Genesis 34

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 Dinah, who was Jacob's daughter by Leah, went out to visit some of the women of that region.	1 - Dina, figlia di Lia, uscì per vedere le donne di quella regione.
2 Shechem son of Hamor the Hivite, headman of the region, saw her, seized her and forced her tosleep with him.	2 Sichem, figlio di Hemor heveo, principe di quella terra, avendola vista, se ne invaghì, la rapì, e con la forza le fece violenza.
3 He was captivated by Dinah daughter of Jacob; he fel in love with the girl and tried to win her heart.	3 Poi, l'anima di lui s'attaccò ad essa, e vedendola triste la consolò con carezze.
4 Accordingly Shechem said to his father Hamor, 'Get me this girl; I want to marry her.'	4 E andato ad Hemor padre suo, disse: «Chiedi per me in moglie questa fanciulla».
5 Meanwhile, Jacob had heard how his daughter Dinah had been dishonoured, but since his sons wereout in the countryside with his livestock, Jacob said nothing until they came back.	5 Il che avendo udito Giacobbe, nell'assenza dei figli occupati a pascer gli armenti, tacque finchè furon tornati.
6 Hamor father of Shechem was visiting Jacob to discuss the matter with him,	6 Uscito Hemor padre di Sichem, per parlare a Giacobbe,
7 when Jacob's sons returned from the countryside and heard the news; the men were outraged andinfuriated that Shechem had insulted Israel by sleeping with Jacob's daughter -- a thing total y unacceptable.	7 ecco i suoi figli tornavan dai campi. Udito quel che era avvenuto, s'adirarono grandemente, perchè quegli aveva commesso un misfatto.
8 Hamor reasoned with them as fol ows, 'My son Shechem's heart is set on your daughter. Please al owher to marry him.	8 Hemor pertanto disse loro: «L'anima di Sichem mio figlio, s'è attaccata alla vostra figliuola; dategliela in moglie,
9 Intermarry with us; give us your daughters and take our daughters for yourselves.	9 e stringiamo vicendevoli maritaggi; dateci le vostre figliuole, prendete le figliuole nostre,
10 We can live together, and the country wil be open to you, for you to live in, and move about in, andacquire holdings.'	10 ed abitate fra noi; la terra è in vostro potere, lavoratela, industriatevi, possedetela».
11 Then Shechem addressed the girl's father and brothers, 'Grant me this favour, and I will give youwhatever you ask.	11 Anche Sichem diceva al padre ed ai fratelli di lei: «Ch'io trovi favore innanzi a voi, e vi darò tutto quel che chiederete.
12 Demand as high a bride-price from me as you please, and I wil pay as much as you ask. Only let memarry the girl.'	12 Chiedete pur grande la dote, e grandi donativi, e volentieri darò quanto richiederete; soltanto, datemi in moglie questa fanciulla».
13 Jacob's sons gave Shechem and his father Hamor a crafty answer, speaking as they did because hehad dishonoured their sister Dinah.	13 I figli di Giacobbe, esacerbati per la violenza fatta alla sorella, risposero a Sichem ed al padre suo con inganno:
14 'We cannot do this,' they said to them. 'To give our sister to an uncircumcised man would be adisgrace for us.	14 «Non possiamo fare quel che domandate, nè dare la nostra sorella ad un incirconciso; che è cosa illecita ed obbrobriosa per noi.
15 We can agree only on one condition: that you become like us by circumcising al your males.	15 Ma potremo fare alleanza con voi, se vorrete far come noi, e circoncidere tutti i vostri maschi.
16 Then we wil give you our daughters, taking yours for ourselves; and we wil stay with you to makeone nation.	16 Allora ci daremo e prenderemo scambievolmente le figliuole vostre e le nostre, abiteremo con voi, e formeremo un sol popolo.
17 But if you will not agree to our terms about being circumcised, we shal take our daughter and go.'	17 Ma se non vorrete essere circoncisi, riprenderemo le nostre figliuole, e ce ne andremo via».
18 Hamor and Shechem son of Hamor were pleased with what they heard.	18 Piacque la loro proposta ad Hemor ed a Sichem suo figlio.
19 The young man did not hesitate about doing this, for he was deeply in love with Jacob's daughter.Moreover he was the most respected member of his entire family.	19 Nè differì il giovane, ma subito fece quanto gli era richiesto; amava infatti molto la fanciulla, ed era molto considerato nella casa del padre suo.
20 Hamor and his son Shechem went to the gate of their town and spoke to their fellow-townsmen asfol ows,	20 Tornati dunque alla porta della città dissero al popolo:
21 'These men are friendly; let them settle in the region and move about freely in it; there is plenty ofroom here for them; we shal marry their daughters and give our daughters to them.	21 «Questi uomini sono pacifici, e vogliono abitare fra noi; traffichino in questa terra, e la lavorino, che è grande e vasta, ed ha bisogno di coltivatori; noi prenderemo in mogli le loro figliuole, e daremo a loro le nostre.
22 But these men will agree to settle with us and become a single nation only on this condition: that alour males be circumcised like them.	22 Una cosa sola manca a conseguire un tanto bene: che circoncidiamo i nostri maschi, imitando il costume della loro gente;
23 Wil not the livestock they own, al their animals, become ours? Then let us give our assent to this, sothat they can settle with us.'	23 allora, i loro averi ed armenti, e tutti i loro beni saranno nostri; adattiamoci a questa cosa sola, ed abitando con loro faremo un sol popolo».
24 Al the citizens of the town agreed to the proposal made by Hamor and his son Shechem, and al themales were circumcised.	24 Tutti acconsentirono, e tutti i maschi furon circoncisi.
25 Now on the third day, when the men were stil in pain, Jacob's two sons Simeon and Levi, Dinah'sbrothers, each took his sword and advanced unopposed against the town and slaughtered al the males.	25 Ed ecco, al terzo giorno, quando è più forte il dolore delle ferite, i due figli di Giacobbe Simeone e Levi, fratelli di Dina, impugnate le spade, entrarono nella città senza timore; uccisero tutti i maschi,
26 They kil ed Hamor and his son Shechem with the sword, removed Dinah from Shechem's house andcame away.	26 uccisero anche Hemor e Sichem, e portaron via dalla casa di Sichem la propria sorella Dina.
27 When Jacob's other sons came on the slain, they pil aged the town in reprisal for the dishonouring oftheir sister.	27 Usciti essi, gli altri figli di Giacobbe irruppero sui caduti, e devastarono la città per vendicare l'oltraggio.
28 They seized their flocks, cattle, donkeys, everything else in the town and in the countryside,	28 Rapirono le loro pecore, gli armenti, gli asini, tutto quello che v'era per le case e nei campi,
29 and al their possessions. They took al their children and wives captive and looted everything to befound in the houses.	29 e fecero prigionieri i fanciulli e le donne.
30 Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, 'You have done me an il turn by bringing me into bad odour with thepeople of the region, the Canaanites and the Perizzites. I have few men, whereas they wil unite against me todefeat me and destroy me and my family.'	30 Il che avendo ferocemente compiuto, disse Giacobbe a Simeone e Levi: «Voi mi avete addolorato, e m'avete reso odioso ai Cananei e Ferezei abitatori di queste terre. Noi siamo pochi: quelli si raduneranno, e mi assaliranno, e perirò io con la mia casa».
31 They retorted, 'Should our sister be treated like a whore?'	31 Risposero: «Dovevan forse abusare della nostra sorella, come di una cortigiana?».
