Genesis 25

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Abraham married another wife whose name was Keturah;	1 Abraham se casó con otra mujer, llamada Queturá,
2 and she bore him Zimram, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak and Shuah.	2 y esta le dio varios hijos: Zimrán, Iocsán, Medán, Madián, Isbac y Súaj.
3 Jokshan was the father of Sheba and Dedan, and the descendants of Dedan were the Asshurites, theLetushim and the Leummim.	3 Iocsán fue padre de Sebá y Dedán. Los descendientes de Dedán fueron los asuritas, los letusíes y los leumíes.
4 The descendants of Midian were Ephah, Epher, Hanoch, Abida and Eldaah. Al these were sons ofKeturah.	4 Los hijos de Madián fueron Efá, Efer, Henoc, Abidá y Eldaá. Todos estos son hijos de Queturá.
5 Abraham left al his possessions to Isaac.	5 Abraham legó todos sus bienes a Isaac.
6 To the sons of his concubines Abraham made grants during his lifetime, sending them away from hisson Isaac eastward, to the Land of the East.	6 También hizo regalos a los hijos de sus otras mujeres, pero mientras vivía, los apartó de su hijo Isaac, enviándolos hacia el este, a las regiones orientales.
7 The number of years Abraham lived was a hundred and seventy-five.	7 Abraham vivió ciento setenta y cinco años.
8 When Abraham had breathed his last, dying at a happy ripe age, old and ful of years, he wasgathered to his people.	8 Murió a una edad muy avanzada, feliz y cargado de años, y fue a reunirse con los suyos.
9 His sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah facing Mamre, in the field of Ephronthe Hittite son of Zohar.	9 Sus hijos Isaac e Ismael lo sepultaron en la caverna de Macpelá, en el campo de Efrón, hijo de Sójar, el hitita, que está frente a Mamré.
10 This was the field that Abraham had bought from the Hittites, and Abraham and his wife Sarah wereburied there.	10 Es el campo que Abraham había comprado a los descendientes de Het. Allí fueron enterrados él y su esposa Sara.
11 After Abraham's death, God blessed his son Isaac. Isaac settled near the wel of Lahai Roi.	11 Después de la muerte de Abraham, Dios bendijo a su hijo Isaac, y este se estableció cerca del pozo de Lajai Roí.
12 These are the descendants of Ishmael son of Abraham by Hagar, Sarah's Egyptian slave-girl.	12 Esta es la descendencia de Ismael –el hijo de Agar, la sirvienta egipcia de Sara, dio a Abraham–
13 These are the names of the sons of Ishmael by name and line: Ishmael's first-born was Nebaioth;then Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam,	13 con los nombres de cada uno de sus hijos, según el orden de su nacimiento: Nebaiot, el primogénito de Ismael; luego Quedar, Abdeel, Mibsam,
14 Mishma, Dumah, Massa,	14 Mismá, Dumá, Masá,
15 Hadad, Tema, Jetur, Naphish and Kedemah.	15 Jadad, Temá, Ietur, Nafis y Quedmá.
16 These are the sons of Ishmael, and these are their names, according to their settlements andencampments, twelve chiefs of as many tribes.	16 Estos son los hijos de Ismael; doce jefes de otras tantas tribus, que dieron sus nombres al lugar donde habitaron y a sus respectivos campamentos.
17 The number of years Ishmael lived was one hundred and thirty-seven. When he breathed his lastand died, he was gathered to his people.	17 Ismael vivió ciento treinta y siete años. Al cabo de ellos murió, y fue a reunirse con los suyos.
18 He lived in the territory stretching from Havilah-by-Shur just outside Egypt on the way to Assyria, andhe held his own against all his kinsmen.	18 Sus descendientes habitaron desde Javilá de Sur, que está cerca de Egipto, hasta Asur. Y cada uno de ellos realizó incursiones contra todos sus hermanos.
