Genesis 34

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 Dinah, who was Jacob's daughter by Leah, went out to visit some of the women of that region.	1 Ora Dina, figlia di Lia, uscì a vedere e donne di quel paese;
2 Shechem son of Hamor the Hivite, headman of the region, saw her, seized her and forced her tosleep with him.	2 e Sichem, figliolo di Hemor Eveo, principe del paese, avendola veduta, se ne innamorò e la rapì, con lei si giacque e la disonorò colla violenza.
3 He was captivated by Dinah daughter of Jacob; he fel in love with the girl and tried to win her heart.	3 E appassionato nell'anima per Dina che ne era afflitta, l'acquietò colle carezze;
4 Accordingly Shechem said to his father Hamor, 'Get me this girl; I want to marry her.'	4 e poi andò a dire ad Hemor suo padre: « Prendimi questa fanciulla per moglie ».
5 Meanwhile, Jacob had heard how his daughter Dinah had been dishonoured, but since his sons wereout in the countryside with his livestock, Jacob said nothing until they came back.	5 Giacobbe, sebbene sapesse la cosa, pure, essendo i suoi figli assenti e occupati a pascere le pecore, si tacque fino al loro ritorno.
6 Hamor father of Shechem was visiting Jacob to discuss the matter with him,	6 Or essendo andato Hemor, padre di Sichem, a parlare a Giacobbe,
7 when Jacob's sons returned from the countryside and heard the news; the men were outraged andinfuriated that Shechem had insulted Israel by sleeping with Jacob's daughter -- a thing total y unacceptable.	7 ecco i figli di lui tornare dalla campagna. Essi, appena seppero quanto era avvenuto, si abbandonarono al furore contro chi aveva fatta azione si infame contro Israele, e violando la figlia di Giacobbe aveva commessa un'azione vituperevole.
8 Hamor reasoned with them as fol ows, 'My son Shechem's heart is set on your daughter. Please al owher to marry him.	8 Ma Hemor disse loro: «L'anima del mio figliolo non può stare lontana dalla vostra figlia: dategliela in moglie,
9 Intermarry with us; give us your daughters and take our daughters for yourselves.	9 e imparentatevi con noi, dandoci le vostre figliole e prendendo le nostre;
10 We can live together, and the country wil be open to you, for you to live in, and move about in, andacquire holdings.'	10 abitate con noi: la terra è a vostra disposizione: lavoratela, trafficateci, acquistatela ».
11 Then Shechem addressed the girl's father and brothers, 'Grant me this favour, and I will give youwhatever you ask.	11 Ed anche Sichem diceva al padre ed ai fratelli di Dina: « Se io posso trovar grazia presso di voi, vi darò tutto quello che desiderate:
12 Demand as high a bride-price from me as you please, and I wil pay as much as you ask. Only let memarry the girl.'	12 aumentate la dote, chiedete doni, ed io volentieri vi darò quanto chiederete; ma datemi questa fanciulla in moglie ».
13 Jacob's sons gave Shechem and his father Hamor a crafty answer, speaking as they did because hehad dishonoured their sister Dinah.	13 I figli di Giacobbe rispondendo a Sichem e a suo padre con inganno, perche esacerbati pel disonore della sorella, dissero:
14 'We cannot do this,' they said to them. 'To give our sister to an uncircumcised man would be adisgrace for us.	14 « Non possiamo far quanto bramate, nè dare la sorella ad un uomo incirconciso, perchè ciò presso di noi è cosa illecita e abominevole;
15 We can agree only on one condition: that you become like us by circumcising al your males.	15 ma potremo fare alleanza, se vorrete farvi simili a noi, circoncidendo tra voi ogni maschio:
16 Then we wil give you our daughters, taking yours for ourselves; and we wil stay with you to makeone nation.	16 allora vi daremo le nostre figliole e ci prenderemo le vostre, e abiteremo con voi e diventerei o un popolo solo.
