Genesis 25

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Abraham married another wife whose name was Keturah;	1 Abramo prese un'altra moglie: essa aveva nome Chetura.
2 and she bore him Zimram, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak and Shuah.	2 Essa gli partorì Zimran, Ioksan, Medan, Madian, Isbak e Suach.
3 Jokshan was the father of Sheba and Dedan, and the descendants of Dedan were the Asshurites, theLetushim and the Leummim.	3 Ioksan generò Saba e Dedan e i figli di Dedan furono gli Asurim, i Letusim e i Leummim.
4 The descendants of Midian were Ephah, Epher, Hanoch, Abida and Eldaah. Al these were sons ofKeturah.	4 I figli di Madian furono Efa, Efer, Enoch, Abida ed Eldaa. Tutti questi sono i figli di Chetura.
5 Abraham left al his possessions to Isaac.	5 Abramo diede tutti i suoi beni a Isacco.
6 To the sons of his concubines Abraham made grants during his lifetime, sending them away from hisson Isaac eastward, to the Land of the East.	6 Quanto ai figli che Abramo aveva avuto dalle concubine, diede loro doni e, mentre era ancora in vita, li licenziò mandandoli lontano da Isacco suo figlio, verso oriente, nella terra d'oriente.
7 The number of years Abraham lived was a hundred and seventy-five.	7 Questa è la durata della vita di Abramo: centosettantacinque anni.
8 When Abraham had breathed his last, dying at a happy ripe age, old and ful of years, he wasgathered to his people.	8 Poi Abramo spirò e morì dopo una felice vecchiaia, vecchio e sazio di giorni e fu riunito ai suoi antenati.
9 His sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah facing Mamre, in the field of Ephronthe Hittite son of Zohar.	9 Lo seppellirono i suoi figli Isacco e Ismaele nella caverna di Macpela, nel campo di Efron figlio di Socar, l'hittita, di fronte a Mamre.
10 This was the field that Abraham had bought from the Hittites, and Abraham and his wife Sarah wereburied there.	10 E' appunto il campo che Abramo aveva comprato dagli Hittiti. Ivi furono sepolti Abramo e Sara sua moglie.
11 After Abraham's death, God blessed his son Isaac. Isaac settled near the wel of Lahai Roi.	11 Dopo la morte di Abramo, Dio benedisse il figlio di lui Isacco; e Isacco abitò presso il pozzo di Lacai-Roi.
12 These are the descendants of Ishmael son of Abraham by Hagar, Sarah's Egyptian slave-girl.	12 Questi sono i discendenti di Ismaele, figlio di Abramo, che Agar l'egiziana, schiava di Sara, gli aveva partorito.
13 These are the names of the sons of Ishmael by name and line: Ishmael's first-born was Nebaioth;then Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam,	13 Questi sono i nomi dei figli di Ismaele, con i loro nomi in ordine di generazione: il primogenito di Ismaele è Nebaiòt, poi Kedar, Adbeèl, Mibsam,
14 Mishma, Dumah, Massa,	14 Misma, Duma, Massa,
15 Hadad, Tema, Jetur, Naphish and Kedemah.	15 Adad, Tema, Ietur, Nafis, Kedma.
16 These are the sons of Ishmael, and these are their names, according to their settlements andencampments, twelve chiefs of as many tribes.	16 Questi sono i figli di Ismaele e questi sono i nomi loro e dei loro attendamenti e accampamenti. Sono i dodici principi delle relative genti.
17 The number of years Ishmael lived was one hundred and thirty-seven. When he breathed his lastand died, he was gathered to his people.	17 E questi sono gli anni di vita di Ismaele: centotrentasette anni; poi spirò e morì e fu riunito ai suoi antenati.
18 He lived in the territory stretching from Havilah-by-Shur just outside Egypt on the way to Assyria, andhe held his own against all his kinsmen.	18 Egli abitò da Avila fino a Sur, che è lungo il confine dell'Egitto, in direzione di Assur. Egli si era accampato di fronte a tutti i propri fratelli.
