Sirach 26

NEW AMERICAN BIBLE	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Happy the husband of a good wife, twice-lengthened are his days;	1 ¡Feliz el marido de una buena esposa: se duplicará el número de sus días!
2 A worthy wife brings joy to her husband, peaceful and full is his life.	2 La mujer hacendosa es la alegría de su marido y él vivirá en paz hasta el último de sus días.
3 A good wife is a generous gift bestowed upon him who fears the LORD;	3 Una buena esposa es una gran fortuna, reservada en suerte a los que temen al Señor:
4 Be he rich or poor, his heart is content, and a smile is ever on his face.	4 sea rico o pobre, su corazón será dichoso y su rostro estará radiante en todo momento.
5 There are three things at which my heart quakes, a fourth before which I quail: Though false charges in public, trial before all the people, and lying testimony are harder to bear than death,	5 Hay tres cosas que me inspiran temor, y por la cuarta imploro misericordia: ciudad dividida, multitud amotinada y falsa acusación son más penosas que la muerte.
6 A jealous wife is heartache and mourning and a scourging tongue like the other three.	6 Pero pesadumbre y duelo es la mujer celosa de su rival, y en todo está presente el flagelo de la lengua.
7 A bad wife is a chafing yoke; he who marries her seizes a scorpion.	7 Un yugo mal ajustado es una mala mujer: tratar de sujetarla es agarrar un escorpión.
8 A drunken wife arouses great anger, for she does not hide her shame.	8 Una mujer bebedora provoca indignación: ella no podrá ocultar si ignominia.
9 By her eyelids and her haughty stare an unchaste wife can be recognized.	9 en el descaro de la mirada y en sus pupilas se reconoce la procacidad de una mujer.
10 Keep a strict watch over an unruly wife, lest, finding an opportunity, she make use of it;	10 Redobla la guardia ante una joven atrevida, no sea que descubra una ocasión se aproveche.
11 Follow close if her eyes are bold, and be not surprised if she betrays you:	11 Cuídate de las miradas provocativas y no te sorprendas si te incitan al mal.
12 As a thirsty traveler with eager mouth drinks from any water that he finds, So she settles down before every tent peg and opens her quiver for every arrow.	12 Ella abre la boca como un viajero sediento y bebe toda el agua que se le ofrece; se sienta ante cualquier estaca y abre su aljaba a todas las flechas.
13 A gracious wife delights her husband, her thoughtfulness puts flesh on his bones;	13 La gracia de una mujer deleita a su marido y su buen juicio lo llena de vigor.
14 A gift from the LORD is her governed speech, and her firm virtue is of surpassing worth.	14 Una mujer discreta es un don del Señor y no tiene precio la esposa bien educada.
15 Choicest of blessings is a modest wife, priceless her chaste person.	15 Una mujer pudorosa es la mayor de las gracias y no hay escala para medir a la que es dueña de sí misma.
16 Like the sun rising in the LORD'S heavens, the beauty of a virtuous wife is the radiance of her home.	16 Como el sol que se eleva por las alturas del Señor, así es el encanto de la buena esposa es una casa ordenada.
17 Like the light which shines above the holy lampstand, are her beauty of face and graceful figure.	17 Como una lámpara que brilla sobre el candelabro sagrado, así es la belleza del rostro sobre un cuerpo esbelto.
18 Golden columns on silver bases are her shapely limbs and steady feet.	18 Columnas de oro sobre un zócalo de plata son las piernas hermosas sobres talones firmes.
19 These two bring grief to my heart, and the third arouses my horror: A wealthy man reduced to want; illustrious men held in contempt; And the man who passes from justice to sin, for whom the LORD makes ready the sword.
20 A merchant can hardly remain upright, nor a shopkeeper free from sin;