19 This is the story of Isaac son of Abraham. Abraham fathered Isaac.	19 Esta es la descendencia de Isaac, el hijo de Abraham. Abraham fue padre de Isaac,
20 Isaac was forty years old when he married Rebekah the daughter of Bethuel the Aramaean ofPaddan-Aram, and sister of Laban the Aramaean.	20 el cual, a los cuarenta años, se casó con Rebeca, hija de Betuel, el arameo de Padán Aram, y hermana de Labán, el arameo.
21 Isaac prayed to Yahweh on behalf of his wife, for she was barren. Yahweh heard his prayer, and hiswife Rebekah conceived.	21 Isaac oró al Señor por su esposa, que era estéril. El Señor lo escuchó, y su esposa Rebeca quedó embarazada.
22 But the children inside her struggled so much that she said, 'If this is the way of it, why go on living?'So she went to consult Yahweh,	22 Como los niños se chocaban el uno contra el otro dentro de su seno, ella exclamó: «Si las cosas tienen que ser así, ¿vale la pena seguir viviendo?». Entonces fue a consultar al Señor,
23 and Yahweh said to her: There are two nations in your womb, your issue wil be two rival peoples.One nation wil have the mastery of the other, and the elder wil serve the younger.	23 y él le respondió: «En tu seno hay dos naciones, dos pueblos se separan desde tus entrañas: uno será mas fuerte que el otro, y el mayor servirá al menor».
24 When the time came for her confinement, there were indeed twins in her womb.	24 Cuando llegó el momento del parto, resultó que había mellizos en su seno.
25 The first to be born was red, altogether like a hairy cloak; so they named him Esau.	25 El que salió primero era rubio, y estaba todo cubierto de vello, como si tuviera un manto de piel. A este lo llamaron Esaú.
26 Then his brother was born, with his hand grasping Esau's heel; so they named him Jacob. Isaac wassixty years old at the time of their birth.	26 Después salió su hermano, que con su mano tenía agarrado el talón de Esaú. Por ello lo llamaron Jacob. Cuando nacieron, Isaac tenía sesenta años.
27 When the boys grew up Esau became a skil ed hunter, a man of the open country. Jacob on theother hand was a quiet man, staying at home among the tents.	27 Los niños crecieron. Esaú se convirtió en un hombre agreste, experto en la caza. Jacob, en cambio, era un hombre apacible y apegado a su carpa.
28 Isaac preferred Esau, for he had a taste for wild game; but Rebekah preferred Jacob.	28 Isaac quería más a Esaú, porque las presas de caza eran su plato preferido; pero Rebeca sentía más cariño por Jacob.
29 Once, when Jacob was cooking a stew, Esau returned from the countryside exhausted.	29 En cierta ocasión, Esaú volvió exhausto del campo, mientras Jacob estaba preparando un guiso.
30 Esau said to Jacob, 'Give me a mouthful of that red stuff there; I am exhausted' -- hence the namegiven to him, Edom.	30 Esaú dijo a Jacob: «Déjame comer un poco de esa comida rojiza, porque estoy extenuado». Fue por eso que se dio a Esaú el nombre de Edom.
31 Jacob said, 'First, give me your birthright in exchange.'	31 Pero Jacob le respondió: «Dame antes tu derecho de hijo primogénito».
32 Esau said, 'Here I am, at death's door; what use is a birthright to me?'	32 «Me estoy muriendo», dijo Esaú. «¿De qué me servirá ese derecho?».
33 Then Jacob said, 'First give me your oath'; he gave him his oath and sold his birthright to Jacob.	33 Pero Jacob insistió: «Júramelo antes». El se lo juró y le vendió su derecho de hijo primogénito.
34 Then Jacob gave him some bread and lentil stew; he ate, drank, got up and went away. That was allEsau cared about his birthright.	34 Jacob le dio entonces pan y guiso de lentejas. Esaú comió y bebió; después se levantó y se fue. Así menospreció Esaú el derecho que le correspondía por ser el hijo primogénito.
