Sirach 12

NEW AMERICAN BIBLE	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 If you do good, know for whom you are doing it, and your kindness will have its effect.	1 Se tu fai del bene, guarda a chi lo fai, ed avrai molta riconoscenza pei tuoi benefìzi.
2 Do good to the just man and reward will be yours, if not from him, from the LORD.	2 Fa del bene al giusto, e ne avrai grande ricompensa, se non da lui, certamente dal Signore.
3 No good comes to him who gives comfort to the wicked, nor is it an act of mercy that he does.	3 Non avrà bene chi persevera nel male e non fa elemosina, perchè l'Altissimo odia i peccatori ed usa misericordia coi penitenti.
4 Give to the good man, refuse the sinner; refresh the downtrodden, give nothing to the proud man.	4 Dona al misericordioso, e non accogliere il peccatore, agli empi e ai peccatori (Dio) darà il castigo, serbandoli pel giorno della vendetta.
5 No arms for combat should you give him, lest he use them against yourself;	5 Dona a colui che è buono, e non ricevere il peccatore.
6 With twofold evil you will meet for every good deed you do for him.	6 Fa del bene all'umile, e non donare all'empio. Impedisci che gli sia dato del pane, chè per esso non diventi più potente di te.
7 The Most High himself hates sinners, and upon the wicked he takes vengeance.	7 Infatti tu avrai doppio male per ogni bene che gli avrai fatto; perchè anche l'Altissimo odia i peccatori e ripaga coi castighi i malvagi.
8 In our prosperity we cannot know our friends; in adversity an enemy will not remain concealed.	8 Non si conosce nella prosperità l'amico, e non resterà nascosto nella avversità il nemico.
9 When a man is successful even his enemy is friendly; in adversity even his friend disappears.	9 Quando un uomo è felice, i suoi nemici son nella tristezza, quando è nell'avversità, si conosce chi è suo amico.
10 Never trust your enemy, for his wickedness is like corrosion in bronze.	10 Non ti fidar mai del tuo nemico, perchè, come rame, fa ruggine la sua malizia.
11 Even though he acts humbly and peaceably toward you, take care to be on your guard against him. Rub him as one polishes a brazen mirror, and you will find that there is still corrosion.	11 Anche se si umilia e si curva, stai attento e guardati da lui;
12 Let him not stand near you, lest he oust you and take your place. Let him not sit at your right hand, lest he then demand your seat, And in the end you appreciate my advice, when you groan with regret, as I warned you.	12 non te lo mettere accanto, non lo far sedere alla tua destra, se non vuoi che egli, rivolgendosi al tuo posto, cerchi il tuo seggio, e che tu troppo tardi abbia a riconoscere (la verità delle) mie parole, e a gemere (ricordando) le mie parole.
13 Who pities a snake charmer when he is bitten, or anyone who goes near a wild beast?	13 Chi avrà compassione di un incantatore morso dal serpente, e di tutti quelli che si accostano alle belve? Così avverrà a chi s'accompagna con un iniquo, e si trova coinvolto nei delitti di lui.
14 So is it with the companion of the proud man, who is involved in his sins:	14 Per un'ora egli resterà con te, ma se tu cadrai in basso, non resterà più.
15 While you stand firm, he makes no bold move; but if you slip, he cannot hold back.	15 Il nemico ha il dolce sulle labbra, ma nel suo cuore tende insidie per seppellirti nella fossa.
16 With his lips an enemy speaks sweetly, but in his heart he schemes to plunge you into the abyss. Though your enemy has tears in his eyes, if given the chance, he will never have enough of your blood.	16 Il nemico avrà le lacrime sugli occhi, ma, se gli capita l'occasione, sarà insaziabile di sangue.
17 If evil comes upon you, you will find him at hand; feigning to help, he will trip you up,	17 E se ti accadrà del male, egli vi si troverà per il primo.
18 Then he will nod his head and clap his hands and hiss repeatedly, and show his true face.	18 Il nemico avrà le lacrime sugli occhi, e, come per darti aiuto, scaverà ai tuoi piedi la fossa.
	19 Scoterà il capo, batterà le mani, e con molte maledizioni muterà faccia.
