1 In the year following that of the Israelites' departure from the land of Egypt, on the first day of the second month, the LORD said to Moses in the meeting tent in the desert of Sinai:	1 וידבר יהוה אל משה במדבר סיני באהל מועד באחד לחדש השני בשנה השנית לצאתם מארץ מצרים לאמר
2 "Take a census of the whole community of the Israelites, by clans and ancestral houses, registering each male individually.	2 שאו את ראש כל עדת בני ישראל למשפחתם לבית אבתם במספר שמות כל זכר לגלגלתם
3 You and Aaron shall enroll in companies all the men in Israel of twenty years or more who are fit for military service.	3 מבן עשרים שנה ומעלה כל יצא צבא בישראל תפקדו אתם לצבאתם אתה ואהרן
4 "To assist you there shall be a man from each tribe, the head of his ancestral house.	4 ואתכם יהיו איש איש למטה איש ראש לבית אבתיו הוא
5 These are the names of those who are to assist you: from Reuben: Elizur, son of Shedeur;	5 ואלה שמות האנשים אשר יעמדו אתכם לראובן אליצור בן שדיאור
6 from Simeon: Shelumiel, son of Zurishaddai;	6 לשמעון שלמיאל בן צורישדי
7 from Judah: Nahshon, son of Amminadab;	7 ליהודה נחשון בן עמינדב
8 from Issachar: Nethanel, son of Zuar;	8 ליששכר נתנאל בן צוער
9 from Zebulun: Eliab, son of Helon;	9 לזבולן אליאב בן חלן
10 from Ephraim: Elishama, son of Ammihud, and from Manasseh: Gamaliel, son of Pedahzur, for the descendants of Joseph;	10 לבני יוסף לאפרים אלישמע בן עמיהוד למנשה גמליאל בן פדהצור
11 from Benjamin: Abidan, son of Gideoni;	11 לבנימן אבידן בן גדעני
12 from Dan: Ahiezer, son of Ammishaddai;	12 לדן אחיעזר בן עמישדי
13 from Asher: Pagiel, son of Ochran;	13 לאשר פגעיאל בן עכרן
14 from Gad: Eliasaph, son of Reuel;	14 לגד אליסף בן דעואל
15 from Naphtali: Ahira, son of Enan."	15 לנפתלי אחירע בן עינן
16 These were councilors of the community, princes of their ancestral tribes, chiefs of the troops of Israel.	16 אלה קריאי העדה נשיאי מטות אבותם ראשי אלפי ישראל הם
17 So Moses and Aaron took these men who had been designated,	17 ויקח משה ואהרן את האנשים האלה אשר נקבו בשמות
18 and assembled the whole community on the first day of the second month. Every man of twenty years or more then declared his name and lineage according to clan and ancestral house,	18 ואת כל העדה הקהילו באחד לחדש השני ויתילדו על משפחתם לבית אבתם במספר שמות מבן עשרים שנה ומעלה לגלגלתם
19 as the LORD had commanded Moses. This is their census as taken in the desert of Sinai.	19 כאשר צוה יהוה את משה ויפקדם במדבר סיני
20 Of the descendants of Reuben, the first-born of Israel, registered by lineage in clans and ancestral houses: when all the males of twenty years or more who were fit for military service were polled,	20 ויהיו בני ראובן בכר ישראל תולדתם למשפחתם לבית אבתם במספר שמות לגלגלתם כל זכר מבן עשרים שנה ומעלה כל יצא צבא
21 forty-six thousand five hundred were enrolled in the tribe of Reuben.	21 פקדיהם למטה ראובן ששה וארבעים אלף וחמש מאות
22 Of the descendants of Simeon, registered by lineage in clans and ancestral houses: when all the males of twenty years or more who were fit for military service were polled,	22 לבני שמעון תולדתם למשפחתם לבית אבתם פקדיו במספר שמות לגלגלתם כל זכר מבן עשרים שנה ומעלה כל יצא צבא
23 fifty-nine thousand three hundred were enrolled in the tribe of Simeon.	23 פקדיהם למטה שמעון תשעה וחמשים אלף ושלש מאות
24 Of the descendants of Gad, registered by lineage in clans and ancestral houses: when all the males of twenty years or more who were fit for military service were polled,	24 לבני גד תולדתם למשפחתם לבית אבתם במספר שמות מבן עשרים שנה ומעלה כל יצא צבא
25 forty-five thousand six hundred and fifty were enrolled in the tribe of Gad.	25 פקדיהם למטה גד חמשה וארבעים אלף ושש מאות וחמשים
26 Of the descendants of Judah, registered by lineage in clans and ancestral houses: when all the males of twenty years or more who were fit for military service were polled,	26 לבני יהודה תולדתם למשפחתם לבית אבתם במספר שמת מבן עשרים שנה ומעלה כל יצא צבא
27 seventy-four thousand six hundred were enrolled in the tribe of Judah.	27 פקדיהם למטה יהודה ארבעה ושבעים אלף ושש מאות
28 Of the descendants of Issachar, registered by lineage in clans and ancestral houses: when all the males of twenty years or more who were fit for military service were polled,	28 לבני יששכר תולדתם למשפחתם לבית אבתם במספר שמת מבן עשרים שנה ומעלה כל יצא צבא
29 fifty-four thousand four hundred were enrolled in the tribe of Issachar.	29 פקדיהם למטה יששכר ארבעה וחמשים אלף וארבע מאות
30 Of the descendants of Zebulun, registered by lineage in clans and ancestral houses: when all the males of twenty years or more who were fit for military service were polled,	30 לבני זבולן תולדתם למשפחתם לבית אבתם במספר שמת מבן עשרים שנה ומעלה כל יצא צבא
