NEW AMERICAN BIBLENOVA VULGATA
"Stop judging, that you may not be judged.1 Nolite iudicare, ut non iudice mini;
For as you judge, so will you be judged, and the measure with which you measure will be measured out to you.2 in quo enim iudicio iudicaveritis, iudicabimini, et in qua mensura mensi fueritis, metietur vobis.
Why do you notice the splinter in your brother's eye, but do not perceive the wooden beam in your own eye?3 Quid autem vides festucam in oculo fratris tui, et trabem in oculo tuo nonvides?
How can you say to your brother, 'Let me remove that splinter from your eye,' while the wooden beam is in your eye?4 Aut quomodo dices fratri tuo: “Sine, eiciam festucam de oculo tuo”,et ecce trabes est in oculo tuo?
You hypocrite, remove the wooden beam from your eye first; then you will see clearly to remove the splinter from your brother's eye.5 Hypocrita, eice primum trabem de oculo tuo,et tunc videbis eicere festucam de oculo fratris tui.
"Do not give what is holy to dogs, or throw your pearls before swine, lest they trample them underfoot, and turn and tear you to pieces.6 Nolite dare sanctum canibus neque mittatis margaritas vestras ante porcos, neforte conculcent eas pedibus suis et conversi dirumpant vos.
"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.7 Petite, et dabitur vobis; quaerite et invenietis; pulsate, et aperietur vobis.
For everyone who asks, receives; and the one who seeks, finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.8 Omnis enim qui petit, accipit; et, qui quaerit, invenit; et pulsantiaperietur.
Which one of you would hand his son a stone when he asks for a loaf of bread,9 Aut quis est ex vobis homo, quem si petierit filius suus panem,numquid lapidem porriget ei?
or a snake when he asks for a fish?10 Aut si piscem petierit, numquid serpentemporriget ei?
If you then, who are wicked, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good things to those who ask him.11 Si ergo vos, cum sitis mali, nostis dona bona dare filiisvestris, quanto magis Pater vester, qui in caelis est, dabit bona petentibus se.
"Do to others whatever you would have them do to you. This is the law and the prophets.12 Omnia ergo, quaecumque vultis ut faciant vobis homines, ita et vos faciteeis; haec est enim Lex et Prophetae.
"Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the road broad that leads to destruction, and those who enter through it are many.13 Intrate per angustam portam, quia lata porta et spatiosa via, quae ducit adperditionem, et multi sunt, qui intrant per eam;
How narrow the gate and constricted the road that leads to life. And those who find it are few.14 quam angusta porta et artavia, quae ducit ad vitam, et pauci sunt, qui inveniunt eam!
"Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but underneath are ravenous wolves.15 Attendite a falsis prophetis, qui veniunt ad vos in vestimentis ovium,intrinsecus autem sunt lupi rapaces.
By their fruits you will know them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?16 A fructibus eorum cognoscetis eos;numquid colligunt de spinis uvas aut de tribulis ficus?
Just so, every good tree bears good fruit, and a rotten tree bears bad fruit.17 Sic omnis arbor bonafructus bonos facit, mala autem arbor fructus malos facit;
A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a rotten tree bear good fruit.18 non potest arborbona fructus malos facere, neque arbor mala fructus bonos facere.
Every tree that does not bear good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.19 Omnisarbor, quae non facit fructum bonum, exciditur et in ignem mittitur.
So by their fruits you will know them.20 Igiturex fructibus eorum cognoscetis eos.
"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven.21 Non omnis, qui dicit mihi: “Domine, Domine”, intrabit in regnum caelorum,sed qui facit voluntatem Patris mei, qui in caelis est.
Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name? Did we not drive out demons in your name? Did we not do mighty deeds in your name?'22 Multi dicent mihi inilla die: “Domine, Domine, nonne in tuo nomine prophetavimus, et in tuo nominedaemonia eiecimus, et in tuo nomine virtutes multas fecimus?”.
Then I will declare to them solemnly, 'I never knew you. Depart from me, you evildoers.'23 Et tuncconfitebor illis: Numquam novi vos; discedite a me, qui operamini iniquitatem.
"Everyone who listens to these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock.24 Omnis ergo, qui audit verba mea haec et facit ea, assimilabitur virosapienti, qui aedificavit domum suam supra petram.
The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and buffeted the house. But it did not collapse; it had been set solidly on rock.25 Et descendit pluvia, etvenerunt flumina, et flaverunt venti et irruerunt in domum illam, et noncecidit; fundata enim erat supra petram.
And everyone who listens to these words of mine but does not act on them will be like a fool who built his house on sand.26 Et omnis, qui audit verba mea haec et non facit ea, similis erit viro stulto,qui aedificavit domum suam supra arenam.
The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and buffeted the house. And it collapsed and was completely ruined."27 Et descendit pluvia, et veneruntflumina, et flaverunt venti et irruerunt in domum illam, et cecidit, et fuitruina eius magna ”.
When Jesus finished these words, the crowds were astonished at his teaching,28 Et factum est, cum consummasset Iesus verba haec, admirabantur turbae superdoctrinam eius;
for he taught them as one having authority, and not as their scribes.29 erat enim docens eos sicut potestatem habens, et non sicutscribae eorum.
