NEW AMERICAN BIBLEDOUAI-RHEIMS
"Stop judging, that you may not be judged.1 Judge not, that you may not be judged,
For as you judge, so will you be judged, and the measure with which you measure will be measured out to you.2 For with what judgment you judge, you shall be judged: and with what measure you mete, it shall be measured to you again.
Why do you notice the splinter in your brother's eye, but do not perceive the wooden beam in your own eye?3 Any why seest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye; and seest not the beam that is in thy own eye?
How can you say to your brother, 'Let me remove that splinter from your eye,' while the wooden beam is in your eye?4 Or how sayest thou to thy brother: Let me cast the mote out of thy eye; and behold a beam is in thy own eye?
You hypocrite, remove the wooden beam from your eye first; then you will see clearly to remove the splinter from your brother's eye.5 Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam in thy own eye, and then shalt thou see to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.
"Do not give what is holy to dogs, or throw your pearls before swine, lest they trample them underfoot, and turn and tear you to pieces.6 Give not that which is holy to dogs; neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest perhaps they trample them under their feet, and turning upon you, they tear you.
"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.7 Ask, and it shall be given you: seek, and you shall find: knock, and it shall be opened to you.
For everyone who asks, receives; and the one who seeks, finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.8 For every one that asketh, receiveth: and he that seeketh, findeth: and to him that knocketh, it shall be opened.
Which one of you would hand his son a stone when he asks for a loaf of bread,9 Or what man is there among you, of whom if his son shall ask bread, will he reach him a stone?
or a snake when he asks for a fish?10 Or if he shall ask him a fish, will he reach him a serpent?
If you then, who are wicked, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good things to those who ask him.11 If you then being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children: how much more will your Father who is in heaven, give good things to them that ask him?
"Do to others whatever you would have them do to you. This is the law and the prophets.12 All things therefore whatsoever you would that men should do to you, do you also to them. For this is the law and the prophets.
"Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the road broad that leads to destruction, and those who enter through it are many.13 Enter ye in at the narrow gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way that leadeth to destruction, and many there are who go in thereat.
How narrow the gate and constricted the road that leads to life. And those who find it are few.14 How narrow is the gate, and strait is the way that leadeth to life: and few there are that find it!
"Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but underneath are ravenous wolves.15 Beware of false prophets, who come to you in the clothing of sheep, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
By their fruits you will know them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?16 By their fruits you shall know them. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
Just so, every good tree bears good fruit, and a rotten tree bears bad fruit.17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit, and the evil tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a rotten tree bear good fruit.18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can an evil tree bring forth good fruit.
Every tree that does not bear good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit, shall be cut down, and shall be cast into the fire.
So by their fruits you will know them.20 Wherefore by their fruits you shall know them.
"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven.21 Not every one that saith to me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven: but he that doth the will of my Father who is in heaven, he shall enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name? Did we not drive out demons in your name? Did we not do mighty deeds in your name?'22 Many will say to me in that day: Lord, Lord, have not we prophesied in thy name, and cast out devils in thy name, and done many miracles in thy name?
Then I will declare to them solemnly, 'I never knew you. Depart from me, you evildoers.'23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, you that work iniquity.
"Everyone who listens to these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock.24 Every one therefore that heareth these my words, and doth them, shall be likened to a wise man that built his house upon a rock,
The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and buffeted the house. But it did not collapse; it had been set solidly on rock.25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and they beat upon that house, and it fell not, for it was founded on a rock.
And everyone who listens to these words of mine but does not act on them will be like a fool who built his house on sand.26 And every one that heareth these my words, and doth them not, shall be like a foolish man that built his house upon the sand,
The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and buffeted the house. And it collapsed and was completely ruined."27 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and they beat upon that house, and it fell, and great was the fall thereof.
When Jesus finished these words, the crowds were astonished at his teaching,28 And it came to pass when Jesus had fully ended these words, the people were in admiration at his doctrine.
for he taught them as one having authority, and not as their scribes.29 For he was teaching them as one having power, and not as the scribes and Pharisees.
