Genesis 34

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA CEI 2008
1 Dinah, who was Jacob's daughter by Leah, went out to visit some of the women of that region.	1 Dina, la figlia che Lia aveva partorito a Giacobbe, uscì a vedere le ragazze del posto.
2 Shechem son of Hamor the Hivite, headman of the region, saw her, seized her and forced her tosleep with him.	2 Ma la notò Sichem, figlio di Camor l’Eveo, principe di quel territorio, la rapì e si coricò con lei facendole violenza.
3 He was captivated by Dinah daughter of Jacob; he fel in love with the girl and tried to win her heart.	3 Ma poi egli rimase legato a Dina, figlia di Giacobbe; s’innamorò della giovane e le rivolse parole di conforto.
4 Accordingly Shechem said to his father Hamor, 'Get me this girl; I want to marry her.'	4 Quindi disse a Camor, suo padre: «Prendimi in moglie questa ragazza».
5 Meanwhile, Jacob had heard how his daughter Dinah had been dishonoured, but since his sons wereout in the countryside with his livestock, Jacob said nothing until they came back.	5 Intanto Giacobbe aveva saputo che quello aveva disonorato sua figlia Dina, ma i suoi figli erano in campagna con il suo bestiame, e Giacobbe tacque fino al loro arrivo.
6 Hamor father of Shechem was visiting Jacob to discuss the matter with him,	6 Venne dunque Camor, padre di Sichem, da Giacobbe per parlare con lui.
7 when Jacob's sons returned from the countryside and heard the news; the men were outraged andinfuriated that Shechem had insulted Israel by sleeping with Jacob's daughter -- a thing total y unacceptable.	7 Quando i figli di Giacobbe tornarono dalla campagna, sentito l’accaduto, ne furono addolorati e s’indignarono molto, perché quegli, coricandosi con la figlia di Giacobbe, aveva commesso un’infamia in Israele: così non si doveva fare!
8 Hamor reasoned with them as fol ows, 'My son Shechem's heart is set on your daughter. Please al owher to marry him.	8 Camor disse loro: «Sichem, mio figlio, è innamorato della vostra figlia; vi prego, dategliela in moglie!
9 Intermarry with us; give us your daughters and take our daughters for yourselves.	9 Anzi, imparentatevi con noi: voi darete a noi le vostre figlie e vi prenderete per voi le nostre figlie.
10 We can live together, and the country wil be open to you, for you to live in, and move about in, andacquire holdings.'	10 Abiterete con noi e la terra sarà a vostra disposizione; potrete risiedervi, percorrerla in lungo e in largo e acquistare proprietà».
11 Then Shechem addressed the girl's father and brothers, 'Grant me this favour, and I will give youwhatever you ask.	11 Sichem disse al padre e ai fratelli di lei: «Possa io trovare grazia agli occhi vostri; vi darò quel che mi direte.
12 Demand as high a bride-price from me as you please, and I wil pay as much as you ask. Only let memarry the girl.'	12 Alzate pure molto a mio carico il prezzo nuziale e il valore del dono; vi darò quanto mi chiederete, ma concedetemi la giovane in moglie!».
13 Jacob's sons gave Shechem and his father Hamor a crafty answer, speaking as they did because hehad dishonoured their sister Dinah.	13 Allora i figli di Giacobbe risposero a Sichem e a suo padre Camor e parlarono con inganno, poiché quegli aveva disonorato la loro sorella Dina.
14 'We cannot do this,' they said to them. 'To give our sister to an uncircumcised man would be adisgrace for us.	14 Dissero loro: «Non possiamo fare questo, dare la nostra sorella a un uomo non circonciso, perché ciò sarebbe un disonore per noi.
15 We can agree only on one condition: that you become like us by circumcising al your males.	15 Acconsentiremo alla vostra richiesta solo a questa condizione: diventare come noi, circoncidendo ogni vostro maschio.
16 Then we wil give you our daughters, taking yours for ourselves; and we wil stay with you to makeone nation.	16 In tal caso noi vi daremo le nostre figlie e ci prenderemo le vostre, abiteremo con voi e diventeremo un solo popolo.
