1 Dinah, who was Jacob's daughter by Leah, went out to visit some of the women of that region.	1 Ma Dina figliuola di Lia uscì di casa per vedere le donne di quel paese.
2 Shechem son of Hamor the Hivite, headman of the region, saw her, seized her and forced her tosleep with him.	2 E avendola veduta Sichem figliuolo di Hemor Heveo, principe di quella terra, se ne innamorò: e rapilla, e violentemente disonorò la fanciulla.
3 He was captivated by Dinah daughter of Jacob; he fel in love with the girl and tried to win her heart.	3 E concepì per lei un'ardente passione, ed essendo ella afflitta l'acquietò con carezze.
4 Accordingly Shechem said to his father Hamor, 'Get me this girl; I want to marry her.'	4 E andato dal padre suo Hemor: Prendi, disse, per me in moglie questa fanciulla.
5 Meanwhile, Jacob had heard how his daughter Dinah had been dishonoured, but since his sons wereout in the countryside with his livestock, Jacob said nothing until they came back.	5 La qual cosa avendo udita Giacobbe, mentre i figli erano assenti, e occupati a pascer le pecore, si tacque finché non furon tornati.
6 Hamor father of Shechem was visiting Jacob to discuss the matter with him,	6 Ma essendo andato Hemor, padre di Sichem, a parlare a Giacobbe;
7 when Jacob's sons returned from the countryside and heard the news; the men were outraged andinfuriated that Shechem had insulted Israel by sleeping with Jacob's daughter -- a thing total y unacceptable.	7 Eccoti che i figliuoli di lui tornavan dalla campagna: e inteso quel ch'era avvenuto, ne concepirono grande sdegno, perché sì brutta cosa avesse fatta (Sichem) contro Israele, e violata la figliuola di Giacobbe, avesse commesso un'azione vituperosa.
8 Hamor reasoned with them as fol ows, 'My son Shechem's heart is set on your daughter. Please al owher to marry him.	8 Disse pertanto ad essi Hemor: L'anima di Sichem mio figlio è unita inseparabilmente a questa vostra fanciulla: dategliela in moglie.
9 Intermarry with us; give us your daughters and take our daughters for yourselves.	9 E facciamo scambievoli matrimoni; date le vostre fanciulle a noi, e sposate delle nostre fanciulle.
10 We can live together, and the country wil be open to you, for you to live in, and move about in, andacquire holdings.'	10 E abitate tra noi: la terra è in poter vostro, lavoratela, trafficate, voi siete i padroni.
11 Then Shechem addressed the girl's father and brothers, 'Grant me this favour, and I will give youwhatever you ask.	11 Anzi lo stesso Sichem disse al padre, e a' fratelli di lei: Piegatevi a' miei desideri, e darò tutto quello che vi parrà.
12 Demand as high a bride-price from me as you please, and I wil pay as much as you ask. Only let memarry the girl.'	12 Augumentate la dote, e chiedete donora, e volentieri darò quello che chiederete: purché mi diate in moglie questa fanciulla.
13 Jacob's sons gave Shechem and his father Hamor a crafty answer, speaking as they did because hehad dishonoured their sister Dinah.	13 Risposero i figliuoli di Giacobbe a Sichem, e al padre di lui con fraude, essendo esacerbati pel disonore della sorella:
14 'We cannot do this,' they said to them. 'To give our sister to an uncircumcised man would be adisgrace for us.	14 Non possiam fare quello che voi bramate, né dar la nostra sorella ad un uomo incirconciso: la qual cosa è illecita, e abbominevole presso di noi.
15 We can agree only on one condition: that you become like us by circumcising al your males.	15 Ma potrem fare alleanza con questa condizione, se vorrete farvi simili a noi, e se si circoncideranno tra voi tutti i maschi;
16 Then we wil give you our daughters, taking yours for ourselves; and we wil stay with you to makeone nation.	16 Allora vi daremo le nostre fanciulle, e prenderem parimente le vostre: e abiteremo con voi, e faremo un sol popolo.
