He entered a boat, made the crossing, and came into his own town.1 And climbing into a boat, he crossed the sea, and he arrived at his own city.
And there people brought to him a paralytic lying on a stretcher. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, "Courage, child, your sins are forgiven."2 And behold, they brought to him a paralytic, lying on a bed. And Jesus, seeing their faith, said to the paralytic, “Be strengthened in faith, son; your sins are forgiven you.”
At that, some of the scribes said to themselves, "This man is blaspheming."3 And behold, some of the scribes said within themselves, “He is blaspheming.”
Jesus knew what they were thinking, and said, "Why do you harbor evil thoughts?4 And when Jesus had perceived their thoughts, he said: “Why do you think such evil in your hearts?
Which is easier, to say, 'Your sins are forgiven,' or to say, 'Rise and walk'?5 Which is easier to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven you,’ or to say, ‘Rise up and walk?’
But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins" --he then said to the paralytic, "Rise, pick up your stretcher, and go home."6 But, so that you may know that the Son of man has authority on earth to forgive sins,” he then said to the paralytic, “Rise up, take up your bed, and go into your house.”
He rose and went home.7 And he arose and went into his house.
When the crowds saw this they were struck with awe and glorified God who had given such authority to human beings.8 Then the crowd, seeing this, was frightened, and they glorified God, who gave such power to men.
As Jesus passed on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the customs post. He said to him, "Follow me." And he got up and followed him.9 And when Jesus passed on from there, he saw, sitting at the tax office, a man named Matthew. And he said to him, “Follow me.” And rising up, he followed him.
While he was at table in his house, many tax collectors and sinners came and sat with Jesus and his disciples.10 And it happened that, as he was sitting down to eat in the house, behold, many tax collectors and sinners arrived, and they sat down to eat with Jesus and his disciples.
The Pharisees saw this and said to his disciples, "Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?"11 And the Pharisees, seeing this, said to his disciples, “Why does your Teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”
He heard this and said, "Those who are well do not need a physician, but the sick do.12 But Jesus, hearing this, said: “It is not those who are healthy who are in need of a physician, but those who have maladies.
Go and learn the meaning of the words, 'I desire mercy, not sacrifice.' I did not come to call the righteous but sinners."13 So then, go out and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy and not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the just, but sinners.”
Then the disciples of John approached him and said, "Why do we and the Pharisees fast (much), but your disciples do not fast?"14 Then the disciples of John drew near to him, saying, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast frequently, but your disciples do not fast?”
Jesus answered them, "Can the wedding guests mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast.15 And Jesus said to them: “How can the sons of the groom mourn, while the groom is still with them? But the days will arrive when the groom will be taken away from them. And then they shall fast.
No one patches an old cloak with a piece of unshrunken cloth, for its fullness pulls away from the cloak and the tear gets worse.16 For no one would sew a patch of new cloth onto an old garment. For it pulls its fullness away from the garment, and the tear is made worse.
People do not put new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise the skins burst, the wine spills out, and the skins are ruined. Rather, they pour new wine into fresh wineskins, and both are preserved."17 Neither do they pour new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the wineskins rupture, and the wine pours out, and the wineskins are destroyed. Instead, they pour new wine into new wineskins. And so, both are preserved.”
While he was saying these things to them, an official came forward, knelt down before him, and said, "My daughter has just died. But come, lay your hand on her, and she will live."18 As he was speaking these things to them, behold, a certain ruler approached and adored him, saying: “Lord, my daughter has recently passed away. But come and impose your hand upon her, and she will live.”
Jesus rose and followed him, and so did his disciples.19 And Jesus, rising up, followed him, with his disciples.
A woman suffering hemorrhages for twelve years came up behind him and touched the tassel on his cloak.20 And behold, a woman, who had suffered from a flow of blood for twelve years, approached from behind and touched the hem of his garment.
She said to herself, "If only I can touch his cloak, I shall be cured."21 For she said within herself, “If I will touch even his garment, I shall be saved.”
Jesus turned around and saw her, and said, "Courage, daughter! Your faith has saved you." And from that hour the woman was cured.22 But Jesus, turning and seeing her, said: “Be strengthened in faith, daughter; your faith has made you well.” And the woman was made well from that hour.
When Jesus arrived at the official's house and saw the flute players and the crowd who were making a commotion,23 And when Jesus had arrived in the house of the ruler, and he had seen the musicians and the tumultuous crowd,
he said, "Go away! The girl is not dead but sleeping." And they ridiculed him.24 he said, “Depart. For the girl is not dead, but asleep.” And they derided him.
When the crowd was put out, he came and took her by the hand, and the little girl arose.25 And when the crowd had been sent away, he entered. And he took her by the hand. And the girl rose up.
And news of this spread throughout all that land.26 And the news of this went out to that entire land.
And as Jesus passed on from there, two blind men followed (him), crying out, "Son of David, have pity on us!"27 And as Jesus passed from there, two blind men followed him, crying out and saying, “Take pity on us, Son of David.”
When he entered the house, the blind men approached him and Jesus said to them, "Do you believe that I can do this?" "Yes, Lord," they said to him.28 And when he had arrived at the house, the blind men approached him. And Jesus said to them, “Do you trust that I am able to do this for you?” They say to him, “Certainly, Lord.”
Then he touched their eyes and said, "Let it be done for you according to your faith."29 Then he touched their eyes, saying, “According to your faith, so let it be done for you.”
And their eyes were opened. Jesus warned them sternly, "See that no one knows about this."30 And their eyes were opened. And Jesus warned them, saying, “See to it that no one knows of this.”
But they went out and spread word of him through all that land.31 But going out, they spread the news of it to all that land.
As they were going out, a demoniac who could not speak was brought to him,32 Then, when they had departed, behold, they brought him a man who was mute, having a demon.
and when the demon was driven out the mute person spoke. The crowds were amazed and said, "Nothing like this has ever been seen in Israel."33 And after the demon was cast out, the mute man spoke. And the crowds wondered, saying, “Never has anything like this been seen in Israel.”
But the Pharisees said, "He drives out demons by the prince of demons."34 But the Pharisees said, “By the prince of demons does he cast out demons.”
Jesus went around to all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, and curing every disease and illness.35 And Jesus traveled throughout all of the cities and towns, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the Gospel of the kingdom, and healing every illness and every infirmity.
At the sight of the crowds, his heart was moved with pity for them because they were troubled and abandoned, like sheep without a shepherd.36 Then, seeing the multitudes, he had compassion on them, because they were distressed and were reclining, like sheep without a shepherd.
Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few;37 Then he said to his disciples: “The harvest indeed is great, but the laborers are few.
so ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest."38 Therefore, petition the Lord of the harvest, so that he may sent out laborers to his harvest.”
