1 Boast not of tomorrow, for you know not what any day may bring forth.	1 Non ti vantar del domani, perchè non sai quel che possa produrre il giorno da venire.
2 Let another praise you--not your own mouth; Someone else--not your own lips.	2 Altri ti lodi, non la tua bocca,
3 Stone is heavy, and sand a burden, but a fool's provocation is heavier than both.	3 un estraneo, non le tue labbra. Grave è la pietra, pesante la sabbia, ma più pesante dell'una e dell'altra è l'ira dello stolto.
4 Anger is relentless, and wrath overwhelming-- but before jealousy who can stand?	4 L'ira e l'impetuoso furore non han misericordia, ma l'impeto della gelosia chi potrà sostenerlo?
5 Better is an open rebuke than a love that remains hidden.	5 Meglio riprensione aperta che amore occulto.

9 Perfume and incense gladden the heart, but by grief the soul is torn asunder.	9 Il cuore trova piacere nell'unguento e nei vari odori, l'anima trova conforto nei buoni consigli d'un amico.
10 Your own friend and your father's friend forsake not; but if ruin befalls you, enter not a kinsman's house. Better is a neighbor near at hand than a brother far away.	10 Non abbandonare l'amico tuo, nè l'amico di tuo padre e non andare a casa del tuo fratello nel giorno della tua afflizione. Un vicino al fianco vai più d'un fratello da lontano.
11 If you are wise, my son, you will gladden my heart, and I will be able to rebut him who tuants me.	11 Applicati alla sapienza, figlio mio, rallegrami il cuore; così potrai rispondere a chi t'insulta.
12 The shrewd man perceives evil and hides; simpletons continue on and suffer the penalty.	12 L'astuto, visto il pericolo, si nasconde, l'incauto passa avanti e ne paga il fio.
13 Take his garment who becomes surety for another, and for the sake of a stranger, yield it up!	13 Togli la veste a chi s'è fatto mallevadore per uno straniero, e per i forestieri prendi il pegno a lui.
14 When one greets his neighbor with a loud voice in the early morning, a curse can be laid to his charge.	14 Colui che benedice il suo prossimo ad alta voce di buon mattino, sarà simile a chi lo maledice.
15 For a persistent leak on a rainy day the match is a quarrelsome woman.	15 Lo sgocciolio del tetto nella fredda stagione e la donna litigiosa si somigliano.
16 He who keeps her stores up a stormwind; he cannot tell north from south.	16 Chi la ritiene è come colui che vuol tenere il vento e stringer l'olio nella sua destra.
17 As iron sharpens iron, so man sharpens his fellow man.	17 Il ferro si affila col ferro e l'uomo acuisce l'ingegno del suo amico.
18 He who tends a fig tree eats its fruit, and he who is attentive to his master will be enriched.	18 Chi ha cura del fico ne mangerà i frutti, e chi custodisce il suo padrone sarà onorato.

21 As the crucible tests silver and the furnace gold, so a man is tested by the praise he receives.	21 Come si prova al crogiolo l'argento e al fornello l'oro, così vien provato l'uomo nella bocca di chi lo loda. Il cuore dell'iniquo cerca il male, il cuore diritto cerca la scienza.
22 Though you should pound the fool to bits with the pestle, amid the grits in a mortar, his folly would not go out of him.	22 Anche se pestassi lo stolto nel mortaio, come si fa dell'orzo, col pestello, non gli leveresti la sua stoltezza.
23 Take good care of your flocks, give careful attention to your herds;	23 Bada bene allo stato del tuo gregge, ed abbi cura delle tue mandre,
24 For wealth lasts not forever, nor even a crown from age to age.	24 perchè non ne avrai sempre il possesso: anche la corona è data di generazione in generazione.
25 When the grass is taken away and the aftergrowth appears, and the mountain greens are gathered in,	25 I prati sono aperti, spuntano le verdi erbette, è raccolto il fieno dei monti;
26 The lambs will provide you with clothing, and the goats will bring the price of a field,	26 e gli agnelli ti forniscon le vesti, i capretti ti pagano il campo;
27 And there will be ample goat's milk to supply you, to supply your household, and maintenance for your maidens.	27 il latte delle capre può bastare a nutrirti, al necessario della tua famiglia, al mantenimento delle tue serve.
