Genesis 34

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Dinah, who was Jacob's daughter by Leah, went out to visit some of the women of that region.	1 Dina, la figlia che Lia aveva partorito a Giacobbe, uscì per andare a vedere le ragazze del paese.
2 Shechem son of Hamor the Hivite, headman of the region, saw her, seized her and forced her tosleep with him.	2 Sichem, figlio di Camor l'eveo, principe di quella regione, la vide e la rapì, giacque con lei e la violentò.
3 He was captivated by Dinah daughter of Jacob; he fel in love with the girl and tried to win her heart.	3 E subito l'anima sua si legò a Dina, figlia di Giacobbe; amò quella giovinetta e parlò al cuore di lei.
4 Accordingly Shechem said to his father Hamor, 'Get me this girl; I want to marry her.'	4 Poi disse a Camor suo padre: "Prendimi in moglie questa ragazza!".
5 Meanwhile, Jacob had heard how his daughter Dinah had been dishonoured, but since his sons wereout in the countryside with his livestock, Jacob said nothing until they came back.	5 Intanto Giacobbe aveva sentito che quello aveva disonorato Dina, sua figlia, ma i suoi figlioli erano nella steppa col bestiame, onde Giacobbe tacque fino al loro arrivo.
6 Hamor father of Shechem was visiting Jacob to discuss the matter with him,	6 Venne dunque Camor, padre di Sichem, da Giacobbe per parlar con lui.
7 when Jacob's sons returned from the countryside and heard the news; the men were outraged andinfuriated that Shechem had insulted Israel by sleeping with Jacob's daughter -- a thing total y unacceptable.	7 Frattanto i figli di Giacobbe erano tornati dalla steppa, e, sentito l'accaduto, ne furono addolorati e s'indignarono assai, perché colui aveva commesso un'infamia in Israele, giacendo con la figlia di Giacobbe: così non si doveva fare!
8 Hamor reasoned with them as fol ows, 'My son Shechem's heart is set on your daughter. Please al owher to marry him.	8 Camor disse loro: "Sichem, mio figlio, è innamorato della vostra figliola: deh, vogliate dargliela in moglie!
9 Intermarry with us; give us your daughters and take our daughters for yourselves.	9 Anzi, imparentatevi con noi: voi ci darete le vostre figlie e vi prenderete le nostre figlie.
10 We can live together, and the country wil be open to you, for you to live in, and move about in, andacquire holdings.'	10 Abiterete con noi e la regione sarà a vostra disposizione; risiedetevi, trafficatevi e acquistate in essa delle proprietà".
11 Then Shechem addressed the girl's father and brothers, 'Grant me this favour, and I will give youwhatever you ask.	11 Poi parlò Sichem al padre e ai fratelli di lei: "Possa io trovare grazia agli occhi vostri, e vi darò quel che mi direte.
12 Demand as high a bride-price from me as you please, and I wil pay as much as you ask. Only let memarry the girl.'	12 Aumentate pure assai a mio carico il prezzo nuziale e il valore del dono, e vi darò quanto mi direte; ma datemi la giovane in moglie!".
13 Jacob's sons gave Shechem and his father Hamor a crafty answer, speaking as they did because hehad dishonoured their sister Dinah.	13 Allora i figli di Giacobbe risposero a Sichem e a suo padre Camor, ma parlarono con astuzia perché egli aveva disonorato Dina, loro sorella.
14 'We cannot do this,' they said to them. 'To give our sister to an uncircumcised man would be adisgrace for us.	14 Dissero loro: "Non possiamo fare questa cosa, dare la nostra sorella a un uomo non circonciso, perché ciò sarebbe un disonore per noi.
15 We can agree only on one condition: that you become like us by circumcising al your males.	15 Solo a questa condizione acconsentiremo a voi, se cioè voi diventerete come noi, circoncidendo ogni maschio tra voi.
16 Then we wil give you our daughters, taking yours for ourselves; and we wil stay with you to makeone nation.	16 Allora noi vi daremo le nostre figlie e ci prenderemo le vostre, abiteremo con voi e diventeremo un sol popolo.
