijah passed near to him and threw his cloak over him.	19 Elías partió de allí y encontró a Eliseo, hijo de Safat, que estaba arando. Delante de él había doce yuntas de bueyes, y él iba con la última. Elías pasó cerca de él y le echó encima su manto.
20 Elisha left his oxen and ran after Elijah. 'Let me kiss my father and mother, then I wil fol ow you,' hesaid. Elijah answered, 'Go, go back; for have I done anything to you?'	20 Eliseo dejó sus bueyes, corrió detrás de Elías y dijo: «Déjame besar a mi padre y a mi madre; luego te seguiré». Elías le respondió: «Sí, puedes ir. ¿Qué hice yo para impedírtelo?»
21 Elisha turned away, took a yoke of oxen and slaughtered them. He used the oxen's tackle for cookingthe meat, which he gave the people to eat. He then rose and, following Elijah, became his servant.	21 Eliseo dio media vuelta, tomó la yunta de bueyes y los inmoló. Luego, con los arneses de los bueyes, asó la carne y se la dio a su gente para que comieran. Después partió, fue detrás de Elías y se puso a su servicio.