17 But if you will not agree to our terms about being circumcised, we shal take our daughter and go.'	17 Ma se non vi volete circoncidere, prenderemo la nostra fanciulla e ce ne andremo ».
18 Hamor and Shechem son of Hamor were pleased with what they heard.	18 La loro offerta piacque ad Hemor e a Sichem suo figlio,
19 The young man did not hesitate about doing this, for he was deeply in love with Jacob's daughter.Moreover he was the most respected member of his entire family.	19 il quale non tardò ad eseguire quanto gli era richiesto, perchè portava grande amore alla fanciulla ed era il più onorato in tutta la casa di suo padre.
20 Hamor and his son Shechem went to the gate of their town and spoke to their fellow-townsmen asfol ows,	20 Hemor e Sichem allora andarono alla porta della città e dissero al popolo:
21 'These men are friendly; let them settle in the region and move about freely in it; there is plenty ofroom here for them; we shal marry their daughters and give our daughters to them.	21 « Questi uomini sono pacifici e desiderano abitar con noi: permettiamo loro di trafficare in questa terra e di lavorarla, giacché è spaziosa e vasta ed ha bisogno di coltivatori; prenderemo poi in moglie le loro figliole e daremo loro le nostre.
22 But these men will agree to settle with us and become a single nation only on this condition: that alour males be circumcised like them.	22 Una sola cosa allontana tanto bene: bisogna circoncidere i nostri maschi, imitando il rito di questa gente.
23 Wil not the livestock they own, al their animals, become ours? Then let us give our assent to this, sothat they can settle with us.'	23 Ma cosi le loro ricchezze, i loro bestiami e tutto quello che posseggono sarà nostro. Basta accordarsi in questo soltanto, per vivere insieme e formare un sol popolo ».
24 Al the citizens of the town agreed to the proposal made by Hamor and his son Shechem, and al themales were circumcised.	24 Tutti diedero il loro assenso e tutti i maschi furono circoncisi.
25 Now on the third day, when the men were stil in pain, Jacob's two sons Simeon and Levi, Dinah'sbrothers, each took his sword and advanced unopposed against the town and slaughtered al the males.	25 Ma ecco al terzo giorno, quando il dolore del taglio è più acerbo, i due figli di Giacobbe, Simeone e Levi, fratelli di Dina, impugnate le spade, entrare a man salva nella città ed uccidere tutti i maschi.
26 They kil ed Hamor and his son Shechem with the sword, removed Dinah from Shechem's house andcame away.	26 Trucidarono anche Hemor e Sichem, e tolsero dalla casa di Sichem la loro sorella Dina.
27 When Jacob's other sons came on the slain, they pil aged the town in reprisal for the dishonouring oftheir sister.	27 E, usciti loro, si gettarono sopra gli uccisi gli altri figli di Giacobbe, e saccheggiarono la città per vendicarsi dello stupro.
28 They seized their flocks, cattle, donkeys, everything else in the town and in the countryside,	28 Presero loro le pecore, gli armenti e gli asini, e devastarono quanto era nelle case e nella campagna,
29 and al their possessions. They took al their children and wives captive and looted everything to befound in the houses.	29 e di più menarono in schiavitù i fanciulli e le loro donne.
30 Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, 'You have done me an il turn by bringing me into bad odour with thepeople of the region, the Canaanites and the Perizzites. I have few men, whereas they wil unite against me todefeat me and destroy me and my family.'	30 Finita questa audace impresa, Giacobbe disse a Simeone e a Levi: « Voi mi procurate grandi affanni, avendomi reso odioso ai Cananei ed ai Ferezei abitatori di questa terra. Noi siam pochi, e se essi uniti insieme mi verranno addosso, io sarò sterminato colla mia famiglia ».
31 They retorted, 'Should our sister be treated like a whore?'	31 E quelli risposero: « Dovevano essi abusare di nostra sorella come di una meretrice? »
