Proverbs 27

NEW AMERICAN BIBLE	JERUSALEM
1 Boast not of tomorrow, for you know not what any day may bring forth.	1 Ne te félicite pas du lendemain, car tu ignores ce qu'aujourd'hui enfantera.
2 Let another praise you--not your own mouth; Someone else--not your own lips.	2 Qu'autrui fasse ton éloge, mais non ta propre bouche, un étranger, mais non tes lèvres!
3 Stone is heavy, and sand a burden, but a fool's provocation is heavier than both.	3 Lourde est la pierre, pesant le sable, mais plus lourd qu'eux, le dépit du fou.
4 Anger is relentless, and wrath overwhelming-- but before jealousy who can stand?	4 Cruelle est la fureur, impétueuse la colère, mais contre la jalousie, qui tiendra?
5 Better is an open rebuke than a love that remains hidden.	5 Mieux vaut réprimande ouverte qu'amour dissimulé.
6 Wounds from a friend may be accepted as well meant, but the greetings of an enemy one prays against.	6 Fidèles sont les coups d'un ami, mensongers les baisers d'un ennemi.
7 One who is full, tramples on virgin honey; but to the man who is hungry, any bitter thing is sweet.	7 Gorge rassasiée méprise le miel, gorge affamée trouve douce toute amertume.
8 Like a bird that is far from its nest is a man who is far from his home.	8 Comme l'oiseau qui erre loin de son nid, ainsi l'homme qui erre loin de son pays.
9 Perfume and incense gladden the heart, but by grief the soul is torn asunder.	9 L'huile et le parfum mettent le coeur en joie, et la douceur de l'amitié, plus que la complaisanceen soi-même.
10 Your own friend and your father's friend forsake not; but if ruin befalls you, enter not a kinsman's house. Better is a neighbor near at hand than a brother far away.	10 N'abandonne pas ton ami ni l'ami de ton père; à la maison de ton frère, ne va pas au jour de tonaffliction. Mieux vaut un voisin proche qu'un frère éloigné.
11 If you are wise, my son, you will gladden my heart, and I will be able to rebut him who tuants me.	11 Deviens sage, mon fils, et réjouis mon coeur, que je puisse répondre à qui m'outrage.
12 The shrewd man perceives evil and hides; simpletons continue on and suffer the penalty.	12 L'homme avisé voit le malheur et se cache, les niais passent outre, à leurs dépens.
13 Take his garment who becomes surety for another, and for the sake of a stranger, yield it up!	13 Prends-lui son vêtement, car il a cautionné un étranger, à cause d'inconnus, prends-lui un gage.
14 When one greets his neighbor with a loud voice in the early morning, a curse can be laid to his charge.	14 Si quelqu'un bénit son prochain à haute voix dès l'aube, cela lui est compté pour unemalédiction.
15 For a persistent leak on a rainy day the match is a quarrelsome woman.	15 Gargouille qui ne cesse de couler un jour de pluie et femme querelleuse sont pareilles!
16 He who keeps her stores up a stormwind; he cannot tell north from south.	16 Qui veut la saisir, saisit le vent et sa droite rencontre de l'huile.
17 As iron sharpens iron, so man sharpens his fellow man.	17 Le fer s'aiguise par le fer, l'homme s'affine en face de son prochain.
18 He who tends a fig tree eats its fruit, and he who is attentive to his master will be enriched.	18 Le gardien du figuier mange de son fruit, qui veille sur son maître sera honoré.
19 As one face differs from another, so does one human heart from another.	19 Comme l'eau donne le reflet du visage, ainsi le coeur de l'homme pour l'homme.
20 The nether world and the abyss are never satisfied; so too the eyes of men.	20 Insatiables sont le Shéol et la Perdition, ainsi les yeux de l'homme sont-ils insatiables.
21 As the crucible tests silver and the furnace gold, so a man is tested by the praise he receives.	21 Il y a la fournaise pour l'argent, le fourneau pour l'or: l'homme vaut ce que vaut sa réputation.
22 Though you should pound the fool to bits with the pestle, amid the grits in a mortar, his folly would not go out of him.	22 Quand tu pilerais le fou au mortier (parmi les grains, avec un pilon), sa folie ne se sépareraitpas de lui.
23 Take good care of your flocks, give careful attention to your herds;	23 Connais bien l'état de ton bétail, à ton troupeau donne tes soins;
24 For wealth lasts not forever, nor even a crown from age to age.	24 car la richesse n'est pas éternelle, et une couronne ne se transmet pas d'âge en âge.
25 When the grass is taken away and the aftergrowth appears, and the mountain greens are gathered in,	25 Une fois l'herbe enlevée, le regain apparu, ramassé le foin des montagnes,
26 The lambs will provide you with clothing, and the goats will bring the price of a field,	26 aie des agneaux pour te vêtir, des boucs pour acheter un champ,
27 And there will be ample goat's milk to supply you, to supply your household, and maintenance for your maidens.	27 le lait des chèvres en abondance pour te sustenter, pour nourrir ta maison et faire vivre tesservantes.