17 But if you will not agree to our terms about being circumcised, we shal take our daughter and go.'	17 Ma se non vorrete circoncidervi, prenderemo la nostra fanciulla, e ce ne anderemo.
18 Hamor and Shechem son of Hamor were pleased with what they heard.	18 Piacque la loro offerta ad Hemor, e a Sichem suo figliuolo.
19 The young man did not hesitate about doing this, for he was deeply in love with Jacob's daughter.Moreover he was the most respected member of his entire family.	19 E il giovane non differì ad eseguire quello che era stato richiesto: perocché amava grandemente la fanciulla, ed egli era in grande onore presso tutta la famiglia del padre suo.
20 Hamor and his son Shechem went to the gate of their town and spoke to their fellow-townsmen asfol ows,	20 Ed entrati dentro la porta della città, dissero al popolo:
21 'These men are friendly; let them settle in the region and move about freely in it; there is plenty ofroom here for them; we shal marry their daughters and give our daughters to them.	21 Costoro son buona gente, e amano di abitare tra noi: trafficheranno qui, e lavoreranno la terra, la quale, spaziosa e vasta com'è, ha bisogno di coltivatori: noi sposeremo le loro fanciulle, e daremo loro delle nostre.
22 But these men will agree to settle with us and become a single nation only on this condition: that alour males be circumcised like them.	22 Una sola cosa è d'ostacolo a un bene si grande: vuolsi, che noi circoncidiamo i nostri maschi, imitando il rito di questa gente.
23 Wil not the livestock they own, al their animals, become ours? Then let us give our assent to this, sothat they can settle with us.'	23 Con questo saran nostre le loro ricchezze, e i bestiami, e tutto quello ch'ei posseggono: accordiamoci solo in questo, e vivendo insieme faremo un sol popolo.
24 Al the citizens of the town agreed to the proposal made by Hamor and his son Shechem, and al themales were circumcised.	24 Diedero tutti il loro assenso, e circoncisero tutti i maschi.
25 Now on the third day, when the men were stil in pain, Jacob's two sons Simeon and Levi, Dinah'sbrothers, each took his sword and advanced unopposed against the town and slaughtered al the males.	25 Ed ecco il terzo giorno, quando il dolore delle ferite è più acerbo, i due figli di Giacobbe, Simeone, e Levi, fratelli di Dina, impugnate le spade, entrarono a man salva nella città: e uccisi tutti i maschi,
26 They kil ed Hamor and his son Shechem with the sword, removed Dinah from Shechem's house andcame away.	26 Trucidarono anche Hemor, e Sichem, e tolsero Dina loro sorella dalla casa di Sichem.
27 When Jacob's other sons came on the slain, they pil aged the town in reprisal for the dishonouring oftheir sister.	27 E quando questi si furono ritirati, gli altri figliuoli di Giacobbe si gettarono sopra gli uccisi: e saccheggiarono la città per vendetta dello stupro.
28 They seized their flocks, cattle, donkeys, everything else in the town and in the countryside,	28 Preser le loro pecore, e gli armenti, e gli asini, e diedero il guasto a quanto era per le case, e alla campagna.
29 and al their possessions. They took al their children and wives captive and looted everything to befound in the houses.	29 E menarono anche schiavi i fanciulli, e le donne loro.
30 Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, 'You have done me an il turn by bringing me into bad odour with thepeople of the region, the Canaanites and the Perizzites. I have few men, whereas they wil unite against me todefeat me and destroy me and my family.'	30 Eseguite che ebbero essi queste cose con tanta audacia disse Giacobbe a Simeon, e a Levi: Voi mi avete posto in affanno, e mi avete renduto odioso ai Chananei, e a' Pherezei, abitatori di questa terra: noi siam pochi: quegli uniti insieme mi verranno addosso, e io sarò sterminato con la mia famiglia.
31 They retorted, 'Should our sister be treated like a whore?'	31 Risposer quegli: E dovean essi trattar la nostra sorella come una donna di mal affare?