19 This is the story of Isaac son of Abraham. Abraham fathered Isaac.	19 Questa è la storia della discendenza di Isacco, figlio di Abramo. Abramo aveva generato Isacco.
20 Isaac was forty years old when he married Rebekah the daughter of Bethuel the Aramaean ofPaddan-Aram, and sister of Laban the Aramaean.	20 Isacco aveva quarant'anni quando prese per sé Rebecca, figlia di Betuèl, l'arameo di Paddan-Aram e sorella di Làbano l'arameo.
21 Isaac prayed to Yahweh on behalf of his wife, for she was barren. Yahweh heard his prayer, and hiswife Rebekah conceived.	21 Isacco supplicò il Signore per sua moglie, perché essa era sterile, e il Signore lo esaudì, cosicché Rebecca sua moglie divenne incinta.
22 But the children inside her struggled so much that she said, 'If this is the way of it, why go on living?'So she went to consult Yahweh,	22 Se non che i figli si pressavano l'un l'altro dentro di lei, ond'ella disse: "Se è così, perché questo?...". E andò a consultare il Signore.
23 and Yahweh said to her: There are two nations in your womb, your issue wil be two rival peoples.One nation wil have the mastery of the other, and the elder wil serve the younger.	23 Il Signore rispose: "Due clan nel tuo ventre e due popoli dalle tue viscere si separeranno. Un popolo prevarrà sull'altro popolo e il maggiore servirà il minore".
24 When the time came for her confinement, there were indeed twins in her womb.	24 Quando poi si fu compiuto per lei il tempo in cui doveva partorire, ecco che due gemelli le stavano nel ventre.
25 The first to be born was red, altogether like a hairy cloak; so they named him Esau.	25 Il primo uscì rossiccio, come un peloso mantello, e lo chiamarono Esaù.
26 Then his brother was born, with his hand grasping Esau's heel; so they named him Jacob. Isaac wassixty years old at the time of their birth.	26 Subito dopo uscì suo fratello nell'atto di tenere con la mano il calcagno di Esaù, e lo si chiamò Giacobbe. Isacco aveva sessant'anni, alla loro nascita.
27 When the boys grew up Esau became a skil ed hunter, a man of the open country. Jacob on theother hand was a quiet man, staying at home among the tents.	27 I fanciulli crebbero. Esaù divenne un uomo assuefatto alla caccia, un uomo della steppa, mentre Giacobbe era un uomo tranquillo, che dimorava sotto le tende.
28 Isaac preferred Esau, for he had a taste for wild game; but Rebekah preferred Jacob.	28 Isacco prese ad amare Esaù, perché la cacciagione era di suo gusto, mentre Rebecca amava Giacobbe.
29 Once, when Jacob was cooking a stew, Esau returned from the countryside exhausted.	29 Una volta che Giacobbe aveva fatto cuocere una minestra, arrivò Esaù dalla steppa tutto trafelato.
30 Esau said to Jacob, 'Give me a mouthful of that red stuff there; I am exhausted' -- hence the namegiven to him, Edom.	30 Allora Esaù disse a Giacobbe: "Fammi trangugiare, per carità, un po' di questa minestra rossa, perché io sono sfinito!". Per questo fu chiamato il suo nome Edom.
31 Jacob said, 'First, give me your birthright in exchange.'	31 Giacobbe rispose: "Anzitutto vendi la tua primogenitura a me".
32 Esau said, 'Here I am, at death's door; what use is a birthright to me?'	32 Di rimando Esaù: "Eccomi sul punto di morire, e a che cosa mi vale una primogenitura?".
33 Then Jacob said, 'First give me your oath'; he gave him his oath and sold his birthright to Jacob.	33 Giacobbe allora disse: "Giuramelo immediatamente!". E quello glielo giurò e vendette la sua primogenitura a Giacobbe.
34 Then Jacob gave him some bread and lentil stew; he ate, drank, got up and went away. That was allEsau cared about his birthright.	34 Giacobbe diede allora a Esaù pane e minestra di lenticchie. Quello mangiò, bevve, poi si levò andandosene. Tanto poco stimò Esaù la primogenitura!
