Proverbs 22

1 A good name is more desirable than great riches, and high esteem, than gold and silver.	1 Vale más el buen nombre que las muchas riquezas, y ser estimado vale más que la plata y el oro.
2 Rich and poor have a common bond: the LORD is the maker of them all.	2 El rico y el pobre tienen esto en común: el Señor los hizo a los dos.
3 The shrewd man perceives evil and hides, while simpletons continue on and suffer the penalty.	3 El hombre precavido ve el mal y se esconde, los incautos siguen adelante y la pagan.
4 The reward of humility and fear of the LORD is riches, honor and life.	4 Premio de la humildad son el temor del Señor, la riqueza, el honor y la vida.
5 Thorns and snares are on the path of the crooked; he who would safeguard his life will shun them.	5 Hay espinas y trampas en el camino del hombre tortuoso: el que cuida de sí mismo se aparta de ellas.
6 Train a boy in the way he should go; even when he is old, he will not swerve from it.	6 Inicia al niño en el camino que debe seguir, y ni siquiera en su vejez se apartará de él.
7 The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is the slave of the lender.	7 El rico domina a los pobres y el deudor es esclavo del acreedor.
8 He who sows iniquity reaps calamity, and the rod destroys his labors.	8 El que siembra injusticia cosechará desgracias y la vara de su furor lo aniquilará.
9 The kindly man will be blessed, for he gives of his sustenance to the poor.	9 El hombre generoso será bendecido, porque comparte su pan con el pobre.
10 Expel the arrogant man and discord goes out; strife and insult cease.	10 Echa al insolente y cesará la pelea: no habrá más discordias ni insultos.
11 The LORD loves the pure of heart; the man of winning speech has the king for his friend.	11 El que ama la pureza del corazón y habla con gracia, tiene al rey por amigo.
12 The eyes of the LORD safeguard knowledge, but he defeats the projects of the faithless.	12 Los ojos del Señor vigilan la ciencia, y él confunde las palabras del traidor.
13 The sluggard says, "A lion is outside; in the streets I might be slain."	13 El perezoso dice: «Afuera hay un león, voy a ser ultimado en medio de la calle».
14 The mouth of the adulteress is a deep pit; he with whom the LORD is angry will fall into it.	14 Fosa profunda es la boca de las mujeres ajenas: el que irrita al Señor caerá en ella.
15 Folly is close to the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline will drive it far from him.	15 La necedad está adherida al corazón del joven: la vara de la corrección la alejará de él.
16 He who oppresses the poor to enrich himself will yield up his gains to the rich as sheer loss.	16 El que explota al débil para engrandecerse tendrá que dar al rico y acabará en la indigencia.
17 The sayings of the wise: Incline your ear, and hear my words, and apply your heart to my doctrine;	17 Palabras de los sabios. Inclina tu oído, escucha mis palabras, y presta atención a mi experiencia:
18 For it will be well if you keep them in your bosom, if they all are ready on your lips.	18 será una delicia conservarlas dentro de ti y tenerlas siempre a punto sobre tus labios.
19 That your trust may be in the LORD, I make known to you the words of Amen-em-Ope.	19 Para que pongas tu confianza en el Señor, hoy te voy a instruir también a ti.
20 Have I not written for you the "Thirty," with counsels and knowledge,	20 ¿Acaso no te he escrito treinta discursos, que contienen consejos e instrucciones,
21 To teach you truly how to give a dependable report to one who sends you?	21 para hacerte conocer con exactitud las palabras verdaderas, y así puedas responder fielmente al que te envía?
22 Injure not the poor because they are poor, nor crush the needy at the gate;	22 No robes al débil porque es débil, ni atropelles al pobre en la puerta de la ciudad,
23 For the LORD will defend their cause, and will plunder the lives of those who plunder them.	23 porque el Señor defenderá su causa, y a los que lo despojan, los despojará de la vida.
24 Be not friendly with a hotheaded man, nor the companion of a wrathful man,	24 No te juntes con un hombre irascible ni vayas con un hombre iracundo,
25 Lest you learn his ways, and get yourself into a snare.	25 no sea que aprendas sus costumbres y te pongas una trampa a ti mismo.
26 Be not one of those who give their hand in pledge, of those who become surety for debts;	26 No seas de los que estrechan la mano, de los que salen fiadores por una deuda:
27 For if you have not the means to pay, your bed will be taken from under you.	27 si no tienes con qué pagar, te quitarán el lecho donde te acuestas.
28 Remove not the ancient landmark which your fathers set up.	28 No desplaces los linderos antiguos, esos que colocaron tus padres.
29 You see a man skilled at his work? He will stand in the presence of kings; he will not stand in the presence of obscure men.	29 ¿Ves a un hombre hábil en su oficio? El se presentará delante de los reyes y no estará al servicio de gente mediocre.
