1 Kings 19

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 When Ahab told Jezebel everything that Elijah had done, and how he had put all the prophets to thesword,	1 Ajab refirió a Jezabel cuanto había hecho Elías y cómo había pasado a cuchillo a todos los profetas.
2 Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah to say, 'May the gods bring unnameable il s on me and worse il stoo, if by this time tomorrow I have not made your life like one of theirs!'	2 Envió Jezabel un mensajero a Elías diciendo: «Que los dioses me hagan esto y me añaden esto otro si mañana a estas horas no he puesto tu alma igual que el alma de uno de ellos».
3 He was afraid and fled for his life. He came to Beersheba, a town of Judah, where he left his servant.	3 El tuvo miedo, se levantó y se fue para salvar su vida. Llegó a Berseba de Judá y dejó allí a su criado.
4 He himself went on into the desert, a day's journey, and sitting under a furze bush wished he weredead. 'Yahweh,' he said, 'I have had enough. Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors.'	4 El caminó por el desierto una jornada de camino, y fue a sentarse bajo una retama. Se deseó la muerte y dijo: «¡Basta ya, Yahveh! ¡Toma mi vida, porque no soy mejor que mis padres!»
5 Then he lay down and went to sleep. Then al of a sudden an angel touched him and said, 'Get up andeat.'	5 Se acostó y se durmió bajo una retama, pero un ángel le tocó y le dijo: «Levántate y come».
6 He looked round, and there at his head was a scone baked on hot stones, and a jar of water. He ateand drank and then lay down again.	6 Miró y vio a su cabecera una torta cocida sobre piedras calientes y un jarro de agua. Comió y bebió y se volvió a acostar.
7 But the angel of Yahweh came back a second time and touched him and said, 'Get up and eat, or thejourney will be too long for you.'	7 Volvió segunda vez el ángel de Yahveh, le tocó y le dijo: «Levántate y come, porque el camino es demasiado largo para ti».
8 So he got up and ate and drank, and strengthened by that food he walked for forty days and fortynights until he reached Horeb, God's mountain.	8 Se levantó, comió y bebió, y con la fuerza de aquella comida caminó cuarenta días y cuarenta noches hasta el monte de Dios, el Horeb.
9 There he went into a cave and spent the night there. Then the word of Yahweh came to him saying,'What are you doing here, Elijah?'	9 Allí entró en la cueva, y pasó en ella la noche. Le fue dirigida la palabra de Yahveh, que le dijo: «¿Qué haces aquí Elías?»
10 He replied, 'I am ful of jealous zeal for Yahweh Sabaoth, because the Israelites have abandoned yourcovenant, have torn down your altars and put your prophets to the sword. I am the only one left, and now theywant to kil me.'	10 El dijo: «Ardo en celo por Yahveh, Dios Sebaot, porque los israelitas han abandonado tu alianza, han derribado tus altares y han pasado a espada a tus profetas; quedo yo solo y buscan mi vida para quitármela».
11 Then he was told, 'Go out and stand on the mountain before Yahweh.' For at that moment Yahwehwas going by. A mighty hurricane split the mountains and shattered the rocks before Yahweh. But Yahweh wasnot in the hurricane. And after the hurricane, an earthquake. But Yahweh was not in the earthquake.	11 Le dijo: «Sal y ponte en el monte ante Yahveh». Y he aquí que Yahveh pasaba. Hubo un huracán tan violento que hendía las montañas y quebrantaba las rocas ante Yahveh; pero no estaba Yahveh en el huracán. Después del huracán, un temblor de tierra; pero no estaba Yahveh en el temblor.
12 And after the earthquake, fire. But Yahweh was not in the fire. And after the fire, a light murmuring sound.	12 Después del temblor, fuego, pero no estaba Yahveh en el fuego. Después del fuego, el susurro de una brisa suave.
13 And when Elijah heard this, he covered his face with his cloak and went out and stood at the entranceof the cave. Then a voice came to him, which said, 'What are you doing here, Elijah?'	13 Al oírlo Elías, cubrió su rostro con el manto, salió y se puso a la entrada de la cueva. Le fue dirigida una voz que le dijo: «¿Qué haces aquí, Elías?»
14 He replied, 'I am ful of jealous zeal for Yahweh, God Sabaoth, because the Israelites haveabandoned your covenant, have torn down your altars and put your prophets to the sword. I am the only one leftand now they want to kil me.'	14 El respondió: «Ardo en celo por Yahveh, Dios Sebaot, porque los israelitas han abandonado tu alianza, han derribado tus altares y han pasado a espada a tus profetas; quedo yo solo y buscam mi vida para quitármela».
15 'Go,' Yahweh said, 'go back by the same way to the desert of Damascus. You must go and anointHazael as king of Aram.	15 Yahveh le dijo: «Anda, vuelve por tu camino hacia el desierto de Damasco. Vete y unge a Jazael como rey de Aram.
16 You must anoint Jehu son of Nimshi as king of Israel, and anoint Elisha son of Shaphat, of Abel-Meholah, as prophet to succeed you.	16 Ungirás a Jehú, hijo de Nimsí, como rey de Israel, y a Eliseo, hijo de Safat, de Abel Mejolá, le ungirás como profeta en tu lugar.
17 Anyone who escapes the sword of Hazael wil be put to death by Jehu; and anyone who escapes thesword of Jehu wil be put to death by Elisha.	17 Al que escape a la espada de Jazael le hará morir Jehú, y al que escape a la espada de Jehú, le hará morir Eliseo.
18 But I shal spare seven thousand in Israel; all the knees that have not bent before Baal, al the mouthsthat have not kissed him.'	18 Pero me reservaré 7.000 en Israel: todas las rodillas que no se doblaron ante Baal, y todas las bocas que no le besaron».
19 Leaving there, he came on Elisha son of Shaphat as he was ploughing behind twelve yoke of oxen,he himself being with the twelfth. Elijah passed near to him and threw his cloak over him.	19 Partió de allí y encontró a Eliseo, hijo de Safat, que estaba arando. Había delante de él doce yuntas y él estaba con la duodécima. Pasó Elías y le echó su manto encima.
20 Elisha left his oxen and ran after Elijah. 'Let me kiss my father and mother, then I wil fol ow you,' hesaid. Elijah answered, 'Go, go back; for have I done anything to you?'	20 El abandonó los bueyes, corrió tras de Elías y le dijo: «Déjame ir a besar a mi padre y a mi madre y te seguiré». Le respondió: «Anda, vuélvete, pues ¿qué te he hecho?»
21 Elisha turned away, took a yoke of oxen and slaughtered them. He used the oxen's tackle for cookingthe meat, which he gave the people to eat. He then rose and, following Elijah, became his servant.	21 Volvió atrás Eliseo, tomó el par de bueyes y los sacrificó, asó su carne con el yugo de los bueyes y dio a sus gentes, que comieron. Después se levantó, se fue tras de Elías y entró a su servicio.
