1 A good name is more desirable than great riches, and high esteem, than gold and silver.	1 Más vale buen nombre que muchas riquezas, y mejor es favor que plata y oro.
2 Rich and poor have a common bond: the LORD is the maker of them all.	2 El rico y el pobre se encuentran, a los dos los hizo Yahveh.
3 The shrewd man perceives evil and hides, while simpletons continue on and suffer the penalty.	3 El hombre precavido ve el mal y se esconde, los simples pasan y reciben castigo.
4 The reward of humility and fear of the LORD is riches, honor and life.	4 Premio de la humildad, el temor de Yahveh, la riqueza, el honor y la vida.
5 Thorns and snares are on the path of the crooked; he who would safeguard his life will shun them.	5 Espinas y lazos en la senda del malo, el que cuida de su vida, se aleja de ellos.
6 Train a boy in the way he should go; even when he is old, he will not swerve from it.	6 Instruye al joven según sus disposiciones, que luego, de viejo, no se apartará de ellas.
7 The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is the slave of the lender.	7 El rico domina a los pobres, el deudor es esclavo de su acreedor.
8 He who sows iniquity reaps calamity, and the rod destroys his labors.	8 Quien siembra injusticia cosecha miserias y la vara de su cólera desaparecerá.
9 The kindly man will be blessed, for he gives of his sustenance to the poor.	9 El de buena intención será bendito, porque da de su pan al débil.
10 Expel the arrogant man and discord goes out; strife and insult cease.	10 Expulsa al arrogante y se irá el litigio, y pleitos e injurias cesarán.
11 The LORD loves the pure of heart; the man of winning speech has the king for his friend.	11 El que ama los corazones puros, el de gracia en los labios, es amigo del rey.
12 The eyes of the LORD safeguard knowledge, but he defeats the projects of the faithless.	12 Los ojos de Yahveh custodian la ciencia, pero confunden las palabras del pérfido.
13 The sluggard says, "A lion is outside; in the streets I might be slain."	13 El perezoso dice: «Hay fuera un león; voy a ser muerto en medio de la calle».
14 The mouth of the adulteress is a deep pit; he with whom the LORD is angry will fall into it.	14 Fosa profunda la boca de las mujeres ajenas: aquel contra el que Yahveh se aíra, caerá en ella.
15 Folly is close to the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline will drive it far from him.	15 La necedad está enraizada en el corazón del joven, la vara de la instrucción lo alejará de ella.
16 He who oppresses the poor to enrich himself will yield up his gains to the rich as sheer loss.	16 El que oprime a un débil, lo engrandece; el que da a un rico, llega a empobrecerlo.
17 The sayings of the wise: Incline your ear, and hear my words, and apply your heart to my doctrine;	17 Presta oído y escucha las palabras de los sabios, y aplica tu corazón a mi ciencia,
18 For it will be well if you keep them in your bosom, if they all are ready on your lips.	18 porque te será dulce guardarlas en tu seno, y tener todas a punto en tus labios.
19 That your trust may be in the LORD, I make known to you the words of Amen-em-Ope.	19 Para que esté en Yahveh tu confianza también a ti hoy te enseñaré.
20 Have I not written for you the "Thirty," with counsels and knowledge,	20 ¿No he escrito para ti treinta capítulos de consejos y ciencia,
21 To teach you truly how to give a dependable report to one who sends you?	21 para hacerte conocer la certeza de las palabras verdaderas, y puedas responder palabras verdaderas a quien te envíe?
22 Injure not the poor because they are poor, nor crush the needy at the gate;	22 No despojes al débil, porque es débil, y no aplastes al desdichado en la puerta,
23 For the LORD will defend their cause, and will plunder the lives of those who plunder them.	23 porque Yahveh defenderá su causa y despojará de la vida a los despojadores.
24 Be not friendly with a hotheaded man, nor the companion of a wrathful man,	24 No tomes por compañero a un hombre airado, ni vayas con un hombre violento,
25 Lest you learn his ways, and get yourself into a snare.	25 no sea que aprendas sus senderos, y te encuentres con un lazo para tu vida.
26 Be not one of those who give their hand in pledge, of those who become surety for debts;	26 No seas de los que chocan la mano, y salen fiadores de préstamos:
27 For if you have not the means to pay, your bed will be taken from under you.	27 porque si no tienes con qué pagar, te tomarán el lecho en que te acuestas.
28 Remove not the ancient landmark which your fathers set up.	28 No desplaces el lindero antiguo que tus padres pusieron.
29 You see a man skilled at his work? He will stand in the presence of kings; he will not stand in the presence of obscure men.	29 ¿Has visto un hombre hábil en su oficio? Se colocará al servicio de los reyes. No quedará al servicio de gentes oscuras.
