Genesis 34

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Dinah, who was Jacob's daughter by Leah, went out to visit some of the women of that region.	1 Dina, la hija que Lía había dado a Jacob, salió una vez a mirar a las mujeres del país.
2 Shechem son of Hamor the Hivite, headman of the region, saw her, seized her and forced her tosleep with him.	2 Cuando la vio Siquem –que era hijo de Jamor, el jivita, príncipe de aquella región– se la llevó y abusó de ella.
3 He was captivated by Dinah daughter of Jacob; he fel in love with the girl and tried to win her heart.	3 Pero después se sintió atraído por la muchacha y se enamoró de ella, de manera que trató de ganarse su afecto.
4 Accordingly Shechem said to his father Hamor, 'Get me this girl; I want to marry her.'	4 Además, dijo a su padre Jamor: «Consígueme a esa muchacha para que sea mi esposa».
5 Meanwhile, Jacob had heard how his daughter Dinah had been dishonoured, but since his sons wereout in the countryside with his livestock, Jacob said nothing until they came back.	5 Jacob, por su parte, se enteró de que Siquem había violado a su hija Dina, pero como sus hijos estaban en el campo, cuidando el ganado, no dijo nada hasta su regreso.
6 Hamor father of Shechem was visiting Jacob to discuss the matter with him,	6 Entonces Jamor, el padre de Siquem, fue a encontrarse con Jacob para conversar con él.
7 when Jacob's sons returned from the countryside and heard the news; the men were outraged andinfuriated that Shechem had insulted Israel by sleeping with Jacob's daughter -- a thing total y unacceptable.	7 En ese momento, volvieron del campo los hijos de Jacob, y cuanto tuvieron noticia de lo ocurrido, se disgustaron profundamente y se enfurecieron, porque al abusar de la hija de Jacob, Siquem había cometido una infamia contra Israel, y eso no se debe hacer.
8 Hamor reasoned with them as fol ows, 'My son Shechem's heart is set on your daughter. Please al owher to marry him.	8 Pero Jamor les habló en estos términos: «Mi hijo Siquem está realmente enamorado de esta muchacha. Permítanle casarse con ella.
9 Intermarry with us; give us your daughters and take our daughters for yourselves.	9 Conviértanse en parientes nuestros: ustedes nos darán a sus hijas, y obtendrán en cambio las nuestras.
10 We can live together, and the country wil be open to you, for you to live in, and move about in, andacquire holdings.'	10 Así podrán vivir entre nosotros y tendrán el país a su disposición para instalarse en él, para recorrerlo libremente y adquirir propiedades».
11 Then Shechem addressed the girl's father and brothers, 'Grant me this favour, and I will give youwhatever you ask.	11 Después Siquem dijo al padre y a los hermanos de la muchacha: «Si me hacen este favor, yo les daré lo que me pidan.
12 Demand as high a bride-price from me as you please, and I wil pay as much as you ask. Only let memarry the girl.'	12 Aunque me exijan a cambio de ella un precio muy elevado, les pagaré lo que ustedes digan. Pero dejen que me case con la muchacha».
13 Jacob's sons gave Shechem and his father Hamor a crafty answer, speaking as they did because hehad dishonoured their sister Dinah.	13 Sin embargo, como su hermana había sido ultrajada, los hijos de Jacob resolvieron engañar a Siquem y a su padre Jamor,
14 'We cannot do this,' they said to them. 'To give our sister to an uncircumcised man would be adisgrace for us.	14 diciéndoles: «No podemos hacer semejante cosa, porque sería para nosotros una vergüenza entregar nuestra hermana a un incircunciso.
15 We can agree only on one condition: that you become like us by circumcising al your males.	15 Aceptaremos solamente con esta condición: que ustedes se hagan iguales a nosotros, circuncidando a todos sus varones.
16 Then we wil give you our daughters, taking yours for ourselves; and we wil stay with you to makeone nation.	16 Entonces podremos darles a nuestras hijas y casarnos con las de ustedes, vivir entre ustedes y formar un solo pueblo.
