1 Kings 19

1 When Ahab told Jezebel everything that Elijah had done, and how he had put all the prophets to thesword,	1 Nuntiavit autem Achab Iezabel omnia, quae fecerat Elias, et quomodo occidisset universos prophetas gladio.
2 Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah to say, 'May the gods bring unnameable il s on me and worse il stoo, if by this time tomorrow I have not made your life like one of theirs!'	2 Misitque Iezabel nuntium ad Eliam dicens: “ Haec mihi faciant dii et haec addant, nisi hac hora cras posuero animam tuam sicut animam unius ex illis ”.
3 He was afraid and fled for his life. He came to Beersheba, a town of Judah, where he left his servant.	3 Timuit ergo Elias et surgens abiit, ut animam suam salvaret, venitque in Bersabee Iudae et dimisit ibi puerum suum.
4 He himself went on into the desert, a day's journey, and sitting under a furze bush wished he weredead. 'Yahweh,' he said, 'I have had enough. Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors.'	4 Et perrexit in desertum via unius diei; cumque venisset et sederet subter unam iuniperum, petivit animae suae, ut moreretur, et ait: “ Sufficit mihi, Domine! Tolle animam meam; neque enim melior sum quam patres mei ”.
5 Then he lay down and went to sleep. Then al of a sudden an angel touched him and said, 'Get up andeat.'	5 Proiecitque se et obdormivit in umbra iuniperi; et ecce angelus tetigit eum et dixit illi: “ Surge, comede! ”.
6 He looked round, and there at his head was a scone baked on hot stones, and a jar of water. He ateand drank and then lay down again.	6 Respexit, et ecce ad caput suum subcinericius panis et vas aquae; comedit ergo et bibit et rursum obdormivit.
7 But the angel of Yahweh came back a second time and touched him and said, 'Get up and eat, or thejourney will be too long for you.'	7 Reversusque est angelus Domini secundo et tetigit eum dixitque illi: “ Surge, comede! Grandis enim tibi restat via ”.
8 So he got up and ate and drank, and strengthened by that food he walked for forty days and fortynights until he reached Horeb, God's mountain.	8 Qui, cum surrexisset, comedit et bibit et ambulavit in fortitudine cibi illius quadraginta diebus et quadraginta noctibus usque ad montem Dei Horeb.
9 There he went into a cave and spent the night there. Then the word of Yahweh came to him saying,'What are you doing here, Elijah?'	9 Cumque venisset illuc, mansit in spelunca. Et ecce sermo Domini ad eum dixitque illi: “ Quid hic agis, Elia? ”.
10 He replied, 'I am ful of jealous zeal for Yahweh Sabaoth, because the Israelites have abandoned yourcovenant, have torn down your altars and put your prophets to the sword. I am the only one left, and now theywant to kil me.'	10 At ille respondit: “ Zelo zelatus sum pro Domino, Deo exercituum, quia dereliquerunt pactum tuum filii Israel, altaria tua destruxerunt et prophetas tuos occiderunt gladio; et derelictus sum ego solus, et quaerunt animam meam, ut auferant eam ”.
11 Then he was told, 'Go out and stand on the mountain before Yahweh.' For at that moment Yahwehwas going by. A mighty hurricane split the mountains and shattered the rocks before Yahweh. But Yahweh wasnot in the hurricane. And after the hurricane, an earthquake. But Yahweh was not in the earthquake.	11 Et ait ei: “ Egredere et sta in monte coram Domino ”. Et ecce Dominus transit, et ventus grandis et fortis subvertens montes et conterens petras ante Dominum; non in vento Dominus. Et post ventum, commotio; non in commotione Dominus.
12 And after the earthquake, fire. But Yahweh was not in the fire. And after the fire, a light murmuring sound.	12 Et post commotionem, ignis; non in igne Dominus. Et post ignem, sibilus aurae tenuis.
13 And when Elijah heard this, he covered his face with his cloak and went out and stood at the entranceof the cave. Then a voice came to him, which said, 'What are you doing here, Elijah?'	13 Quod cum audisset Elias, operuit vultum suum pallio et egressus stetit in ostio speluncae; et ecce vox ad eum dicens: “ Quid agis hic, Elia? ”.
14 He replied, 'I am ful of jealous zeal for Yahweh, God Sabaoth, because the Israelites haveabandoned your covenant, have torn down your altars and put your prophets to the sword. I am the only one leftand now they want to kil me.'	14 Et ille respondit: “ Zelo zelatus sum pro Domino, Deo exercituum, quia dereliquerunt pactum tuum filii Israel, altaria tua destruxerunt et prophetas tuos occiderunt gladio; et derelictus sum ego solus, et quaerunt animam meam, ut auferant eam ”.
15 'Go,' Yahweh said, 'go back by the same way to the desert of Damascus. You must go and anointHazael as king of Aram.	15 Et ait Dominus ad eum: “ Vade et revertere in viam tuam per desertum in Damascum. Cumque perveneris, unges Hazael regem super Syriam;
16 You must anoint Jehu son of Nimshi as king of Israel, and anoint Elisha son of Shaphat, of Abel-Meholah, as prophet to succeed you.	16 et Iehu filium Namsi unges regem super Israel; Eliseum autem filium Saphat, qui est de Abelmehula, unges prophetam pro te.
17 Anyone who escapes the sword of Hazael wil be put to death by Jehu; and anyone who escapes thesword of Jehu wil be put to death by Elisha.	17 Et erit: quicumque fugerit gladium Hazael, occidet eum Iehu; et, qui fugerit gladium Iehu, interficiet eum Eliseus.
18 But I shal spare seven thousand in Israel; all the knees that have not bent before Baal, al the mouthsthat have not kissed him.'	18 Et relinquam mihi in Israel septem milia: universorum genua, quae non sunt incurvata ante Baal, et omne os, quod non osculatum est eum ”.
19 Leaving there, he came on Elisha son of Shaphat as he was ploughing behind twelve yoke of oxen,he himself being with the twelfth. Elijah passed near to him and threw his cloak over him.	19 Profectus ergo inde repperit Eliseum filium Saphat arantem duodecim iugis boum; et ipse cum duodecimo erat. Cumque venisset Elias ad eum, misit pallium suum super illum,
20 Elisha left his oxen and ran after Elijah. 'Let me kiss my father and mother, then I wil fol ow you,' hesaid. Elijah answered, 'Go, go back; for have I done anything to you?'	20 qui statim, relictis bobus, cucurrit post Eliam et ait: “ Osculer, oro, patrem meum et matrem meam, et sic sequar te ”. Dixitque ei: “ Vade et revertere; quid enim feci tibi? ”.
21 Elisha turned away, took a yoke of oxen and slaughtered them. He used the oxen's tackle for cookingthe meat, which he gave the people to eat. He then rose and, following Elijah, became his servant.	21 Reversus autem ab eo tulit par boum et mactavit illud et in iugo boum coxit carnes et dedit populo, et comederunt. Consurgensque abiit et secutus est Eliam et ministrabat ei.
