Genesis 34

NEW JERUSALEM	DIODATI
1 Dinah, who was Jacob's daughter by Leah, went out to visit some of the women of that region.	1 OR Dina, figliuola di Lea, la quale ella avea partorita a Giacobbe, uscì fuori, per veder le donne del paese.
2 Shechem son of Hamor the Hivite, headman of the region, saw her, seized her and forced her tosleep with him.	2 E Sichem, figliuolo d’Hemor, Hivveo, principe del paese, vedutala, la rapì, e si giacque con lei, e la sforzò.
3 He was captivated by Dinah daughter of Jacob; he fel in love with the girl and tried to win her heart.	3 E l’animo suo si apprese a Dina, figliuola di Giacobbe; ed amò quella giovane, e la racconsolò.
4 Accordingly Shechem said to his father Hamor, 'Get me this girl; I want to marry her.'	4 Poi disse ad Hemor, suo padre: Prendimi questa giovane per moglie.
5 Meanwhile, Jacob had heard how his daughter Dinah had been dishonoured, but since his sons wereout in the countryside with his livestock, Jacob said nothing until they came back.	5 E Giacobbe intese che Sichem avea contaminata Dina, sua figliuola; ed essendo i suoi figliuoli a’ campi col suo bestiame, Giacobbe si tacque finchè fosser venuti
6 Hamor father of Shechem was visiting Jacob to discuss the matter with him,	6 Ed Hemor, padre di Sichem, venne a Giacobbe, per parlarne con lui.
7 when Jacob's sons returned from the countryside and heard the news; the men were outraged andinfuriated that Shechem had insulted Israel by sleeping with Jacob's daughter -- a thing total y unacceptable.	7 E quando i figliuoli di Giacobbe ebbero inteso il fatto, se ne vennero da’ campi; e quegli uomini furono addolorati, e gravemente adirati, che colui avesse commessa villania in Israele, giacendosi con la figliuola di Giacobbe; il che non si conveniva fare.
8 Hamor reasoned with them as fol ows, 'My son Shechem's heart is set on your daughter. Please al owher to marry him.	8 Ed Hemor parlò con loro, dicendo: Sichem, mio figliuolo, ha posto il suo amore alla figliuola di casa vostra; deh! dategliela per moglie.
9 Intermarry with us; give us your daughters and take our daughters for yourselves.	9 Ed imparentatevi con noi; dateci le vostre figliuole, e prendetevi le nostre.
10 We can live together, and the country wil be open to you, for you to live in, and move about in, andacquire holdings.'	10 Ed abitate con noi; e il paese sarà a vostro comando; dimoratevi, e trafficatevi, ed acquistate delle possessioni in esso.
11 Then Shechem addressed the girl's father and brothers, 'Grant me this favour, and I will give youwhatever you ask.	11 Sichem ancora disse al padre ed a’ fratelli di essa: Lasciate che io trovi grazia appo voi; ed io darò ciò che mi direte.
12 Demand as high a bride-price from me as you please, and I wil pay as much as you ask. Only let memarry the girl.'	12 Imponetemi pur gran dote e presenti, ed io li darò, secondo che mi direte; e datemi la fanciulla per moglie.
13 Jacob's sons gave Shechem and his father Hamor a crafty answer, speaking as they did because hehad dishonoured their sister Dinah.	13 E i figliuoli di Giacobbe risposero a Sichem, e ad Hemor suo padre, con inganno, e lo trattennero con parole; perciocchè egli avea contaminata Dina, lor sorella.
14 'We cannot do this,' they said to them. 'To give our sister to an uncircumcised man would be adisgrace for us.	14 E disser loro: Noi non possiam far questa cosa, di dar la nostra sorella ad un uomo incirconciso; perciocchè il prepuzio ci è cosa vituperosa.
15 We can agree only on one condition: that you become like us by circumcising al your males.	15 Ma pur vi compiaceremo con questo, che voi siate come noi, circoncidendosi ogni maschio d’infra voi.
16 Then we wil give you our daughters, taking yours for ourselves; and we wil stay with you to makeone nation.	16 Allora noi vi daremo le nostre figliuole, e ci prenderemo le vostre, ed abiteremo con voi, e diventeremo uno stesso popolo.