17 But if you will not agree to our terms about being circumcised, we shal take our daughter and go.'	17 Si no llegan a un acuerdo con nosotros en lo que se refiere a la circuncisión, tomaremos a nuestra hermana y nos iremos».
18 Hamor and Shechem son of Hamor were pleased with what they heard.	18 La propuesta pareció razonable a Jamor y a su hijo Siquem,
19 The young man did not hesitate about doing this, for he was deeply in love with Jacob's daughter.Moreover he was the most respected member of his entire family.	19 y el joven no dudó un instante en satisfacer esa demanda, tanto era el cariño que sentía por la hija de Jacob. Además, él era el más respetado entre los miembros de su familia.
20 Hamor and his son Shechem went to the gate of their town and spoke to their fellow-townsmen asfol ows,	20 Entonces Jamor y su hijo Siquem se presentaron en la puerta de la ciudad, y hablaron a todos sus conciudadanos en los siguientes términos:
21 'These men are friendly; let them settle in the region and move about freely in it; there is plenty ofroom here for them; we shal marry their daughters and give our daughters to them.	21 «Estos hombres son nuestros amigos. Dejen que se instalen en el país y que puedan recorrerlo libremente; aquí hay bastante espacio para ellos. Nosotros nos casaremos con sus hijas, y les daremos en cambio a las nuestras.
22 But these men will agree to settle with us and become a single nation only on this condition: that alour males be circumcised like them.	22 Pero esta gente accederá a permanecer con nosotros y a formar un solo pueblo, únicamente con esa condición: que todos nuestros varones se hagan circuncidar, igual que ellos.
23 Wil not the livestock they own, al their animals, become ours? Then let us give our assent to this, sothat they can settle with us.'	23 ¿Acaso no van a ser nuestros su ganado, sus posesiones y todos sus animales? Pongámonos de acuerdo con ellos, y que se queden con nosotros».
24 Al the citizens of the town agreed to the proposal made by Hamor and his son Shechem, and al themales were circumcised.	24 Todos los que se reunían en la puerta de la ciudad accedieron a la propuesta de Jamor y de su hijo Siquem, y todos se hicieron circuncidar.
25 Now on the third day, when the men were stil in pain, Jacob's two sons Simeon and Levi, Dinah'sbrothers, each took his sword and advanced unopposed against the town and slaughtered al the males.	25 Al tercer día, cuando todavía estaban convalecientes, Simeón y Leví, dos de los hijos de Jacob, hermanos de Dina, empuñaron cada uno su espada, entraron en la ciudad sin encontrar ninguna resistencia, y mataron a todos los varones.
26 They kil ed Hamor and his son Shechem with the sword, removed Dinah from Shechem's house andcame away.	26 También pasaron al filo de la espada a Jamor y a su hijo Siquem, rescataron a Dina, que estaba en la casa de Siquem, y se fueron.
27 When Jacob's other sons came on the slain, they pil aged the town in reprisal for the dishonouring oftheir sister.	27 Los hijos de Jacob pasaron sobre los cadáveres y saquearon la ciudad, en represalia por el ultraje cometido contra su hermana Dina.
28 They seized their flocks, cattle, donkeys, everything else in the town and in the countryside,	28 Se apoderaron de sus ovejas, de sus vacas, de sus asnos, y de todo lo que había dentro y fuera de la ciudad,
29 and al their possessions. They took al their children and wives captive and looted everything to befound in the houses.	29 y de todos sus bienes. Se llevaron cautivos a todos los niños y a las mujeres, y saquearon todo lo que había en las casas.
30 Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, 'You have done me an il turn by bringing me into bad odour with thepeople of the region, the Canaanites and the Perizzites. I have few men, whereas they wil unite against me todefeat me and destroy me and my family.'	30 Entonces Jacob dijo a Simeón y a Leví: «Ustedes me han puesto en un grave aprieto, haciéndome odioso a los cananeos y perizitas que habitan en este país. Yo dispongo de pocos hombres, y si ellos se unen contra mí y me atacan, seré aniquilado con toda mi familia».
31 They retorted, 'Should our sister be treated like a whore?'	31 Pero ellos replicaron: «Y nuestra hermana, ¿debía ser tratada como una prostituta?».
