Sirach 44

1 Now will I praise those godly men, our ancestors, each in his own time:	1 Voglio celebrare gli uomini pii, i nostri padri secondo i loro tempi.
2 The abounding glory of the Most High's portion, his own part, since the days of old. Subduers of the land in kingly fashion, men of renown for their might,	2 Jahvè diede loro molta gloria ed essi furono grandi dalle età antiche;
3 Or counselors in their prudence, or seers of all things in prophecy;	3 dominatori della terra mediante il loro governo e uomini celebri per la loro potenza, consiglieri intelligenti, onniveggenti per spirito profetico,
4 Resolute princes of the folk, and governors with their staves; Authors skilled in composition, and forgers of epigrams with their spikes;	4 capi delle nazioni a causa della loro prudenza, duci del popolo per consiglio, sapienti nei loro scritti meditati e reggitori del popolo con i loro ammaestramenti;
5 Composers of melodious psalms, or discoursers on lyric themes;	5 inventori di carmi secondo la norma e che consegnarono allo scritto i loro proverbi;
6 Stalwart men, solidly established and at peace in their own estates--	6 uomini ricchi e pieni di forza e che si sono goduti tranquillamente i loro beni.
7 All these were glorious in their time, each illustrious in his day.	7 Tutti questi furono celebrati al loro tempo ed ebbero gloria nei loro giorni.
8 Some of them have left behind a name and men recount their praiseworthy deeds;	8 Tra di loro, c’è chi ha lasciato un nome, perché se ne possa narrare la lode;
9 But of others there is no memory, for when they ceased, they ceased. And they are as though they had not lived, they and their children after them.	9 e ci sono altri, dei quali non rimane il ricordo e che finirono con se stessi, così come se non fossero stati, e i loro figli dopo di essi.
10 Yet these also were godly men whose virtues have not been forgotten;	10 Ma quelli sono gli uomini pii, la cui pietà non cessa;
11 Their wealth remains in their families, their heritage with their descendants;	11 il loro bene si conserva con la progenie e la loro eredità con i figli;
12 Through God's covenant with them their family endures, their posterity, for their sake.	12 sui patti si mantiene la loro discendenza e i figli per loro riguardo;
13 And for all time their progeny will endure, their glory will never be blotted out;	13 la memoria di essi rimarrà per scuipie e la loro giustizia non andrà perduta;
14 Their bodies are peacefully laid away, but their name lives on and on.	14 i loro corpi riposano in pace ma il loro nome vive di generazione in generazione.
15 At gatherings their wisdom is retold, and the assembly proclaims their praise.	15 Ci sarà l’elogio della loro sapienza e ci sarà la loro lode nell’assemblea.
16 [ENOCH walked with the LORD and was taken up, that succeeding generations might learn by his example.]	16 Enoch camminò con Jahvè e fu rapito, esempio istruttivo per tutte le età.
17 NOAH, found just and perfect, renewed the race in the time of devastation. Because of his worth there were survivors, and with a sign to him the deluge ended;	17 Noè il giusto fu trovato perfetto e al tempo della distruzione fu un rinnovatore.
18 A lasting agreement was made with him, that never should all flesh be destroyed.	18 Per lui rimase un resto e con la sua alleanza cessò il diluvio; con segno eterno si concluse con lui che nessun corpo sarebbe stato più distrutto.
19 ABRAHAM, father of many peoples, kept his glory without stain:	19 Abramo, padre di una moltitudine di popoli; non si trovò macchia sulla sua gloria:
20 He observed the precepts of the Most High, and entered into an agreement with him; In his own flesh he incised the ordinance, and when tested he was found loyal.	20 egli osservò gli ordini dell’Altissimo e fece un’alleanza con lui; concluse l’alleanza con lui nel suo corpo e fu trovato fedele nella prova.
21 For this reason, God promised him with an oath that in his descendants the nations would be blessed, That he would make him numerous as the grains of dust, and exalt his posterity like the stars; That he would give them an inheritance from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth.	21 Perciò Dio, con giuramento, decise per lui di benedire nel suo seme le genti, di farlo numeroso come la polvere della terra, di esaltarne i posteri come le stelle, di farlo diventare erede da un mare all’altro e dal fiume all’estremità della terra.
22 And for ISAAC he renewed the same promise because of Abraham, his father. The covenant with all his forebears was confirmed, and the blessing rested upon the head of JACOB.	22 Stabilì ciò anche per Isacco a causa di Abramo suo padre; e la benedizione di tutti i predecessori
23 God acknowledged him as the first-born, and gave him his inheritance. He fixed the boundaries for his tribes, and their division into twelve.	23 si riversò sul capo di Israele. Lo nominò primogenito, costituì per lui la sua eredità e lo collocò secondo tribù, dividendolo in dodici.