17 But if you will not agree to our terms about being circumcised, we shal take our daughter and go.'	17 Ma se voi non ci ascoltate a proposito della nostra circoncisione, prenderemo la nostra ragazza e ce ne andremo».
18 Hamor and Shechem son of Hamor were pleased with what they heard.	18 Le loro parole piacquero a Camor e a Sichem, figlio di Camor.
19 The young man did not hesitate about doing this, for he was deeply in love with Jacob's daughter.Moreover he was the most respected member of his entire family.	19 Il giovane non indugiò a eseguire la cosa, perché amava la figlia di Giacobbe; d’altra parte era il più onorato di tutto il casato di suo padre.
20 Hamor and his son Shechem went to the gate of their town and spoke to their fellow-townsmen asfol ows,	20 Vennero dunque Camor e il figlio Sichem alla porta della loro città e parlarono agli uomini della città:
21 'These men are friendly; let them settle in the region and move about freely in it; there is plenty ofroom here for them; we shal marry their daughters and give our daughters to them.	21 «Questi uomini sono gente pacifica con noi: abitino pure con noi nel territorio e lo percorrano in lungo e in largo; esso è molto ampio per loro in ogni direzione. Noi potremo prendere in moglie le loro figlie e potremo dare loro le nostre.
22 But these men will agree to settle with us and become a single nation only on this condition: that alour males be circumcised like them.	22 Ma questi uomini a una condizione acconsentiranno ad abitare con noi, per diventare un unico popolo: se noi circoncidiamo ogni nostro maschio come loro stessi sono circoncisi.
23 Wil not the livestock they own, al their animals, become ours? Then let us give our assent to this, sothat they can settle with us.'	23 I loro armenti, la loro ricchezza e tutto il loro bestiame non diverranno forse nostri? Accontentiamoli dunque, e possano abitare con noi!».
24 Al the citizens of the town agreed to the proposal made by Hamor and his son Shechem, and al themales were circumcised.	24 Quanti si radunavano alla porta della sua città ascoltarono Camor e il figlio Sichem: tutti i maschi, quanti si radunavano alla porta della città, si fecero circoncidere.
25 Now on the third day, when the men were stil in pain, Jacob's two sons Simeon and Levi, Dinah'sbrothers, each took his sword and advanced unopposed against the town and slaughtered al the males.	25 Ma il terzo giorno, quand’essi erano sofferenti, i due figli di Giacobbe, Simeone e Levi, i fratelli di Dina, presero ciascuno la propria spada, entrarono indisturbati nella città e uccisero tutti i maschi.
26 They kil ed Hamor and his son Shechem with the sword, removed Dinah from Shechem's house andcame away.	26 Passarono così a fil di spada Camor e suo figlio Sichem, portarono via Dina dalla casa di Sichem e si allontanarono.
27 When Jacob's other sons came on the slain, they pil aged the town in reprisal for the dishonouring oftheir sister.	27 I figli di Giacobbe si buttarono sui cadaveri e saccheggiarono la città, perché quelli avevano disonorato la loro sorella.
28 They seized their flocks, cattle, donkeys, everything else in the town and in the countryside,	28 Presero le loro greggi e i loro armenti, i loro asini e quanto era nella città e nella campagna.
29 and al their possessions. They took al their children and wives captive and looted everything to befound in the houses.	29 Portarono via come bottino tutte le loro ricchezze, tutti i loro bambini e le loro donne e saccheggiarono quanto era nelle case.
30 Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, 'You have done me an il turn by bringing me into bad odour with thepeople of the region, the Canaanites and the Perizzites. I have few men, whereas they wil unite against me todefeat me and destroy me and my family.'	30 Allora Giacobbe disse a Simeone e a Levi: «Voi mi avete rovinato, rendendomi odioso agli abitanti della regione, ai Cananei e ai Perizziti. Io ho solo pochi uomini; se essi si raduneranno contro di me, mi vinceranno e io sarò annientato con la mia casa».
31 They retorted, 'Should our sister be treated like a whore?'	31 Risposero: «Si tratta forse la nostra sorella come una prostituta?».