17 But if you will not agree to our terms about being circumcised, we shal take our daughter and go.'	17 Ma se voi non ci acconsentite di circoncidervi, noi prenderemo la nostra fanciulla, e ce ne andremo
18 Hamor and Shechem son of Hamor were pleased with what they heard.	18 E le lor parole piacquero ad Hemor, ed a Sichem figliuolo d’Hemor.
19 The young man did not hesitate about doing this, for he was deeply in love with Jacob's daughter.Moreover he was the most respected member of his entire family.	19 E quel giovane non indugiò il far questa cosa; perciocchè egli portava affezione alla figliuola di Giacobbe; ed egli era il più onorato di tutta la casa di suo padre.
20 Hamor and his son Shechem went to the gate of their town and spoke to their fellow-townsmen asfol ows,	20 Ed Hemor, e Sichem suo figliuolo, vennero alla porta della città, e parlarono agli uomini della lor città, dicendo:
21 'These men are friendly; let them settle in the region and move about freely in it; there is plenty ofroom here for them; we shal marry their daughters and give our daughters to them.	21 Questi uomini vivono pacificamente con noi, e dimoreranno nel paese, e vi trafficheranno; ed ecco il paese è ampio assai per loro; e noi ci prenderemo le lor figliuole per mogli, e daremo loro le nostre.
22 But these men will agree to settle with us and become a single nation only on this condition: that alour males be circumcised like them.	22 Ma pure a questi patti ci compiaceranno di abitar con noi, per diventare uno stesso popolo, che ogni maschio d’infra noi sia circonciso, siccome essi son circoncisi.
23 Wil not the livestock they own, al their animals, become ours? Then let us give our assent to this, sothat they can settle with us.'	23 Il lor bestiame, e le lor facoltà, e tutte le lor bestie non saranno elle nostre? compiacciamo pur loro, ed essi abiteranno con noi.
24 Al the citizens of the town agreed to the proposal made by Hamor and his son Shechem, and al themales were circumcised.	24 E tutti quelli che uscivano per la porta della lor città, acconsentirono loro; e ogni maschio d’infra tutti quelli che uscivano per la porta della lor città, fu circonciso
25 Now on the third day, when the men were stil in pain, Jacob's two sons Simeon and Levi, Dinah'sbrothers, each took his sword and advanced unopposed against the town and slaughtered al the males.	25 E al terzo giorno, mentre essi erano in dolore, due figliuoli di Giacobbe, Simeone e Levi fratelli di Dina, presa ciascuno la sua spada, assalirono a man salva la città, ed uccisero tutti i maschi.
26 They kil ed Hamor and his son Shechem with the sword, removed Dinah from Shechem's house andcame away.	26 Uccisero ancora Hemor e Sichem suo figliuolo, mettendoli a fil di spada; e presero Dina della casa di Sichem, e se ne uscirono.
27 When Jacob's other sons came on the slain, they pil aged the town in reprisal for the dishonouring oftheir sister.	27 Dopo che coloro furono uccisi, sopraggiunsero i figliuoli di Giacobbe, e predarono la città; perciocchè la lor sorella era stata contaminata.
28 They seized their flocks, cattle, donkeys, everything else in the town and in the countryside,	28 E presero le lor gregge, e i loro armenti, e i loro asini, e ciò ch’era nella città e per li campi.
29 and al their possessions. They took al their children and wives captive and looted everything to befound in the houses.	29 Così predarono tutte le facoltà de’ Sichemiti, e tutto ciò ch’era nelle case, e menarono prigioni i lor piccoli figliuoli e le lor mogli.
30 Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, 'You have done me an il turn by bringing me into bad odour with thepeople of the region, the Canaanites and the Perizzites. I have few men, whereas they wil unite against me todefeat me and destroy me and my family.'	30 E Giacobbe disse a Simeone ed a Levi: Voi mi avete messo in gran turbamento, rendendomi abbominevole agli abitanti di questo paese, a’ Cananei, ed a’ Ferezei; laonde, avendo io poca gente, essi si rauneranno contro a me, e mi percoteranno; e sarò distrutto io e la mia famiglia.
31 They retorted, 'Should our sister be treated like a whore?'	31 Ed essi dissero: Avrebbe egli fatto della nostra sorella come d’una meretrice?
