1 In estrangement one seeks pretexts: with all persistence he picks a quarrel.	1 Segue il suo piacere colui che si separa; dell'altrui parere egli si beffa.
2 The fool takes no delight in understanding, but rather in displaying what he thinks.	2 Lo stolto non ama aver la scienza, ma far mostra di avere intelligenza.
3 With wickedness comes contempt, and with disgrace comes scorn.	3 Quando viene l'empietà viene anche il disprezzo e con la turpitudine l'obbrobrio.
4 The words from a man's mouth are deep waters, but the source of wisdom is a flowing brook.	4 Acque profonde son le parole che pronuncia l'uomo, torrente straripante è la fonte di saggezza.
5 It is not good to be partial to the guilty, and so to reject a rightful claim.	5 Favorire l'empio non è bene, per ostacolare il giusto nel giudizio.
6 The fool's lips lead him into strife, and his mouth provokes a beating.	6 Le labbra dello stolto portano alla lite e la sua bocca gli procura i colpi.
7 The fool's mouth is his ruin; his lips are a snare to his life.	7 La bocca dello stolto è la sua rovina, le sue labbra sono un laccio alla sua vita.
8 The words of a talebearer are like dainty morsels that sink into one's inmost being.	8 Le parole del denigratore sono come bocconi deliziosi, che scendono fino al fondo delle viscere.

12 Before his downfall a man's heart is haughty, but humility goes before honors.	12 Prima della sua rovina s'innalza il cuor dell'uomo, prima della gloria c'è l'umiliazione.
13 He who answers before he hears-- his is the folly and the shame.	13 Chi risponde prima di ascoltare è stoltezza per lui e confusione.
14 A man's spirit sustains him in infirmity-- but a broken spirit who can bear?	14 Lo spirito dell'uomo sostiene la sua fragilità; lo spirito abbattuto chi lo rialzerà?
15 The mind of the intelligent gains knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.	15 Un cuore intelligente acquista conoscenza e l'orecchio dei saggi cerca la scienza.
16 A man's gift clears the way for him, and gains him access to great men.	16 Il dono dell'uomo tutto gli spalanca e alla presenza dei grandi lo conduce.

19 A brother is a better defense than a strong city, and a friend is like the bars of a castle.	19 Un fratello aiutato da un fratello è come una fortezza; gli amici come il catenaccio di un castello.
20 From the fruit of his mouth a man has his fill; with the yield of his lips he sates himself.	20 Col lavoro della bocca si sazia lo stomaco dell'uomo; col frutto delle sue labbra si soddisfa.
21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue; those who make it a friend shall eat its fruit.	21 Morte e vita sono in potere della lingua; chi ne sa fare uso ne assaggerà il frutto.
22 He who finds a wife finds happiness; it is a favor he receives from the LORD.	22 Chi ha trovato una sposa ha trovato un tesoro; ha ottenuto una grazia dal Signore.
23 The poor man implores, but the rich man answers harshly.	23 Il povero parla supplicando, il ricco invece risponde con durezza.
24 Some friends bring ruin on us, but a true friend is more loyal than a brother.	24 Ci sono amici che mandano in rovina ma c'è l'amico più caro di un fratello.