31 fifty-seven thousand four hundred were enrolled in the tribe of Zebulun.	31 פקדיהם למטה זבולן שבעה וחמשים אלף וארבע מאות
32 Of the descendants of Joseph-Of the descendants of Ephraim, registered by lineage in clans and ancestral houses: when all the males of twenty years or more who were fit for military service were polled,	32 לבני יוסף לבני אפרים תולדתם למשפחתם לבית אבתם במספר שמת מבן עשרים שנה ומעלה כל יצא צבא
33 forty thousand five hundred were enrolled in the tribe of Ephraim.	33 פקדיהם למטה אפרים ארבעים אלף וחמש מאות
34 Of the descendants of Manasseh, registered by lineage in clans and ancestral houses: when all the males of twenty years or more who were fit for military service were polled,	34 לבני מנשה תולדתם למשפחתם לבית אבתם במספר שמות מבן עשרים שנה ומעלה כל יצא צבא
35 thirty-two thousand two hundred were enrolled in the tribe of Manasseh.	35 פקדיהם למטה מנשה שנים ושלשים אלף ומאתים
36 Of the descendants of Benjamin, registered by lineage in clans and ancestral houses: when all the males of twenty years or more who were fit for military service were polled,	36 לבני בנימן תולדתם למשפחתם לבית אבתם במספר שמת מבן עשרים שנה ומעלה כל יצא צבא
37 thirty-five thousand four hundred were enrolled in the tribe of Benjamin.	37 פקדיהם למטה בנימן חמשה ושלשים אלף וארבע מאות
38 Of the descendants of Dan, registered by lineage in clans and ancestral houses: when all the males of twenty years or more who were fit for military service were polled,	38 לבני דן תולדתם למשפחתם לבית אבתם במספר שמת מבן עשרים שנה ומעלה כל יצא צבא
39 sixty-two thousand seven hundred were enrolled in the tribe of Dan.	39 פקדיהם למטה דן שנים וששים אלף ושבע מאות
40 Of the descendants of Asher, registered by lineage in clans and ancestral houses: when all the males of twenty years or more who were fit for military service were polled,	40 לבני אשר תולדתם למשפחתם לבית אבתם במספר שמת מבן עשרים שנה ומעלה כל יצא צבא
41 forty-one thousand five hundred were enrolled in the tribe of Asher.	41 פקדיהם למטה אשר אחד וארבעים אלף וחמש מאות
42 Of the descendants of Naphtali, registered by lineage in clans and ancestral houses: when all the males of twenty years or more who were fit for military service were polled,	42 בני נפתלי תולדתם למשפחתם לבית אבתם במספר שמת מבן עשרים שנה ומעלה כל יצא צבא
43 fifty-three thousand four hundred were enrolled in the tribe of Naphtali.	43 פקדיהם למטה נפתלי שלשה וחמשים אלף וארבע מאות
44 It was these who were registered, each according to his ancestral house, in the census taken by Moses and Aaron and the twelve princes of Israel.	44 אלה הפקדים אשר פקד משה ואהרן ונשיאי ישראל שנים עשר איש איש אחד לבית אבתיו היו
45 The total number of the Israelites of twenty years or more who were fit for military service, registered by ancestral houses,	45 ויהיו כל פקודי בני ישראל לבית אבתם מבן עשרים שנה ומעלה כל יצא צבא בישראל
46 was six hundred and three thousand, five hundred and fifty.	46 ויהיו כל הפקדים שש מאות אלף ושלשת אלפים וחמש מאות וחמשים
47 The Levites, however, were not registered by ancestral tribe with the others.	47 והלוים למטה אבתם לא התפקדו בתוכם
48 For the LORD had told Moses,	48 וידבר יהוה אל משה לאמר
49 "The tribe of Levi alone you shall not enroll nor include in the census along with the other Israelites.	49 אך את מטה לוי לא תפקד ואת ראשם לא תשא בתוך בני ישראל
50 You are to give the Levites charge of the Dwelling of the commandments with all its equipment and all that belongs to it. It is they who shall carry the Dwelling with all its equipment and who shall be its ministers. They shall therefore camp around the Dwelling.	50 ואתה הפקד את הלוים על משכן העדת ועל כל כליו ועל כל אשר לו המה ישאו את המשכן ואת כל כליו והם ישרתהו וסביב למשכן יחנו
51 When the Dwelling is to move on, the Levites shall take it down; when the Dwelling is to be pitched, it is the Levites who shall set it up. Any layman who comes near it shall be put to death.	51 ובנסע המשכן יורידו אתו הלוים ובחנת המשכן יקימו אתו הלוים והזר הקרב יומת
52 While the other Israelites shall camp by companies, each in his own division of the camp,	52 וחנו בני ישראל איש על מחנהו ואיש על דגלו לצבאתם
53 the Levites shall camp around the Dwelling of the commandments. Otherwise God's wrath will strike the Israelite community. The Levites, then, shall have charge of the Dwelling of the commandments."	53 והלוים יחנו סביב למשכן העדת ולא יהיה קצף על עדת בני ישראל ושמרו הלוים את משמרת משכן העדות
54 All this the Israelites fulfilled as the LORD had commanded Moses.	54 ויעשו בני ישראל ככל אשר צוה יהוה את משה כן עשו