17 But if you will not agree to our terms about being circumcised, we shal take our daughter and go.'	17 Ma se voi non ci ascoltate quanto al farvi circoncidere, allora prenderemo la nostra figliola e ce ne andremo".
18 Hamor and Shechem son of Hamor were pleased with what they heard.	18 Le loro parole piacquero a Camor e a Sichem, suo figlio.
19 The young man did not hesitate about doing this, for he was deeply in love with Jacob's daughter.Moreover he was the most respected member of his entire family.	19 Il giovane non indugiò a fare la cosa, perché amava la figlia di Giacobbe, e d'altra parte era il più influente di tutto il casato di suo padre.
20 Hamor and his son Shechem went to the gate of their town and spoke to their fellow-townsmen asfol ows,	20 Vennero dunque Camor e suo figlio Sichem alla porta della loro città e dissero agli uomini della loro città:
21 'These men are friendly; let them settle in the region and move about freely in it; there is plenty ofroom here for them; we shal marry their daughters and give our daughters to them.	21 "Questi uomini sono gente pacifica con noi: abitino pure nella regione e vi traffichino; tanto, il paese si stende spazioso a loro disposizione; noi potremo prendere per mogli le loro figlie e potremo dare a loro le figlie nostre.
22 But these men will agree to settle with us and become a single nation only on this condition: that alour males be circumcised like them.	22 Ma questa gente ci mette una sola condizione per abitare con noi e diventare un sol popolo: se cioè ogni nostro maschio tra noi si farà circoncidere come essi stessi sono circoncisi.
23 Wil not the livestock they own, al their animals, become ours? Then let us give our assent to this, sothat they can settle with us.'	23 I loro armenti, la loro ricchezza, e tutto il loro bestiame non saranno forse nostri? Accontentiamoli dunque perché possano abitare con noi!".
24 Al the citizens of the town agreed to the proposal made by Hamor and his son Shechem, and al themales were circumcised.	24 Allora tutti quelli che uscivano dalla porta della città ascoltarono Camor e Sichem suo figlio, e tutti i maschi, tutti quelli che uscivano dalla porta della propria città, si fecero circoncidere.
25 Now on the third day, when the men were stil in pain, Jacob's two sons Simeon and Levi, Dinah'sbrothers, each took his sword and advanced unopposed against the town and slaughtered al the males.	25 Or avvenne che al terzo giorno, quand'essi erano sofferenti, i due figli di Giacobbe, Simeone e Levi, fratelli di Dina, presero ciascuno la propria spada, assalirono la città, che si teneva sicura, e uccisero tutti i maschi.
26 They kil ed Hamor and his son Shechem with the sword, removed Dinah from Shechem's house andcame away.	26 Passarono così a fil di spada Camor e suo figlio Sichem, portarono via Dina dalla casa di Sichem e uscirono.
27 When Jacob's other sons came on the slain, they pil aged the town in reprisal for the dishonouring oftheir sister.	27 I figli di Giacobbe si buttarono sugli uccisi e saccheggiarono la città, perché quelli avevano disonorato la loro sorella.
28 They seized their flocks, cattle, donkeys, everything else in the town and in the countryside,	28 Presero così i loro greggi, i loro armenti, i loro asini e tutto quello che vi era nella città e nella campagna.
29 and al their possessions. They took al their children and wives captive and looted everything to befound in the houses.	29 Portarono via come bottino tutte le loro proprietà, tutti i loro piccoli e le loro donne e saccheggiarono tutto quanto v'era nelle case.
30 Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, 'You have done me an il turn by bringing me into bad odour with thepeople of the region, the Canaanites and the Perizzites. I have few men, whereas they wil unite against me todefeat me and destroy me and my family.'	30 Allora Giacobbe disse a Simeone e a Levi: "Voi mi avete messo in affanno, rendendomi odioso agli abitanti della regione, ai Cananei e ai Perizziti, mentre io ho pochi uomini; essi si raduneranno contro di me, mi vinceranno e sarò annientato io e la mia famiglia".
31 They retorted, 'Should our sister be treated like a whore?'	31 Risposero: "Si doveva trattare la nostra sorella come una meretrice?".
